“Lovely Hotel, great location, friendly helpful staff and value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2009

La Flora Resort & Spa is located right at the golden sandy beach Bang Niang. Only 1 hour drive north of Phuket Airport. They offer a choice of villas or various deluxe rooms. We stayed in a deluxe room during Low Season and were very happy with it.

From the moment we were greeted we received friendly and helpful service in beautiful Thai tradition. The staff really did turn our stay into a special and memorable experience.
Whether it was enjoying a relaxing treatment at the spa, or a sunset cocktail at the pool bar, the friendliness and happy service was a joy to experience.
Having a cocktail while watching the sunset over the Andaman Sea was a great way to split the daytime activities from the nights festivities and/or romance. Yes, the La Flora Resort does lend itself to Romance.

We especially liked:

The Receptionists taking time to help with pronunciation and Thai language.
The friendliness of ALL the staff from the owner to the gardeners and all inbetween.
The Food in both the International and Thai Menu’s.
The rooftop for Sunsets.
The Infinity pool.
The Cocktails.
The Room Service Menu.

The La Flora Resort & Spa offers two entirely different swimming pool experiences. Right at the beach is the two layered infinity pool where we enjoyed cocktails and snacks delivered pool side.
The second pool is a large free-form pool which winds through the back half of the resort, creating many tiny private bays. I can’t say more than it looked fantastic, because that pool was officially closed for the low season. However, just to walk out of your room into your Jacuzzi jets and pool would be great.
I’m allergic to chlorine or I would have happily stayed in a room that led directly into the back pool. So I took my antihistamines in order to have a few swims in the infinity pool. Well & truly worth it.
The cocktail list is enormous and the bar staff are very helpful if you want to experiment. The happy hours are frequent and it’s worth going to the bar at happy hour if you like to indulge a bit.
There was a resident guitarist & singer who strolls around the restaurant, pool area and beach front in the evenings. Freddie has stories about all the famous people he’s played music with and he likes to serenade. He’s a real “Character”.
However, it got a bit annoying when we were having a romantic and (for Thailand) expensive dinner and he decided we needed close serenading. What we really needed was privacy to talk and eat. LOL! Oh well, that’s a holiday experience isn’t it. It’s also the only thing I can think of that was less than perfect the whole time we were there.
We had no issues with noise or ground staff or cleaning staff being noisy. In fact, they were polite, helpful and we even tipped the cleaners because they did an excellent job.
The breakfasts were adequate and plentiful and the service was immediate and consistently good.

You also need to know that the beach is not owned by the hotel. Which is a good thing. No beach should ever be owned by any hotel, the locals have a right to enjoy their country, the view and the beach & ocean too.
Neither should we make complaints about fellow tourists in a review of a hotel. That is neither fair nor an accurate complaint to level at the hotel. The complaints from other tourists should not decrease your room and value ratings. Come on, really is that fair?

The La Flora Resort & Spa is great value for money. We lived it up. Dining, Drinking, Spa’s etc and we were thrilled with the very low cost of staying there for a week. It was really good value and we’ll certainly stay there again. In fact, I’ll indulge a little bit more next time.

We also had the privilege of being given the experience of lighting a good luck lantern on the beach. Then putting our hopes and dreams into it and letting it go to sail high into the sky and away into the night. Memorable and wonderful. Not part of the usual service but in low season you never know who you might meet that will make these extra pleasures possible.

I’m now going to post this much. Because I still need to tell you about the great and funny Spa experience but I don’t have time to write right now. So I’ll post this to get started and post more later.

Happy Holidaying Everyone!

This is a nice hotel with a superb infinity pool - what a view! We stayed in one of the cottages with a 5 star view of the beach except...there are annoying tourists parked at the bottom of your porch from as soon as you wake until dusk. In our case, these pesky tourists took it upon themselves to complain that we were too noisy! We, family of five including young children, hardly spent time at the cottage as we explored the beach. I guess the time we did spend at the cottage was a little over the top when the kids opened their mouths. I was livid to say the least that I was commanded to silence my children by some balding goofball lazing in a lounger from morning to night. I tried to complain about this loser but the general manager seemed a tad too busy to see us.

Other complaints...except for the excellent breakfast buffet food is less than average. Spend your meals on the wonderful array of restaurants at the beach. Service at the hotel is average and if you want to rise early, well the gardeners noisily set to work at 630am. Our cottage had a jacuzzi which was freezing cold. Not a great selling point in addition to the aforementioned annoying loungers at your feet.

Sorry but can't recommend this one especially if you have small children. Little to no value for your hard earned money.

La Flora Khao Lak is great for staff and value for money. Buffet dinner is only around 13 Euro and a lot of choices esp. great desserts. We heard that the Chef worked in England for many years and also in 5 star hotel in Bangkok and Phuket. He is super!
The breakfast also offers cheese and lobster soup!!

The library is cool! There is a lot of space at the coffee room, too. They are comfortable and make you feel most at home. Time we spent their is valuable every min. Of course, will come back again every year if we can.

The hotel is already in various reviews and aptly described in terms of architecture, size, gardens, etc ... was an honorable mention. This positive impression, we can only confirm.

In our view, it will be hard to find something better. The hotel is situated on a beautiful, clean beach section, which invites to swim, relax and walks. Motorized water sports is luckily not allowed .
In walking distance there are numerous, very good and highly recommended restaurants, shops, massage facilities, providers of excursions and (who likes) tailors.

The staff was extremely friendly and every request, every wish was immediately discharged.
The warmth seemed honest and coming from inside.

Breakfast fulfilled all expectations. Various flavors (Asian, American, Continental) will be covered. Fresh fruit (mango, papaya, pineapple, watermelon, ..) is always abundant. Egg dishes in all the variants are freshly prepared at a separate counter.

