“Nice hotel”

Lamai Wanta

Apr 13, 2008

I contacted Lamai Wanta via email and they were very prompt in answering all my emails. We had a standard double room and found it to be comfortable. Aircon, TV, fridge, safe etc all worked well (no phone in the room, though) and the balcony was very nice to sit and relax in the evening. Staff at room service and the reception was friendly and helpful. They have a small collection of DVDs you can borrow if you have a DVD player or laptop. There is free wifi service which was sufficiently fast. The beach in front of the hotel was nice and uncluttered by chaise lounges (they were all around the pool). Hotel restaurant is somewhat pricey but the food and service were great.

The only downside of this hotel is the location. Lamai is full of girlie bars and some other bars with extremely loud music. If you like that sort of thing look no further than Lamai. I come from a recently poor country and cannot bear to see such a blatant exploitation of the poor. If you find the sleaze business as objectionable as I do, you might consider looking at other beaches like Bophut. But I cannot fault the hotel for what’s going on in Lamai. Wanta is on the whole a very nice hotel and I recommend it.

“Great Hotel A Gem”

Lamai Wanta

Apr 5, 2008

I booked this way in advance from the reviews and was definetally not dissapointed,We had 2 fabulous ajoining rooms in the new building 1600Bht great value, the rooms were large with nice duvets TV, Wi Fi,great bathroom with a srong shower. The rooms were cleaned everyday, gardens were beautifully manicured, staff were charming and helpful.Reception were very attentive and the restaurant had great service good food and the perfect setting right overlooking the beach. They served drinks around the pool but you could take your own with no problem. The beach was lovely a few traders selling corn, pop, jewellery, icecream, but not agressive.
There were a few restaurants a long the beach a very nice setting with lapping waves and Tiki Lamps (Adequate Food)
Very close to the main strip of Lamai with its restaurants, massage, bars,& shops there is a evening Food Market which is pretty amazing the food was great, the usual British & Irish pubs
I think there were Girl Bars down some of the back streets but we didn't notice or have any conserns regarding this being obvious and we had young teens with us.In all we loved it here and would highly reccommend.

If we're talking just the hotel and value, this place was very nice. The beach had waves, water was clear, and the hotel was very pretty with very friendly staff. The price was great, the rooms were minimal, yet had enough, who stays in their room that much? Our room smelled terribly of smoke which was upsetting, but we were only there one night and didn't make a fuss. There were some very loud bangs outside our bathroom all night, again, didn't care to find out what was going on. The pool was nice, smaller that it looks.

Now, as for the area, I would never ever go back here. The little town area was so touristy and trashy (girls all over, if you get my drift). We also went to Koh Tao for 2 nights and if you're looking for a nice island with great water and peace, this is the place to go, holy cow. We went back to Koh Samui for one night and stayed at BoPhut beach and loved it too. Water wasn't too clear but it was a great area, massages on the beach, little shops, nice little town area.

Hope that helps, I just don't recommend this area to anyone unless all you want is to really party, then why would you go to Koh Samui, go to Phuket.

Really loved the Lamai Wanta and cannot praise it too highly. The rooms were clean and although minimal had everything we wanted. We travelled around Thailand for a month and this was the best place we stayed and probably the cheapest.. The restaurant is more expensive than those on the main street but it was really quality food and worth every penny and it was so pleasant sitting next to the beach.
We had booked well in advance but wanted to stay an extra night . However it wasn't possible for us to keep the same room but they did have another room available although it wasn't going to be ready until 6pm. As we were on a full day trip that day it didn't really matter so we just left our cases in reception in the morning and when we returned from the trip the room was ready. Imagine our surprise when they only charged us half the daily rate for the room as we hadn't had it all day.
Will definitely stay there again if I go back to Thailand.

1st let me say after reading a report by "mcknmattinkorea" I was really worried and thinking of canceling .I booked this hotel back in September to be told that they were full but could give us a Family Room 2 room one bathroom I reserved it because it was reviewed as a hidden paradise.
Well let me put all of your minds to rest IT IS----while looking for something else I researched for 2 weeks and everything was so much more expensive Lamai Wanta is 1600Bht per room or 2200Bht for a family room everything else was over 5000Bht and up.
So we decided to come here YES I am here now have been for 3days.(We even got our 2 adjoining rooms in the new part) Our rooms are large with fantastic bedding white duvets ,everything is simple elegant chic ,wireless internet and fantastic showers stronger than at home. How anyone could complain about about this exquisite hotel I am really amazed-----this can be held up there with any 5* if you don't need Room Consiege &,Valet Service,
It is everything perfect,Reception is lovely and very helpful the Restaurant is so delightful right on the beach with cool elegant designs and great food and service,Pool is very pretty not big which makes it all the more attractive we have have no problem arriving @ 11ish to find comfy loungers with umbrella's.Beach is so nice pale golden sand literally next to the pool with reasonably clear sea.Laundry can be found everywhere for 35Bht a Kg the hotel charge by the piece an exorbitant amount of 15Bht for Shirts & the same for Shorts ,all beautifully laundered and pressed for 30Bht=$1
Lamai town is steps away with a European coffee shop Tom's on the way.
This place is safe NO girlie bars or touts on the main street (maybe if you go into the back alleys???)
My 2 boys age 15/16yrs are very comfortable walking around with absolutely no harassment ,everyone is extremely friendly the tailors are a little too friendly but thats all
We are still here for another 6 days I would recommend this to EVERYONE its fantastic
