“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Just got back from our 4th stay at Briza with the family and loved every minute of it. The Hotel surprised us with a scrumptious chocolate cake when we checked in. It seemed like the entire front office and F&B staff came to welcome us back.

Our pool access rooms were all ready for us and the house-keeping staff took the time to fold the towels into elephants, swans and dogs. Needless to say, we were very reluctant to destroy their creations after showers.

The staff at the front office, housekeeping and restaurant were as always top notch making sure that every need was catered to.

This hotel is fantastic for children as you didn't have to drag all you swimming things to the pool as it was literally 3 steps from your room. The only time we dragged our swimming bags were when we went to the beach which was so nice and clean.

The breakfast buffet was nice and delicious. The freshly baked croissants and bread were simply yummy and scrumptious.

There are many shops and resturants within walking distance from the Hotel. For a better variety you can catch the tuk tuks which were plentiful to the nearby town of Khuek Khak.

All in all, we love Briza and look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Get the Deluxe Pool Access rooms.

The Briza what can I say we stayed in the beachfront room No 862 with beautiful views to the ocean and if you love the sound of the crashing waves you have the right room.
Balcony with lounger to relax on and a beautiful bathroom looking out also, simple amenities + Wi fi.
Khao Lak is away from the hussle with a source able amount of shops a short tuktuk ride away at Khao lak town, nice to relax maybe go elephant riding just a walk down the road. lovely buffet breaky and Noi the woman doing the massaging on the beach literally is a dream.
All the staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming and help you to embrace the thai culture.

We stayed here for 7 nights the rooms are a large enough with a small bar area and large bathroom with bath etc. The bed now what can I say I wasn't quiet sure whether it was a bed or whether they had just put some sheets on a slab of concrete as it was so hard we had to crawl out of it as out backs where hurting so much even resorted to putting sunbed mats on it at one point. We stayed on the beach side of the property just by the pool which was perfect as all we planned to do was to lounge. The only thing of note really was that there was a bit of a wierd smell which we just couldn't place. The whole development looked a bit tired but it didn't detract from the stay. As we had gone during the closed season we did find that the hotel entertained conferences which took over the whole of the resturant at lunch times etc but they did make for some entertaining people watching.

This is our second time to Khao Lak. As it is situated quite far from phuket aiport, it was convenient to rent a car. Get the map & GPS..it would be cheeper to book online. The hotel was easy to be located. Our check in was smooth and the staff was very helpful. The room was indeed very clean. We stayed at pool access room and it was really nice to have our own balcony. Swimming pool was well maintained. Buffet breakfast was good with reasonable food spread. Generally the stay was worth the paid price..actually better than we had expected

There's convenient store, food courts and tailors at the area. I even get a suit at Shiva's Tailor..the price was not really cheap. But the tailor managed to make it done within 2 days and the work was commendable.

Very nice beach ( one of the best hotel beach I've seen ), clean nice rooms. At the new side the poolrooms very good ( jus think of after long hot day you come to room, take a quick shower and go straight to pool from your balcony :-). Service was friendly.
Only the hotel's neighbourhood wasn't so good, it was a abit messy and there ewre some strange odours.

