Beautiful new resort in the heart of Khao Lak. Very modern with everything you need at the resort. Staff very friendly and great activities. Excellent location right on the beach and close to the main shopping area of Khao Lok. Would definitely recommend it and would love to stay there again in the future.

We took advantage of an extraordinary deal with Luxury Escapes in May/June this year. We loved every minute of our time at the Sands and were treated as family more than guests. The room was luxurious and the gardens immaculately tendered The staff were friendly and accommodating and the food was excellent. We would recommend this resort to anyone wanting a perfect holiday in beautiful surroundings.

Room Tip: All rooms had views of the resort and the beach. Any would do.

We stayed at the sands for two weeks on half board, We had a swim up room which was well worth the extra, Breakfasts were superb, plenty to choose from, As i say we were on a Half board basis, which meant you could either have lunch or an evening meal, The evening meals were from the menu, the only slight complaint i had was you had to pay for the water/beer, wine was very expensive.
We ventured out for a meal in town on about six occasions to different restaurants just to mix it up a bit, Great value for money not at all expensive and we never had a bad meal in two weeks.

The beach was also rally nice, we used to walk to the left or right and have a couple of cocktails/beers at some of the beach bars to watch the sun set a memory that will last forever.

The people are amazing absolutely no hassle what so ever even in the shops on the main street, We never felt threatened and some nights were coming back to the hotel after 2:00am,. the pickup type taxis were very cheap if you didn't want to walk in the humidity.

The hotel was at the end of the resort so you just walked up the road from the hotel and you were in town, less than 10 minutes. The staff at the sands were probably the best we have come across in all our travels, nothing was too much trouble. There was a happy hour at two bars from 5:30pm - 6:30pm and then 9:30pm - 11:00pm so well done the resort management for that.

We did a couple of trips, the highlight was the trip to James Bond Island, you went through the mangroves talk about Kodak time, we must have took over 100 pictures amazing full day trip.

Would we go back, you bet we will, maybe in a couple of years but definatley we will return. We went in March and the weather was great, just a couple of thunderstorms. We were told that the best time is probably Jan/feb where there is no chance of rain and the humidity is much less intense.

If you are thinking of going I hope this review gives you an idea of what to expect, it is a wonderful resort with great people great location, and great food.

Room Tip: If you want a swim up room get one on the right hand side of the resort as you look from reception...

I spent 5 nights in a Seaside Junior Suite at The Sands (ground floor room with a terrace not a balcony) and it didn't disappoint at all. The staff were wonderfully helpful and efficient, the facilities were fantastic, the rooms large & comfortable, the spas are amazing. My room was directly opposite one of the pools (the Peace Pool) and close to the beach. It was just so relaxing and peaceful - I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!!

Room Tip: Ground floor Seaside Jnr Suite is amazing - terrace rather than balcony. I could leave my terrace do...

We stayed here in May 2014 for 5 nights and we really enjoyed our stay, the rooms were spacious, well cleaned and maintained.

We had a seaside junior suite which was close to the main restaurant (floating market) we had great sea views. Some of the rooms closer to reception don't get such a great views, because of where they're situated.

Breakfast was vast and very tasty, it was busy due to everyone dinning together but the selection was lovely and fresh.

We had happy hour drinks at the bar near the lobby and the cocktails we're nice, some too sweet. The swim up bar is lovely, the cocktails are better here than the lobby bar, the food was tasty.

There is a busy kids pool but also a quiet adults pool set a little further away which is great if you want some peace.

Tip 1 - Walk down the beach and turn right, walk all the way towards the lights and there are some lovely beach restaurants serving food at very good local prices.

Tip 2- Walk up to Khao Lak town and explore, there is a lovely restaurant called *Smile khao lak* which serves delicious food, owned by a french guy.

