“excellent resort, the beach area not so grand”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

The resort is excellent. Rooms, service, ambiance, lounge chairs, breakfast buffet all excell. Friendly and helpful staff. The only reason I didn't rate it as 'excellent', is it's beach location.
Khao Lak has endless kilometers of clean, beautiful beaches. One can walk for hours on them. EXCEPT for the beaches right in front, and beside this resort. For about 200 meters on either side of the Sudala, several resorts have extended their land to the water's edge and created 3 meter high walls. Unless the tide is completely out, the only way to walk along the beach is to
a. get very wet as the waves try to smash you against the walls
b. walk to the road, then along the road till you get to the end of these walls

We stayed three nights at the Sudala then moved 1 km north to one of the resorts where one can walk along the beautiful beaches without interruption.

Again, the resort is excellent, but if you are wanting to spend days strolling along the beach with ease, perhaps consider moving to a resort starting 300 meters north of the Sudala.

We just spent 8 days at this resort. We were in a grand deluxe villa which was nice and spacious, Bathroom ok, except for problems with flushing. Room was pretty hot at night - airconditioning was too noisy to be switched on.....! Nice little veranda with rocking chairs and a small table just a few steps from one of the two swimmingpools which were both nice and well kept. We only used the pool a couple of times though, as we preferred the hotel's wonderful private beach which was just across a small road - as was the hotel restaurant. The restaurant offered a great breakfast buffet, but for dinner we didn't find it up-to-standard. What made this hotel special was without a doubt the staff which was amazing - even for Thailand!
The hotel is directly on Bang Niang beach which is nice and quiet but still offers a good choice of shops and restaurants. If you prefer a livelier area, you might want to opt for Nang Thong Beach, which is a five-minute drive south of Bang Niang.
For us, Sudala Beach Resort was a good choice and we would be happy to return in the future.

Room Tip: We were in villa 1109 which was close to the pool, but not close enough to be bothered by noise. Als...

We have been walking outside this hotel several times, and this year we spend 3 nights. The villas are spaciuos but the balcony not so comfortable, small and the chairs uncomfortable. Everything works ok, and the breakfast has what you need.

Sudala was really well situated in Khao Lak. Very nice beach and walking distance to restaurants. The bungalow was roomy even with 2 extra beds. We can really recommend it to anyone that likes a small hotel and doesn't require luxuries. Over all well kept and clean. We stayed in bungalow 1111 and liked it really a lot.

Room Tip: Bungalow looked like a good choise.

This is really lovely hotel in serene place just near the beach. Rooms are not luxury but very clean and good equipped: tv, towels, tea & coffee, water boiler, etc. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
NB: you can find free internet only in reception area! -> connect to "Sudala" wi-fi.
Food in restaurant is excellent! Breakfast is versatile and delicious, with a lot of fresh fruits. They have happy hour in bar & restaurant 16 - 18: take 2 drinks and pay for 1. NB: it should be similar drinks and one you get for free. You can ask restaurant staff charge all on your room number and pay later in reception by your credit card. For 20€ (800 THB) our family (4 peoples) has fantastic dinner with exotic beverages and very tasty food.
One romantic and peaceful restaurant with beautiful sea view is ChongFah. Service is friendly, prices are a little cheaper and food is testy. It located on the beach, in the end of main street. From Sudala continue just straight and turn right when encounter the wall.
Beach is clean, but small, with yellow sand. Water is also clean, but not clear, like in all Khao Lak. If you want snorkelling, you should take some trip to the islands. NB: in my opinion, go to Surin! Fantastic place with clear water, scenic, with small amount of tourists. Tachai island is also beautiful, but extremely a lot of peoples there, and on Similan is more peoples than on Tachai! :(
Chong Fah waterfall is amazing!! Located in 7-10 km from Sudala, in jungles, and it have 4 levels with pools, where you can swim in fresh water. Go there and I promise you'll not regret!! :) Good advise: if you come in the morning, there is no one people! And when you are hungry, ask taxi driver for stop in small restaurant just in opposite side of minigolf. Food is testy and very very cheap.
Also markets in Khao Lak are very nice. Food there is cheap and safe. Approved! :)
If you want some suit or dress, in nearest area are many tailors. I can recommend you "BOSS, Hugo Boss" - tailor, just in 100 m from Mukdara hotel. Quality is really very good, and delivery time is couple days. Owner of this boutique said that "we make a copy, but good copy", and he was right! :)
So in summa sumarum it was excellent decision to come in Khao Lak for our holiday! If you have some questions, pls don't hesitate contact me. :)

Room Tip: I think bungalow will be the best selection.

Very bad service, the worst i have experienced at such an expensive hotel anywhere.
People that work here DONT understand english. But they say OK to everything and it's not OK because you can't get anything you want done the write way. Evidence:
-ordered newspaper for the next day. Of course I didn't get it cause they claimed the information leaflet which I filled in mystically blew away. But they could get it the day after - in the evening - maybe!
-ordered wake up call. when the guy wrote down my room number I corrected his because he got it wrong. so i made sure they had the correct information (he couldn't do it himself)! did i get a wake-up call? No, cause they called the wrong room. No comments..
-rather than acknowledging you when you go to the bar (because they wont come to your table, even though there are 5 people doing nothing just standing around). They notice you, but don't acknowledge you and continue standing around chatting. Because there is only 1 guy that works and 5 that stand around in uniforms. Interesting approach

At least the rooms were nice and clean, but that doesn't make this awful service ok.

This hotel exceeded my expectations for the price paid. I booked with Agoda at a discounted rate, which Agoda appear to offer occasionally. The hotel is mostly occupied by European tourists on package holidays.

I had a standard room. The rooms are big and if you have a top floor room you get a seaview, although this is partly obscured by trees. The bathroom has a window that looks into the room, which also means that you can take a shower and enjoy the seaview at the same time, this was a lovely experience! There is also a privacy curtain if needed. The hotel has 2 lovely swimming pools, which were never busy, I was often the only person using them. The only drawback is that to get a drink whilst relaxing by the pool you have to go to the beach because there is no bar near the pools or in the main hotel building. The beach is across a small, minor road. The hotel rooms and pools are on 1 side of the road and the beach, the restaurant and bar are on the other side of the road. The beach is sandy and stretches for miles and if you walk to the right, after about 500 metres, the hotels end and the beach becomes very quiet, this made for some fabulous beach walks!

The restaurant is right by the beach so has lovely views and in the evenings you can hear the waves crashing. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. We only used the restaurant once in the evening and didn't return because we found much better food nearby. There are plenty of places to eat within a very short walk.

About 15 minutes walk away is a big tourist market, that takes place 3 days per week, good for buying gifts.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have sea view. Ground floor rooms have easy access to pool areas.
