“Holiday toSingapore and Thailand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

We had a fantastic relaxing holiday at La Flora, the staff were very helpful and polite. We had a pool access room which was great, the breakfast was good and the staff very friendly, especially the manager Mikey , who was full of fun. The barbecue night was excellent value, and the entertainment very good. On the whole we had a great holiday and would highly recomend La Flora.

Room Tip: We had a pool access room which are in a quiet area of the hotel, and worth the extra money.

This hotel could so easily get four stars from me but there were too many minor points which lets it down. The hotel stands on a relatively small site but is well laid out. I would concur with another reviewer that room choice is critical. On arrival. our room wasn't ready so we were upgraded to a poolside room. Very glad that we were as the standard deluxe rooms would not have been adequate. The room itself was good with the usual hotel facilities you would expect with the addition of a jacuzzi bath. The bathroom was showing its need of refurbishment with the shower particularly dirty with mould and scum all round the shower screen. The kettle didn't work and within an hour of arrival I received an electric shock from a faulty light fitting ! The kettle and light were replaced without question but there seemed to be little concern about my electrical experience. The pool outside the room has a lot of mould round the tiles which detracted form what was an excellent facility. Lack of sun beds didn't really help and despite the signs saying beds could not be reserved, there were rarely any available after 0800 hrs. Breakfast was good with a large varied choice and food in the restaurant on the couple of occasions we used it was good. Location on the beach is great and there are many restaurants within a short walk offering a range of reasonably priced food.
All in all, not too bad an experience but management must get a grip of the many small problems that could be rectified with little effort. There is no excuse for a dirty bathroom ! At present, I would not recommend La Flora to anyone.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't choose a standard deluxe room.

My comments on this hotel have been discussed at length with the hotel management prior to leaving and for the most part they have accepted them

This hotel is built on a relatively thin piece of land with boundaries one one side by the sea, two sides by the road and one side by another resort. The designers of the hotel have built on virtually every square metre of the land and as such it does not have the amount of garden etc you would expect from a Thai 4 star resort. It can be broken down into 3 distinct sections.
1. The sea end is home to 3 storey buildings holding most of the de luxe rooms, the bungalows, the main pool, the reception, restaurant and the grassed sea front where the loungers are placed.
Because of the cramped set up, the reception is straight off the road without the normal pleasant drive associated with Thai resorts. The hotel has 138 rooms in all and because of the limited space there is insufficient loungers for all residents. There are no standard rooms, so the 'de luxe' rooms would be classified as standard garden rooms by any normal definition.
2. The centre section is filled from the road on one side to the the other resort on the other with a lovely free form pool surrounded by pool access rooms at ground level and more 'de luxe' rooms above and the Spa building.
3. The far end of the resort is a conference centre.
The construction of the 2nd section is clearly designed to provide a personal pool area for the pool access rooms with a link to the conference centre to the preclusion of the rest of the resort including the 'de luxe' rooms above. It is notable that most of the top reviews on this resort come from people staying in the pool access rooms.

From my comments it is evident that we were in a 'de luxe' room. It was on the second floor of a 3 storey block and provided us with a view of the top half of trees. As soon as we arrived we said to the lady showing us the room we were not happy and could we change room. She reported back to reception who phoned us and said that we could change room to a pool access room for the last 12 days of our 14 day stay for about £55 a day. I asked if we could agree a bundled price for 12 days and she said she would come back to me. We never heard any more from her.

The room itself was a good size but the shower needed re-grouting, the curtains had paint on them where they hadn't been taken down during maintenance, there was a lot of space taken up with a day bed? but the balcony only had room for 2 chairs and a table. Would have been better to have a bigger balcony with loungers and no day bed. Disappointed to find only 10 coat hangars for 2 people for a 14 day stay.