Room Tip: Closest to the beach as possible

We stayed at The Sands for 4 nights in a family room. Beautiful layout. Room facing the pool. Spacious rooms. Modern clean bathroom. Huge freestanding bath. Loved our stay there. Kids club was also fantastic. Loads of fun activities for my 8 yr old. Their Day Spa is just so relaxing. Excellent service by staff. Friendly faces and smiles. Can't wait to visit again.

I will start with the hotel itself. We could not fault the place. A Beautiful resort. Great service amazing food and yummy cocktails. The resort was packed but still big enough to cope with everyone. Breakfast was amazing so much to choose from one of the best we have ever had. We stayed in the pool room which was great to have our own private pool to use each day and at night. The resort was in a really good location we walked along the beach within 10 mins found very cheap and delicious beach side restaurants. and just a 4 min walk up to the road the famous Smile restaurant sits. So plenty of options if you don't like to eat at the resort.

We chose to get married at the Sands. We had a group of 30 of us. The wedding planner Wiracha was very helpful from the start with emails and giving us all the information. She was very on to it when we arrived and made us feel like we could relax and not worry about a thing.

On the morning of the wedding we had plenty of time to relax which was nice. We started with the hair and makeup at midday in their special wedding gallery. Unfortunately this is where the review turns a bit sour. We were given two girls in the package to do this for us it was meant to take 1 hour max per girl and we had 5 of us so we should have been finished by 3pm leaving us time to get dressed and have a bit of fun before the ceremony.

One girl was 30 mins late to start with and the first girl struggled through the first bridesmaid like she didn't know what she was doing. The second girl was much better but kept having to help the other girl as she clearly wasn't doing a good job. She put makeup on my sister and honestly turned her into an orange person or ompa lompa so had to start again. I was meant to get married at 4.25 and i still hadn't had my makeup and hair done at 4pm. One of our guests ended up doing my makeup and my hair was extremely rushed and didn't last for day. This was by far the most disappointing part of our wedding as we were rushed not relaxed and I didn't enjoy this time getting ready together with my best friends. It also meant we were 45 mins behind schedule which made it very difficult for the the photographer with the sun going down so we missed out on 45 mins of good quality light for photos. Im a photographer myself so this was a real shame for me. It also left our guests waiting outside in close to 38 degree heat.

The wedding itself was set up beautifully overlooking the ocean. Every detail was carefully planned and the flowers were amazing. It was like a dream and it couldn't have looked better.

When i was dropped off to walk down the path to my groom and guests the path was lined with resort guests in their bikinis and togs watching. They were so close to me i was able to hear them talking. From reviews about resort weddings i had expected this to be the case but not as close as these people were, it was like they were part of our wedding and unbelievably rude. The resort staff made no attempt to move them back and our area where we were married was not roped off so a lot of the guests had turned their sun loungers around to face our wedding ceremony or just stood on the side a watched hearing everything word for word. This only got worse when the baby elephant came. They got closer and closer, the resort guests are even in the background of of our wedding photos :( The baby elephant was taken away shortly after the group photo so we were not even able to get any shots with it just me and my husband. I think the baby elephant got either too excited or scared with the amount of resort guests coming up to take photos and ask to have their photo with it.

It does get better from here. The reception was set up perfectly i had a lot of bits and pieces for the reception tables, a lot of fussing and it was no problem whatsoever for the staff to set it out how i wanted it, the room looked incredible. The food was to die for and so much of it. The whole night ran smoothly. It was the best night of our lives.

It is very hard to review the resort for our wedding. I would give the resort itself 5 stars for the accommodation and facilities. But the wedding i'm not sure. If those 3 negative points I mentioned above could be fixed it would be the perfect wedding venue 5 stars.

I also think what makes it worse is we were asked to full out a feedback sheet on our departure
about our wedding and we wrote about the above points and no one has even bothered to contact us about it since we left 6th May 2014.

Despite the few hiccups it was still the most amazing wedding day and week of our lives and we will treasure these memories forever. I think the Sands could really improve on a few things to make weddings better so just keep these points in mind if you are thinking of booking and maybe find your own hair and makeup artist.
