Just returned from a 5 day vacation at Khaolak Sunset Resort and was very impressed by the services.

We booked the hotel via an agent and was worried about quality at first as previous bookings via agent was doggy. When we arrived at the resort, two spacious rooms were arranged for my family of 4 even before we had time to sip the welcome drink. Rooms are reasonably furnished but decor is a bit worn out and some may find it not rustic or classy by Thai standards. Attention to comfort and details are there as room has frills like coffee/tea making facility, bath robes, two umbrellas and sets of sandals for both indoor and outdoor use. The King size bed is a bit hard for my light weight body but plenty of cushions in room to make one comfortable.

The hotel has an extensive beach front as it is situated on the south side of a long beach so lots of quiet space for people who wants more privacy. Beach is brown sand and water is clean so the energetic ones can even swim to the rocky cliff area to snorkel. Breakfast is reasonably good and it is nice to enjoy breakfast almost right on the beach. If you don’t want to take all meals at the hotel then there is a café with a cliff view of the beach about 3 minutes walk south of hotel. But the café offers a better view but not better food then the hotel. So for better food at slightly lower price then hotel, you have to walk almost 25-30 minutes into Khaolak centre where competition keeps price low for same quality. If you are lazy, beware of sleazy taxi drivers who will over-charge, we had drivers asking for 200 Baht for the 2km distance but found one who charged 60 Baht only for our family of 4. Later, we simply hired a motorbike from Noi’s Travel (near Supermarket in town) for about 250 Baht a day and I ferried everyone around. We also rented a car to drive into Phuket but you should be warned that road signs are poor by western standards.

You cannot beat this hotel for service: on the day we had to leave at 7am for the airport, the staff kindly let us have basic breakfast even before restaurant opening hour. The hotel also prepared complimentary breakfast boxes of food so we won’t go hungry along the way. So if you do not mind a bit of worn out furniture or bathroom fittings, some bits of tsunami damaged area, then I think the Khaolak Sunset Resort is your no nonsense, down to earth hotel with good service for a peaceful beach holiday.

When we booked this hotel there was only 1 review out there so we took a gamble and we were definatley NOT disappointed. Rooms are spacious but only have 1 powere point, but you work around that. Views spectacular, hotel food and drinks Very cheap and brilliant quality. Staff could not be any better and always smiling. The Town is approx. 20 minute steady walk but path ways great and well lite. Taxis varied so much so get a price first. Would we go back? Most definatley. Actually all ready booked for next year.

We had the most amazing time while staying here.All of the staff were wonderful the service was amazing the location was great this is probably one of the best holidays i have ever had which i enjoyed with my 2 young children and my mum.

I enjoyed 10 days at this hotel and loved it.

The rooms are very spacious with all the mod con's you need. The hotel staff are great and the restaurant overlooks the beach.

If you want a good base to relax and a short distance from the national park, this is the place to go.
