“Lovely and relaxing holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2009

My husband and I had a really nice experience in this hotel as it really met our criteria. We had looked for a small family runned hotel as often more pleasant, simple (to get away from the crowd such as the one we find in Phuket) but romantic place to stay at, and read many reviews on trip adviser before chosing this hotel, and the choice revealed itself to be the right one.

We got married six moths ago and spent our honeymoon in Fiji. Although the pacific ocean is wonderful, no doubt about it, everything is incredibly expensive there and the hotel team we stayed at was always trying to push guests to spend as much money as possible. Haadson resort is completely different : the team is always trying to please and advise you as much as possible without being pushy. In fact you go there to relax, enjoy reading a good book on the beach or by the beautiful pool where you can order a fruit cocktail or else whenever you feel like it, or to walki on the long white sandy beach and to experience a few getaways such as the James Bond island or some islands where you can do snorkeling. Whichever hotel you stay close to Khao Lak offers you the same deal anyway. At least close to Haadson resort, apart from the fact that it is on a public beach (busy on the weekends but not at all during the week) and far enough (a few meters from the beach) to be on the safe side in case of another tsunami, but just as normal as it would be in our countries, it's not full of people. indeed, it is quite far away from the other hotels which mean you have space for yourself.

When we experienced the James Bond island, we really enjoyed the fact that everything was planned only for the two of us and it really felt special. We had our own taxi, boat, guide, table in the restaurant for ourselves. We were even able to swim just the two of us in between the rocky islands. What a romantic holiday, isn't it ?

The last thing I would like to mention is the incredible evening we experienced on December 31st, 2008. The choice of food we were given in the buffet was incredible and the show and dances organised with the local school funded by the king after the tsunami on that night was simply wondeful. Moreover, the amazing and most memorial moment we experienced on that night is when the guests of the hotel were given those balloons to light up in the air. There were hundreds of them in the sky.

Surely we will remember this holiday ! Thank you so much for all of this you have given to us Haasdon resort team !

Haadson is a great place to relax in high quality resort.
Although the price is a bit high (highest we had during our 3 weeks+ journey around the islands) it was worth all Bahts used.
We enjoyded 7 nights having great service and very friendly staff.
Also joined 2 night trip to Surin booked by the resort.
Surroundings is peacefull, with great beach and only a few tourists as the next resort is a few kilometers away.
This resort/neighbourhood is not for party animals.... no night life available except a good sleep in luxorious bungalows.

Will come again for sure.

Stayed here for 6 days over New Years.

The Haadson was truly one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in, the design of the hotel was really beautiful fitting in perfectly with its environment.

Our lakeside villa was lovely - big room, great terrace, nice bathroom. The hotel was very quiet and it felt like we were staying in a villa in the middle of a our own little jungle. The quality of the food was very good and yet the prices in the restaurant were also very reasonable. The beach was lovely, with really warm water and great waves.

Many of the staff didn't speak very good English but they were so nice that you couldn't get annoyed about it and they could always send over someone who did understand what you were saying.

Our only two small issues with the room were
1) It was very hot and we had to have the fan on all night whereas when we stayed in a different hotel the following week (when the weather was actually hotter) we never needed the air conditioning. It wasn't a big deal though.
2) The water pressure in the shower wasn't great and the temperature would fluctuate from hot to cold.

We booked the Haadson because we really wanted to rest somewhere as quiet as possible. The Haadson met these expectations fully and we would have no hesitation about staying again. Like the previous reviewer we could hear the very loud noise blasting from cars by the beach on New Years day but this only happened on one day of our stay and it ended early enough that night.

While this hotel definitely gets 5 stars from us, we have a few suggestions that would make it even better -

1) It would be great if they scrapped the compulsory New Years dinner. While the buffet was very good and we were glad that the layout involved each couple having their own table rather than the awful 10 strangers to a table that you often get at these things, it is still annoying to have to go to a compulsory dinner and 4000 THB each would have fed us for a week. I know that a lot of hotels do this though.
2) On each day of our stay, most of the sunbeds by the beach were full, while there would often be no guests by the pool or in the restaurant. There would always be a member of staff at the pool and 3 or 4 standing around in the restaurant. Yet a member of staff only ever seemed to walk across the road to the beach once a day for drinks/food orders. It would be a good idea to have a member of staff visit the beach at least once an hour for drinks/ice cream/food orders. The hotel would make more money and we wouldn't have to move from our nice comfortable sun beds! Again, not a big deal, the restaurant was only 20 feet from the beach (I'm just very lazy!) and staff would carry over food ordered there but it would be nice to have service on the beach.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Haadson for 5 days in January and overall had a lovely time. The beach was beautiful, quite undeveloped and there were few other tourists, just what we were looking for.

Highs
- staff were attentive and friendly. Great service.
- setting is beautiful, relaxed, stylish. hotel has well maintained grounds.
- our room was quite nice
- the beach....ahhhhh....the deserted beach

Lows
- the restaurant was disappointing. Our hot breakfasts were cold and dinner was really average. Instead, check out Kontongsu (sp?) seafood shack down the road - much cheaper and delicious! The restaurant's food is probably the one thing holding me back from a 5/5 rating.
- the charge for internet/wireless usage. Every other place we stayed in Thailand had free internet or wireless - it seems penny pinching to charge at a place like this. Also, we had to purchase a prepaid card, and then unfortunately the internet broke so we weren't able to use up our credit.

Take note...
- the resort is about 15 min from Khao Lak by car. If you don't have transportation of your own, they do offer a free shuttle once a day to town. For some people that could be a problem if you want variety in your meals or want to get to town at other times. A taxi one way to Khao Lak is 400 baht. For us, this wasn't a problem because we wanted to be remote and did some daytrips that kept us busy.
- in response to a few other posts, the staff's English was fine. How's your Thai?

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back again. Thanks Haadson!
