“Wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

The Khaolak Laguna Resort is a beautiful hotel set in lovely gardens. This is a near perfect place for a couple or family to come and relax in luxurious surrounding.

The hotel is best suited to couple and families as the place is very quiet. The hotel has a fantastic pool that looks out onto the beach, and this is the main 'activity', chilling. There is also a great spa to indulge in massages, and a well kitted out gym for the keen.

One aspect of the hotel wasn't perfect, and this was the service round the pool. It is great to have a beer or cocktail while relaxing round the pool but the service to get a drink was poor. The hotel was quiet and there were lots of staff but the organisation was poor. Hotel management please sort this, this is letting your hotel down. We were only told on our last day that there was a happy hour for example...
Please also open the bar by the beach later into the evening. Having a drink while watching the sun set over the sea is great, but shutting the bar a hour before the sun sets is madness and very frustrating.

One aspect of the hotel that was excellent was breakfast. The staff were very welcoming and the chef Dom was great. He introduced himself and asked our names on day 1 and greeted us by name everyday after that and always made sure we had what we needed, excellent service.

We visited in the quiet period so the hotel only had about 100 guests, which made the hotel seem quite empty feeling, but not in a bad way. In peak periods the hotel has to around 300 guests which could make the place quite busy.

We stayed in a Similan Pearl Villa (beach front villa) which was fantastic and is certainly recommended.

The hotel is an hour north of Phuket airport in the Khao Lak area which is nice and there is quite a bit to do when you want a chance from hanging by the pool. There are lots of great restaurants that are very reasonably price wise and great quality. There are also other beaches and markets to visit etc. Hiring a moped/motorbike is a great way to get around.

Room Tip: The Similan Pearl Villas are recommended. We found an amazing rate for these via a Thai travel agen...

The Khao Lak Laguna Resort was very impressive, with beautiful landscaped grounds, pools and amazing rooms. The food was of an excellent standard and the staff could not do enough to help you. It is right on in front of a beautiful beach, although the sea could be rough at times and may not be suitable for weak swimmers. It is a mere 10 minute walk to the town centre, which has a number of great restaurants including an excellent Italian at the far end of the centre. From here you can on a series of day trips to the Khao Lak National Park, which for me was one of the highlights of my trip to Thailand. The park has stunning jungle scenery, beautiful caves and very impressive mountain ranges and is an an absolute must if you are going to this part of Thailand.

I was lucky to find this through Trip Advisor, and as always reviewed eveything before going, this got the highest ratings and I was not disppointed. It is in a great location, walking distance to shops and restaurants, massages etc.
I found this hotel compared to other hotels to have the cheapest of prices of food and especially the beer, it was almost the same price as 7/11 stores. We went along the beach for comparisons and they were nearly 3 times the prices at than at The Laguna.
.We stayed on the 3rd floor Siam Chalets and I think I preferred this the most, the rooms around the little creek would have been ok, but in my opinion I would not have liked to have stayed right on the beach in the villas there...a little too close to the surf, which was pretty big at high tide. The beach itself isnt very nice, but living in Australia we are spoilt for beautiful beaches and nowhere really compares to us...the tide comes right in at high tide so you cant walk or really even go in as its a bit rough...but at low tide you can walk out to the lighthouse which looked pretty cool but didnt do.Enjoyed my stay here and would recommend this place to stay.
I just have to mention one thing that happened at the Bag shop up the road..its just near the DVD and cd shop and just down from D_TIME , I bought a backpack and gave the guy most of the money , and said I"d be back with the rest after getting money out from ATM...I saw him just walked passed me without saying anything. thought he was just hanging around, but when I got to the shop it was shut... I couldnt belive it, so he got my bag and money ..it put a bit of bad feeling about my trip there,he was from Burma not Thai , so I just have to not be so trusting now...

Room Tip: Go for the chalets,

This hotel was just perfect for our holiday. We stayed in a Siam Chalet room on the second (top) floor. These are the cheaper rooms but that didn't mean we felt we lost out in any way by not having one of the larger or beachfront villas. The rooms are very large and there was plenty of space for the 3 of us. I researched many hotels in the area before choosing this one and the room size was a big consideration for us. We weren't disappointed. The lighting in the bathroom is darker than we prefer but I think this applies to all rooms in the hotel and is down to the dark decor whcih, in itself, is lovely.

Breakfast was fantastic and set us up for the day. We didn't eat there in the evenings, preferring to venture out to local restaurants which are only a walk away. The proximity to bars and restaurants was also a consideration as we like to walk out in the evenings. However, taxis are very cheap and nearby Bang Niang is only TB150 in a taxi. There are plenty of bars and restaurants there to try too, plus a great market on Mon, Weds & Sat.

The beach is lovely and the pool areas are well maintained. There was a lovely tranquil air about the whole place. Spa treatments by the pool were gorgeous.

The evacuation of the hotel during the tsunami alert was EXCELLENT. A very frightening experience was so well-handled by the ever-courteous hotel staff and we felt very safe in their hands. The generosity of the hotel afterwards with the free bar and dinner was overwhelming.

Most of the staff we encountered were lovely - polite, courteous, friendly, smiling. The beachfront restaurant staff were, at times, a little curt but we put that down to the heat! It must be difficult being on your feet all day in the temperatures and humidity that we experienced so perhaps it was understandable.

We would highly recommend the Laguna and will definitely stay there again if we visit Khao Lak in the future.

Room Tip: Siam Chalets are perfectly if you are looking for a typical hotel-type room with a touch of Thai lux...

The hotel grounds are wonderful, simply fantastic. Our Similan Pearl Villa right on the beach with everything in it that we needed. The villas are nicely appointed, though very dark (because of the dark wood). Beach and pool area as we like it. There was always enough space and comfortable sunbeds.
Breakfast had something for everybody. Fresh fruits, thai food, omelettes (yummy!), pancakes, toast, jam, salad, sweets, juices, cornflakes, yogurt... and more. I probably forgot a lot.
We did the Asian buffet and Songkran buffet and were somehow dissappointed because there wasn't enough food. The quality of the food was high standard and it tasted great but they didn't have extra supply for every dish, so when I wanted some of the Korean BBQ they already cleared the table and there was no homemade coconut icecream on Songkran when we finally made it to dessert. We aren't slow eaters, we just like to enjoy a buffet and didn't pay just for half of it.
The staff was polite and always helpful. We loved the poolside treatments of the spa. Lovely!
Evacuation on the tsunami alert April 11 was professional and when we finally could return to the hotel, the staff made sure we felt safe.
When we ever return to Khao Lak (there are so many nice places to go) we would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: if you're a light sleeper you might want to book a siam room, in the beachfront villas the sound...

Very good hotel in very good location. Special thanks for excellent breakfast and wlan working all over hotel area. Only minuses are the location of the hotel safes at the reception and relatively high-priced restaurant and spa. World-class evacuation capability and care for the residents in the April 11 tsunami alert.

My husband and I stayed at the Laguna for 2nights in a Similian pearl villa. The villa was right next to the beach, but was a little dated. The view was fantastic, but sadly spoilt by a big tv blocking the view from the bed. Don't get me wrong, having satellite channels were great, but when you pay top dollar for a sea view, I want to see it.

The resort had the largest breakfast area I have ever seen, but service wasn't great.

We chose this resort to be nearer the hustle and bustle, but the restaurants and bars were along the road rather than on the beach, which is the type of night life I prefer. I think the hotel is part of package tours which led to it being very full and beds being reserved very early, despite warnings of not doing so.

Plus points were free wifi and a good range of books to read.
