“Truely amazing and would visit again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

The Manathai Khao Lak is truely amazing. Advertised as 5 star and it really is, I really couldnt fault this hotel. The staff are great and the food is fantastic. The beach is the best beach in Khao Lak and the views from the pool are outstanding. The only thing I will say which is no fault of the hotel is that my husband was stung by a jelly fish and over the next few days a few other peopl had been stung but the hotel pool staff acted swiftly and appropriatley. The jelly fish werent deadly it gave a rash and quickly dissapeared. The town is about a 10 min taxi ride but you are never short of a taxi from the town and the hotel offer a shuttle which is not free and is the same price as a taci from the town so you are not being overcharged. The Executive Chef is great as he will cook your food to order and they are willing to accomodate all tastes.
I would definately come back to this hotel over and over again.

We drove to the hotel from Phuket, the car park is big and we never had any problem finding a parking lot during our stay. We arrived at the lobby and we had to wait awhile before a front desk staff checked us in as it seemed to be a busy time in the evening when some guests arranging their trip to Khao Lak centre for dinner. The check-in process was quick, the welcome drink, Rosella Tea, served in a quite small glass bottle, it was a bit too sweet for my taste but i do like how it's presented. the room we had is the Deluxe Room on the ground floor, the room is big with a very good sized balcony. The only thing about room that irritated me then was the privacy, because the building is next to the walkway to the main swimming pool and the beach, there were often someone walk pass the room, we could not leave the curtain open. We love the beach, we really enjoy a swimming in that big swimming pool. I really enjoy the time watching the sunset from the pool and sadly the pool is close at 6pm, the towel is not provideds after their closure time. The breakfast was ok and the check out was very quick. Over all experience, we both did have a good time staying there.

Everything about this hotel is first class from the moment we checked in. Hotel food was more expensive than local restaurants, however they had the flavours and taste to back it up.

This is definitely more of a destination hotel, which we enjoyed, however some local services, such as diving and simply checking out the town required a 300/350 baht (one-way) taxi. They should offer a complementary shuttle service like some of the other hotels in the area.

After reading the reviews of this place we decided to book 3 nights at Manathai. We arrived very early in the morning coming by bus from HuaHin and avsked for an early check-in which was no problem (this is low-season and the resort was probably only a quarter full).

The price for breakfast on arrival day was ofcourse not included so we paid for the most expensive breakfast we've ever eaten in Thailand (800 baht per person)

Manathai is a brand new resort and therefore everything is in tiptop shape, from the rooms to the pool to the garden and everything in between.

The service was very good and genuine, everyone (including the gardner and falang head chef ) makes a great effort to make you feel welcome.

The food at the poolside restaurant Pad Thai was excellent but expensive by Thai standards. I highly recommend walking 500m along the beach to the left (facing the ocean) there you will find multiple beach-shack restaurants with great food at normal thai prices. I especially recommend the restaurant "Delicious" , try the rock lobster for 350 baht with including fire juggling show. Make sure you remember to bring the provided flashlights from the hotelroom, you will need them coming back to the hotel.. ricketty bridge and hundreds of crabs awaits.

Even a small small mishap with the bill when we were checking out (late check-out no problem) won't bring down our score for this resort.

We had a great time at Manathai in a spacious and beautiful room with garden view. Staff is very kind and efficient, breakfast is great and with a lot of variety (thai, occidental...). The pool is amazing with a seaview secluded among palm trees. Although the hotel restaurant prices are not that exaggerated, you can view better deals and very good thai food on the beach walking left from the hotel less than 1 km. A special compliment to Mama greaaaaat food very quick home-like and yummy. Massage on the right is also super and girls so nice (Sairung massage). M Lek who is Mama's husband also organizes trips and taxi transfers at very good prices. All in all a great step of our honeymoon trip thk u so much to all!