Hastily organised to celebrate my husband's birthday, I must admit that the choice of the Briza Beach Resort at Khao Lak was based on a) escaping the cold of Sydney, b) the incredibly cheap deals available and c) good reviews of the Briza on websites including Trip Advisor.
We pre-booked an air-con car to transfer us from Phuket Airport for the one hour-plus drive, which turned out to be a great thing. We used PhuketShuttle.com and pre-paid online. It cost about AUD$106 return, which was way cheaper than booking through the hotel. In the hustle bustle of Phuket airport, it was nice to see our name on a placard and a smiling driver ready to whisk us away. (The return trip was hairier - the driver seemed in a big hurry and sped alarmingly through the driving rain and didn't understand English).
We arrived in the evening and were greeted by smiling reception staff and a cold drink.
The deal we got through Expedia was 7 nights for AUD$347.46, which included breakfast, a deluxe room with pool view upgrade and a Thai set dinner for two.
The room was clean and comfortable and was overlooking the pool (not on the beach side). There were few guests, so it was very quiet, however there were the odd instances of guests (usually on tour buses and just overnighting) splashing and shouting in the pool at 6am, quite unfazed by our polite objections. I would imagine in the high season, a room on the pool would be a disadvantage unless you are up with the kids anyway!
My husband went to try the gym and was disappointed by the limited equipment and the fact that many of the machines needed some repair or maintenance.
Breakfasts were a worthy inclusion in the price. A good variety including Asian dishes, tropical fruits, the usual bacon / eggs fare and a chef ready to cook your omelette to order meant that we didn't have to rush out of the hotel to find sustenance.
The weather was fine and very warm for the first 41/2 days of our stay and then the monsoonal weather set it. This didn't bother us, as it was still warm enough to swim in the pool and as an umbrella was provided, get around the local area.
We hired a car one day (1200 Baht) and also booked a highly enjoyable elephant trek / swim. Both were booked through Eve at Khao Lak Happiness tours. Her office is opposite the Briza - she was a delightful young lady and personally drove us the 35km to the elephant camp.
The hotel's bar was not open during our stay (although you could gets drinks with dinner), no doubt due to so few residents at this time of year. There are a couple of small bars in the area (or you can have a drink in one of the bigger hotels such as the Merlin) if you feel like it.
We found 'Peter Bar' (about 200m up the beach from the Briza) and immediately felt at home with its staff. It's tiny, with about 12 stools around the open sided round bar, but there's a great atmosphere. Couples we met at the resort (from Holland and France) also came to make it their hang, and our last night there was a party! They have also just opened an adjacent kitchen, where you can watch your fresh seafood being cooked. Thoroughly recommended and typically cheap food and drinks.
Back to the hotel - two bottles of water were complimentary per day (I have read that some hotels charge you for it) and we also bought cheap water for a nearby store. The bar fridge was adequately stocked and the drinks were still cheap. The free wi-fi was also a boon. There was pre-high season painting to rooms around the main (beach side) section of the hotel, however this did not intrude on our activities.
On checkout I was wondering whether we would be hit for tax or additional charges, but no, just for the two beers we took from the bar fridge.
I would highly recommend the Briza, especially for the amazingly low price. It is well located on a quiet stretch of beach but only a cheap taxi ride to more bustling areas and sight seeing.
We did take a day trip to Patong but turned straight around without getting out of the car - it was like the Gold Coast on 'roids.
Khao Lak is clean (from the streets through to the toilets everywhere we went) and the locals very friendly and non-harassing. Perhaps it's a bit different in the high season, but I can only say that me and my husband had a wonderful (if not too short) stay and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Around the pools in the newer section would be very noisy in high season, as the rooms literally abu...

Briza Beach Resort Khao Lak is a perfect place to stay if you wish to relax. I went during the low season (July 20 - 27, 2013) and it was great. The low season is the rain season but it only rained for short period of time during each day, mostly at night so that wasn't a problem. Four of seven days were sunny and warm. We got a pool access room which was very nice for $43 USD per night through Hotel.com, the room also includes breakfast. Everything about the property was very nice from the staff to the grounds itself. The beach is also stunning as there are not a lot of people on the beach so you feel very private. During our stay there were only a dozen other people there so that was nice, though there were occasional tour groups that stayed for a night then moved along to Phuket.

I highly recommend this place if you wish to visit the beaches of Thailand but don't want to be mixed into the tourist or party crowd you would normally see in Phuket, Krabi, and Kho Samui. The nearby towns are also nice and small but have everything you would need. Getting around may be an issue and would require a taxi which would run about $3 usd per trip. Khao Lak town is about 4 km away and Tam Lamu is about 2 km away. I rented a motorbike for myself which costed $200 Thai Baht per day which wasn't bad, so transportation wasn't a problem.

Nearby the resort within walking distance (75 meters) are small restaurants, small bars and shops you could also walk to meet other visitors.

To get to Briza, there are some options: 1) plane, a round trip from BKK/DMG to Phuket is about $166 USD, then you'll have to hire a taxi to bring you and hour north which would cost around $35... 2) V.I.P. bus from BKK bus station Sai Tai, which takes 12 hours and leaves everyday at 730 pm. The fee is $33 but is worth it if you're on a budget. The bus will drop you off in Khao Lak town and from there you could take a taxi to Briza. To get back to BKK, you could fly or take the bus leaving from Khao Lak;Bang Neang station located in the market. VIP Bus leaves there everyday at 530pm.

Overall, if you want to stay in a quiet beautiful place without all the nuance of partiers or noise, this is the area to be in. Khao Lak, Phung nga, Thailand

Also, there's internet.

Room Tip: Ask for pool access room. There are couple types, one with above pool level, and one with below poo...
