This is our last night at Khaolak Laguna Resort and we have all had a great time! The staff are very friendly and attentive, nothing has been too much trouble. Our rooms are well maintained and very clean, a hot power shower that actually gets the shampoo out of your hair and even a beach bag to carry all your stuff to the beach/pool was provided. A nice touch.
The food here is excellent and the piano bar in the evening for a cocktail or two has been great after a hard day doing nothing!
We booked an excursion through the hotel to go river rafting and an elephant trek through the jungle. The English speaking guide was entertaining and you get picked up in a small mini bus with a few others on the way.
The river was quite fast moving after a heavy downpour and you definitely get a wet lower half whether you want to or not but that's part of it. Beware if taking your phone or camera, they will get a dunking if you go in off the back of the raft as I nearly did. It's not too deep but it would ruin your kit. There are signs warning you before you go that they're not taking responsibility if it happens. Fair enough.
The elephant trek was fantastic, such an experience, the kids loved it as much as we did. The elephants were well looked after, not that I'm an elephant expert, but they all looked well fed with no signs of damage around their ankles from being chained up and seemed very pleased to be hand fed lots and lots of bananas at the end of the walk.
There's a lot of wildlife around the hotel. We found a large water monitor lizard fishing on the beach. He was fascinating. We saw frogs and little lizards, lots of fish in the stream running through the resort, sea eagles and a big grey sea bird that looked a bit like a stork and lots of little crabs scuttling about.
We would definitely stay here again, a beautiful place and a lovely hotel, we definitely recommend it and we are quite fussy with what we do and don't like :)
There's a well fed hotel dog, he's very busy and doesn't stay around long. There's also a nice cat who's quite elusive, the kids worried that he was a bit skinny..,compared to their cats he is, but someone feeds him, he's not too skinny and he's got nice white fur!