Manathai is a hike out of Bang La On & Bang Niang areas but that is a good thing. The beach around the property is ridiculously quiet, we walked each morning and past about 6 people total in our total 10 night stay.

The beach/pool area is fantastic. Great pool, so big, and in the 10 nights we were there it was nowhere near full so you could lounge on any chair you wanted. Staff at the bar are friendly as well as the pool/recreation team. They could do a lap each 30mins taking drink/food orders from the pool/beach side to improve it a little. Beach is swept clean each morning and in the actual water itself there is nothing but sand and water - no seaweed, rocks etc and very calm.

Breakfast is fine, really good food. Staff are attentive & always there to help. More variety seems to pop up a fair bit in reviews but I'm not sure what else is needed. All the western foods are there (eggs cooked to your liking, bacon, potatoes, tomatoes, sausages etc), cereal, toast, fruits, cakes, sweets, noodles (made to your liking and flavours), salads - lots of salads, soups, yogurts & 3 different varieties of juices each day plus water, tea (a number of varieties), coffee etc.

Colours restaurant seemed to always be completely empty. Its the same restaurant as the breakfast but for lunch & dinner the most we saw in there were about 3 out of 25 tables full. It doesn't leave for the best atmosphere but the food is amazing. Snapper with plum sauce gets a special mention! Pad Thai, which is the other restaurant around the pool area, we didn't try as the menu seemed very limited to only certain Thai dishes. Chang/Singha beers around the pool area during the day were 150 THB or 4 for a bucket for 450 THB (you can get them in mini marts for 35 THB each all around the Khao Lak area so a bit of a rip off).

Hire a scooter if you stay there. We hired one from Sunny, the tour manager at the resort as it was easier. He was such a nice man and charged us 250 THB per day. It can be cheaper in Bang Niang but not worth the hassle for us to get in there and find one. If you don't hire a scooter you'll be at the mercy of a shuttle that runs very rarely at the resort, or taxies. The roads seem busy at first but once you figure it out (and it doesn't take long) the traffic really moves in an orderly way. Having a scooter really opens up so many areas around the Khao Lak region. Happy Beach to the north with Con and his pigs is 5 min ride away, or Takuapa's Little Amazon is only 25mins north, Pak Weep's restaurants are 5mins south, or you can zip into Bang Niang/Bang La On in 15mins whenever you want. Waterfalls basically at every turn to explore in the mountains.

The staff at the hotel were A+. Always smiling and never resting to help their guests. One of the best things about the place.

As for the things that could be improved on over time, and opportunities that were missed when designing the place. The pool - it had a number of times where it spat out dirty brown mud/water (we hope thats all it was) and meant that around those vents the mud stayed for the following days not to be cleaned. The prices of drinks are ridiculously high, and with a short walk over to Pak Weep beach (or ride into town) you can stock up the mini bar at about a 5th of the price. The restaurants need to do more to entice people to eat there, as the food is great but the atmosphere lacks (apparently there was lunch specials?? but we never saw mention of them). The whole corridor in the middle of the resort from Colours right down to the beach seems like a waste and would have been ideal for a pool. You sit on your balcony and can only look across at others sitting on theres. There are only about 4 searoom bungalows that can see the ocean from there rooms out of about 200 rooms, it seems like a waste.

All in all though, it was a great spot. We wouldn't stay there again due to personal preference (we'd stay in Pak Weep beach area) but in saying that walk away from the place very happy.

Room Tip: Pay top dollar for the 4-5 rooms with plunge pools.. they are the only rooms in the resort with a vi...

The hotel is located in a quiet area far from Khao Lak town. The beach is nice and private. If you're looking for a place to relax, this is good for you. The breakfast is quite boring though. The choices are very limited, and on the top of that they never change the food.
Tips
1. Rent a car or a motorbike (You can rent a car from Phuket airport as the transfer is extremely expensive)
2. Try eat outside of the hotel (The food in the hotel is pricy)
3. Do not come alone! (Only if you really want to be alone)