Activities - There was a board showing for each 2 hours of the day planned activities. These were clearly just replicated week on week and included such things as beach football, Thai boxing etc. There seemed to be no regard for who the guests were or their needs. In 14 days 2 ladies attempted some yoga and there was a session of water polo. None of the other activities were used. You could book a trip on a speed boat but we fancied going on a long tail boat. After 3 attempts we eventually found the activities people at their post watching a football match. They were more interested in telling us it was Bayern Munich than our request and told us that we would have to go outside the resort to arrange a long tail boat trip. We later spoke to guests who met staff who had arranged long tail boat trips for them.

Entertainment - There is none. Around the hotel there are multiple beach bars, restaurants and other resorts. The resort put on some special evening dinners for those few that choose not to eat outside the resort and have some bland background singer 'performing'. The resorts on the side could be heard with their discos and Thai dancing nights etc.

Beach bar - There is a badly designed basic beach bar which has limited seating, partly because large wooden pillars take up what should be seating space. Not normally an issue as generally there is more staff than customers. Unfortunately many of the bar staff are experts at not noticing you want serving or prefer to wash glasses first. You expect in a resort like this for bar staff to parade round the loungers on a frequent basis seeing if anybody wants a drink or a snack. Not here, you have to walk to the bar to order anything.

All in all room choice is critical. Staying in the so called 'de luxe' rooms this was not a patch on many Thai resorts I have stayed at before.

We booked to stay at the La Flora for our honeymoon, and we weren't disappointed.
We arrived at 8pm after a long journey, and we given a cold drink and ice cold towel while the reception staff sorted our check in. It was very smooth and in no time we were in our pool access room where the staff had decorated the bed with our names and origami style swans, and a fabulous cake iced with our names , beautiful. The room was very comfortable, and clean, with everything you need including toiletries. Maid service twice a day, with a little packet of handmade sweets in the evening. Breakfast is served in the view 59 restaurant, where you can sit in or outside, again we weren't disappointed. The fabulous staff served tea and coffee always with a smile, and you then could help yourself to fruit juices, fresh fruit, cereal, meat, cheese, eggs cooked to order, and much more and it was delicious. The hotel sits on Bang Niang beach, where you special away the hours on a sunbed looking at the beautiful Andanan sea, or go for a dip and the lovely warm water.
La Flora has 2 pools, the infinity pool on the beach front and the freeform pool where our room was, both lovely and clean and towels are provided every day. The breeze bar serves fabulous cocktails and there are 3 happy hours every day. We ate in the restaurant quite alot, good value for money and the food was amazing, so tasty and served beautifully. Theme nights were also good along with Thai cooking classes. We booked a romantic meal on the beach, which was fantastic. I wish I could name all the staff to sing their praises from reception staff, waiters, maids to the gardeners, they work so hard and nothing is too much trouble. The only downside to our holiday. .....we had to come home and leave this paradise. Try and visit the tsunami museum, a very moving place and the video footage had me in tears, yet everyone in Khao Lak still keeps smiling, amazing people. Thank you, for making our honeymoon so special.

One of the few hotels we have ever returned to and it was not a disappointment . Its location is superb being right on a wonderful stretch of beach, the staff could not be more helpful and the food at the hotel is great if you want either thai or western. There is a lovely atmosphere throughout the hotel with all the guest's mixing well with one another. It would be easy to go on and on, I'll let the other reviews do that. Suffice to say we had a great time.

We're on our last glorious day here. La Flora is a fabulous resort, perfectly situated on the beach. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. The food is great - an extensive buffet breakfast with everything you could wish for. Various 'theme' nights are good value, and they have 3 one hour 'happy hours' every day, which helps!
We stayed in a ground floor deluxe studio - ok, but don't be fooled by the 'terrace and garden view' - the terrace is tiny and the garden view limited. Having said that, the room itself was spacious, excellent bathrooms and 2 wardrobes.
The excursions are typically quite expensive from the hotel - better to walk down the street and book at one of the many tour organisers.
All in all an excellent stay and fully recommended