Sports: beautiful swimming pool with an optical axis on the Andaman Sea. Beautiful.
The very friendly poolboys offered some games like waterpolo if requested.

The room for a family of four is sufficiently large and tastefully furnished. The cleanliness was impeccable.

Restaurant recommendation:
A the beach on the right: Chong Fah. On the left: first Restaurant on the beach in front of the beach massage cabins. The name I have unfortunately no longer on it.
In the City: Tankieng (on main street

Just returned from 13 nights at the lovely La Flora resort. We had a fantastic time - the hotel was brilliantly run, all the staff very friendly and the pool and beach were great.

We were in the deluxe room which is the most basic, but was fantastic - beautiful bathroom, comfy bed - cleaned perfectly everyday and fresh flowers left every day.

Lots of great restaurants near by - Sawadee (try the red snapper in thai curry), Lucky, Jai, Chon fong. Also the sea food bbq run by the hotel on Sundays was delicious - lots of crab, red snapper, king prawns and lobster.

Happy hour was great, and would recommend the frozen margaritas.

Only slight disappointments were the breakfast which isnt brilliant - but fills you up...and the other guests who lived up to the deckchair hogging stereotype!

Would definately recommend the resort and the area for a chilled out holiday in the sun!

Had a wonderful trip - 11 nights and wish it had been longer. An amazing holiday, our first trip to Thailand, although have been to Far East before and always loved it. Arrived at hotel and greeted with lovely cold towel and a drink. We had booked a deluxe room but ended up being upgraded to a studio room which was wonderful. Room 111, at the end of the block with a good sized terrace. The bed was decorated on our arrival and the hotel then proceeded to bring us an anniversary cake - a wonderful gesture.

The room was wonderful - clean, large and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and everyone was so friendly. A special mention for Mr Top, who brought our bags to the room and from then on was really helpful and considerate. Senior managers are always visible and very keen that you should let them know if there is anything you need.

The whole hotel area is beautifully kept, the gardeners clearly work hard to maintain such lovely areas. Pool was great and always managed to get a sun bed around it without much problem although it was towards the end of the season. Hotel provides pool towels which you can change whenever you need to.

We were really lucky to be there over Songkran (Thai new year) and the water fights and games had to be seen to be believed. What was so lovely was the fact that the guests and staff all joined in and had the best time.

The beach in front of the hotel was beautiful. We are not really beach people, preferring a pool to the sea, but even we could not resist going into the sea every day. You could swim out to a pontoon and get a wonderful view of the beach. We walked for what seemed like miles in each direction and hardly saw anyone. Bliss! There are mountain bikes for use at the hotel (no charge) and we borrowed them several times and just rode off into the surrounding countryside. Definitely worth doing, even though it was very hot - you just have to stop off and have a beer every so often!

We used the spa once because we had a voucher for a free 1 hr Thai massage. Absolute heaven. The spa is so relaxing and calm but don't know about prices of massages there. On the beach you could have a Thai massage for 300 Baht which seems pretty good value to me.

We had breakfast in the hotel but that was it - drinks seemed expensive and there is a little store opposite the hotel where you could buy beer and soft drinks for a fraction of the price at the hotel. There is a souvenir shop there too and that was quite reasonable.

For eating, we mostly ate either in Bang Niang, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel or we went along the beach to the Ton Restaurant. Each time, we would have a starter (usually shared between the 2 or us, a main meal, and a large beer each and the bill would come to no more than about£8 or £9! One night we pushed the boat out and spent £12 for two people!!

We did two trips, not through our tour operator, but arranged locally. One to James Bond island - a must - but be prepared for mass tourism! The best bit was the canoeing amongst the mangrove swamps and limestone crops. Some places you need to lie right down in the canoe in order to get into the cave area! Brill. The island itself was like being on a film set and we have the usual photos, but the whole place is really one tourist magnet selling tacky souvenirs. But - you can't go this far round the world and not do this trip really...

Also went to Similan Islands - again massive tourist trap. Beaches are beautiful snorkelling ok but very glad we didn't pay the huge prices they wanted for diving there. Some fish and fairly good coral but nothing spectacular.

All in all, this was an amazing holiday. If the weather was better in August, I would already have booked to go back to La Flora, but don't fancy sitting in the rain for most of the time. If in doubt, book it, you will have a wonderful time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I will try my best to help you.

We spent 13 nights at the Flora in a first floor room above the pool access rooms - excellent in all respects. The staff at the hotel were always pleasant and eager to assist in any way, and services were as good as one could wish for. We were on a B & B basis so whilst buffet breakfast was fine, we didn't actually use the restaurant, so cannot comment on it. Just so many places up the road to eat like a king at very reasonable prices. The Kua Siam Seafood Restaurant has to be singled out as outstanding, both for quality & value and for the friendliness of the people who run it. It's the big thatched place on the BangNeng beach Road. As I said, the hotel was great, but oh dear, the manners & attitude of some of the other clients left so much to be desired! The majority of them were Scandinavian or German, and I must say that we have not experienced such bad manners in a long time; is it possible that these people are not taught the English words "please" & "thank you" when they are learning the language? Every morning at breakfast, demands were made of the staff for "two fried eggs!" or "more tea!" and very rarely a "thank you" given. And of course the old chestnut concerning the sun loungers, up at the crack of dawn to deposit a towel on several loungers which then remain unoccupied for hours. One Scandinavian family - 12 loungers "reserved", only eight maximum used at any time - come on, play the game!
Sorry to sound off, but it was such a shame to encounter such behaviour all the time in what was a superb hotel in a lovely place. The English often get bad press for the bad behaviour of a few, but the majority of us do have reasonable manners.
