We just spent a week at the Haadson, and very much enjoyed it! The resort is set in a lovely garden setting. We stayed in a Lakeside Villa. The bungalows are simply & elegantly decorated, and comfortable. We liked the little balcony/terrace overlooking the lagoon; a very peaceful place to sit. The bathrooms are very large, the shower good (really hot water & good waterpressure). Maybe the one thing I missed in the rooms is a set of drawers, for extra storage, but we were travelling with a baby and had a lot of stuff.
The staff is perhaps the most friendly I have ever encountered at a resort or hotel, and in a very sincere way. They were so lovely with our baby! The manager even gave us a laminated picture of our son the last evening. The (Thai) owners are very kind as well and really care about their resort and guests.
The ocean is just across the (narrow) street. There is not much traffic there at all, the surroundings are very quiet. Most of the time all we heard were birds and waves. The beach is mostly deserted. It's perhaps not the ideal beach with very small children, because you can't really sit and play in the surf, because of the shells, but you can sit in the sand higher up. There are hotel sunbeds on the beach. The pool area is also nice (like you can see on the website).
The restaurant and bar are good. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there most nights and all the food was good. Their seafood-selection good be larger (there was white snapper most nights), but there weren't many guests, so I guess that could be a reason. There are also a few local restaurants next door and one larger outdoor restaurant a 5/10 minute walk away that was nice (fresh seafood and (partly) on the beach). There is nothing else at all within walking distance, so if you're looking for a night-life, maybe this is not the place for you.
The spa is actually quite luxurious and they have an extensive spa-menu, with massages, facials, body scrubs, etc..
Khao Lak itself is a 15 minute drive away. There is a free shuttle every day, that leaves at 2 and comes back at 4.30. Otherwise it's 400THB into town. You can easily take a taxi back.
For the divers: I went on 2 great dive-trips (Similans and Richelieu Rock) with Deep Blue. They pick you up at the hotel, and they leave from a pier nearby, so it's actually quite convenient.
All in all, a very relaxed experienced and just what we needed to end our holiday. We would love to go back some day!
