“Beautiful Hotel & Relaxing Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014 via mobile

A very beautiful Hotel with a great adults only swimming pool "Chill Pool".

Staff are all very kind and helpful, customer service is excellent and the Thai food at the Hotel is very good. The buffet breakfast was better than expected with a great range of Western as well as Eastern food options.

Would highly recommend this hotel to couples or families looking for a relaxing Holiday venue.

Dear Scaifey-S

Thank you for your kind compliments regarding our wonderful service teams and our delicious cuisine.

I must agree that our adults only Chill pool next to the spa is a great way to unwind and enjoy that "get away from it all" experience in total peace and tranquility.

I also really appreciate your recommendation of Hotel de la Paix Cha Am Beach on Tripadvisor.

Warmest wishes,

We escaped a cold wet England for 12 days in Thailand and at the recommendation of my brother-in-law booked 7 nights at the De La Paix, after 3 nights at the Shangri La in Bangkok. Both are five star hotels but they couldn't be more different. The De La Paix is hidden away towards the North of the very Thai resort of Cha Am. The first bonus is that it is an easy two hour drive from the city, and pretty well sign posted once you left the main road.

On arrival, we were struck by the unique hotel reception (see photo) and the extremely friendly staff. I'd booked one of the Garden Rooms, and think we were lucky to have one of the best, facing North in the block nearest reception - generally very quiet - apart from the sounds from the small Thai village just outside the hotel grounds - early morning crowing cockerels add to local colour! And on our last night there was a party in the village, but it was quiet at a reasonable hour.

There are plenty of other comments on the unique style of the hotel - from the polished concrete internal walls, high ceilings and interesting lines (not "lions" as misheard by our four year old nephew also staying at the hotel). Having two pools - one for families with children and a chill pool for adults works very well - and we spent a lot of time at the chill pool - served by the great staff in the Red Bar. It felt as though we were in a David Hockney painting or a photo shoot by David La Chappelle!

Unlike another reviewer - we were lucky with the tide - and were able to take long walks along the beach, North to the small river and fishing village, and south down to Cha Am. Most of the other hotels and apartment buildings nearby cater for the domestic Thai holidaymaker rather than westerners - as does the main town of Cha Am. The De La Paix seemed to have guests from all over the world.

The choice of three restaurants worked well - all served by a central kitchen so we were able to order from the Thai menu when eating up in the Cloud. Although the prices are of course higher than in the small local Thai restaurants they are very reasonable for a 5* hotel - with a good choice of Thai & Western dishes and enough variety of a 7 day stay. The Thai salads made an excellent choice for lunch - and we were delighted with some of the western dishes we chose for dinner. And we only had good experience with the breakfast buffet - a huge fresh selection of food, and great coffee as well as exceptional friendly service.

Although not a specialist "family hotel" , children seemed to be welcome. Although we didn't use them the hotel had a good choice of activities each day.

The massage treatments in the spa were excellent and well priced for a hotel serving westerners, and the facilities were very spacious and quiet, adding to the relaxation.

The free wi fi available all over the hotel worked well - including a fast upload speed! We had a good large TV with selection of English and Thai channels. We had to ask for our Apple TV as it wasn't in the room when we arrived - it had a limited selection of films and couldn't connect to our iPad so we couldn't use our own music and video - which would have been better. Though I've not yet stayed anywhere else that provided this facility.

As a note of caution it looks as though the plot next door is about to be developed - maybe check with the hotel to check on its status before you book.

My wife and I have stayed in some very good hotels over the past 15 years, and the De La Paix certainly ranks up in the top five.

Room Tip: The North facing rooms, on the Northern room blocks are probably quieter and cooler, and more privat...

Dear jda180,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and writing an informative account of your experiences at Hotel de la Paix Cha Am Beach.

I am delighted to read that our great team took very good care of you and that you enjoyed all of our dining options; from the extensive buffet breakfast to the rooftop dining under the stars. Thank you also for highlighting our spa facilities and the excellent, skilled therapists.

A gentle stroll along the beach definitely provides a relaxing and sometimes fascinating insight into local village life. Cha Am has certainly retained its traditional Thai essence, something that is becoming difficult to find elsewhere. The land clearing that you mentioned is also very common in our rural setting at this time of year. It is mainly a precautionary measure that removes any damaged and hazardous trees that may have been affected during the rainy season.

Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts on Tripadvisor. We truly hope you will visit us again should your travels bring you back to Thailand.

Best regards

We first stayed at Hotel De La Paix when it was known as Alila Cha Am. Then, the furnishings and decor took our breath away (industrial chic was just starting to be the new "cool"). 6 years later, although they haven't upgraded the Apple TV (I think it's still the 1st Gen Apple Tv!) and I must agree that the resort is showing signs of wear and tear, the service and experience was still great. I really do hope that the resort management irons out these issues! The resort's Thai food is great!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

I have stayed three times in this lovely hotel. Every time exceptional. It was the Alila hotels and now called de la paix.
We had two rooms booked . I hawked for my room to be changed because my room showed signs of wear and tear which was unacceptable . I was paying a premium price because it was Xmas.
The room needed to be painted . All wood surfaces showed stains form water glasses and varnish of wood was flaking, shower s/steel was stained as were taps and all fittings, marble was water stained, soft furnishings were old and dirty, dirty rug on the floor, housekeeping was not good either . Towels were old, worn and stained . A dirty bin was left in the room. My room was changed to a better room. But still needs refurbishment but was clean. Staff are very nice.
The exterior of all buildings need re painting . The large pool at reception needs cleaning . It is now just for pigeons. In fact pigeons have taken all spaces on windows and windows are dirty everywhere.. The decking at the pool area is very dangerous. The wood decking is ol and broken . We all got wood splinters in our feet . But even worse rusty nails are sticking out everywhere. So dangerous for all and children. Better dining chairs needed as so uncomfortable..
If renovated you could rejuvenate this lovely hotel. But for now I would not return.
My room was also very noisy near the kitchens.

Visited the resort a couple of weeks ago for 3 nights for a short getaway. We were allocated a lovely pool villa by the beach. Everything about the resort exceeded my expectations. The breakfast and restaurant food/cocktails were delicious, the environment was stunning and the service first rate (special mention to the lovely Apple). We strongly recommended the resort to anyone who appreciates tranquility. Hua Hin town is 20 mins ride away and the night market and sea food is really awesome. The resort provides shuttle service at periodic intervals for a cheap fee. Overall, a fantastic resort and memorable stay =)

This review is based on a very short visit one lunchtime, as a walk in guest.

I was on my touring push bike, bashing along the west part of the gulf of Thailand, in the baking noonday sun. Very sweaty, disheveled and perhaps even a bit wild-eyed, I arrived by chance at the entrance, quite unannounced and not part of the expected clientele.

Nevertheless, the staff, from the boys at the entrance to the coffee shop waiters, treated me very nicely and I was made quite at home. Their English skills were certainly above the average for that part of Thailand.

I had a look at the beach, and the two pools, and it all looked very refreshing. But to have taken a dip I think, would have been pushing my luck, and in any case I had another 60 clicks to get to Hua Hin, and to a quite different sort of hotel,(but that is another story).

Chapeau!

2 amazing relaxing pools
u don't have a beach there & cannot walk along the beach
hotel rent bikes ,,,,very uncomfortables mountain bikes who are maybe very good for the mountains but just a simple bike like they rent in Cha Am centrum would be perfect & surely more comfortable for biking along the beach roads
nice that u have yoga every morning: plus point
