“A memorable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2014

My family and I stayed at this lovely hotel during the first two weeks of August. The hotel is beautiful and set among'st lovely grounds on the sea front. The staff were the most friendly and hospitable people you would wish to come across. The rooms were lovely and cleaned to a high standard every day and the breakfast was plentiful with a good choice. There a 3 restaurants in the hotel which were lovely although a little pricey. Although we visited during monsoon season this didn't affect our stay at all. The rain would come in short bursts but it would soon dry up again. There are 3 beach bars located on the beach where we often stopped for a drink and received a friendly welcome. It was our first time in Thailand but it definitely won't be our last. We would definitely recommend this hotel, it is away from all the hustle and bustle but if this is the sort of holiday you enjoy then I would definitely recommend.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2014 via mobile

I have been to many resorts and have found this one to be very peaceful and secluded. Although it is rated 5 star and the service on most occasions depicts this, I have found that the hotel is not finesse around the edges. It's clean and well manicured, but I do find it to be a little roughly finished. That does not mean I did not have a beautiful stay. The resort is a little far away to adventure out without catching transport but the hotel provides a shuttle service, which makes it convenient, although the timing of the shuttles makes adventuring out at night a little more limited. They should provide a shuttle a little later for people to enjoy dining in the main town. I'm a bit of a food lover and I found the food at the hotel very average. I strongly recommend eating out if you would like more flavor in your food. In comparison to Thai prices, the food in the hotel is excessively expensive for what you get. There are a couple of little restaurants on the beach front a short walking distance, one called "coconut" stood out amongst the rest. The only thing that annoyed me a little was inflexibility and lack of goodwill by hotel staff on a couple of instances - My partner and I purchased a package and it included massages and dinner daily, the massages were for "Thai massages" which I learnt are not with oil, when I asked to change and pay extra for oil, it was not even a possibility, therefore the massages were wasted, in my opinion the treatment was rigid especially when it was otherwise on the treatment menu. Furthermore, the dinner coupon part of the package was available to all three restaurants on the resort, one restaurant was closed the entire time due to low season. When we went to the Thai restaurant at the resort to use the coupon a lot of choice was limited due to "unavailability". This was solely because they were not stocking all ingredients because of low season. As a result of limitations we tried to use our coupon at the buffet dinner, the hotel restaurant manager told us we needed to pay extra because they were running a "special night" and asked us for 1000 THB extra. The extra money wasn't the point, the fact that one restaurant was closed, the other had a very limited menu due to low season, I believe as goodwill gesture for the limitations it should have been provided without the manager telling us "don't think of the extra money just pay seeing you have come from another country". Anyhow, overall the majority of people were more than helpful and hospitable. The weather was unpredictable, yet was still kind most days for the first half of the day. I would recommend this resort to others.

We traveled as a party of 9 adults and 2 children, arriving on the 3rd August for a 12 night stay. Our stay was reduced to 11 nights as the hotel was taken over by a wedding on the weekend of 15th August ,but this inconvenience was more than made up for by the superb reservation staff led by Pupe, who upgraded our rooms from Pool View to Pool Access and included two suite rooms in our five rooms. The rooms are as they appear on the Sentido website and are cleaned to a good standard every day.
On arrival we were met by the delightful Annie ( management take note : this Lady is very professional and courteous), we were given cold drinks and cold towels and asked to take a seat while we were checked in a process that took no more than 20 minutes. We were shown to the rooms by the bell boys who answered any questions that were asked about the rooms.
The weather for the first few days was overcast and raining on and off but still very warm the rest of our stay was mainly sunshine with a few showers.
All of the staff are very polite and helpful from the maids, pool boys, security staff and especially the the very friendly chef that worked on the egg station. The breakfast restaurant was never to busy and always kept well stocked and clean.
The inside public areas and out side spaces are all kept to a very good standard including the pools small and large, the pool boys rush over with towels and to put up the parasols.
We mainly ate out of the hotel in the evenings, although the resort is a little off the beaten track it was never a problem to arrange transport with Boss of cheaper than hotel taxis, a 25 minute drive to Khao Lak town and return a couple of hours later for 1000 baht or £10 for a party of eleven !!.
On the day of my 50th Birthday I was given a cake and a bottle of wine by the staff at breakfast and Annie even wished me Happy Birthday, we went Elephant trekking and bathing with the excellent Khao Lak Vista, we also went on a full day excursion to Phi Phi island by speedboat again with KLV, both to be recommended.
If I ever return to Khao Lak then the Graceland would be my first choice!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Pool access rooms are 1st Class

We stayed here 2 nights, 3 days:

Good things: place is brand new and has a very impressive lobby and very nice rooms. Also pool is very large and overlooks the beach. Hotel has good facilities (like spa, bowling, multiple restaurants and very nice and well maintained grounds). On the beach immediately next to the hotel are a few beach shacks where you can get a massage for USD 16 per hour, or can get some nice cocktails while viewing the sunset.

Not so good things: place is 90 min away from Phuket airport. Likely this makes the place a bit cheaper than others, but realize this when booking. Moreover this place is in the middle of nowhere (literally) so you are very dependent on the hotel for food and entertainment (yes plenty of excursions offered by tour operators both onsite and at the beach shacks). Also, the hotel is starting to look run down in certain areas which need to be taken care of. When it comes to food, essentially you have two options for lunch and dinner; for lunch either buffet, which is ok but is in this huge dining room hall, where if it gets busy (I imagine) it could get really loud), or you go to the pool restaurant. But if one in your party is vegetarian, there is nothing on the menu and staff simply does not care. It will not make an effort to suggest something different and on top of that, a few items on the menu are not available. While this can happen, it is weird that you order something: (five min later – “sorry ma’am we do not have that”, “ok let me switch for this, “sorry ma’am also not have”. As a staff member just tell us what is available and not go in silent prayer that guests do not order something that they do not have….
This did not happen once, but three times during a 3 day stay. Is it because staff does not care? Seems like it.

For dinner there is a nice Thai place and again the buffet restaurant. Thai is good.

Check in: although I realize we arrived before check in time; without explaining why, after they took your vouchers and passports, they just let you wait for 20 min. If you ask if there is a problem, you get the Royal Thai smile and no real answer; at the same time the stress behind the check in counter continues as it takes 3 people to look at computer screens and talk to each other. This is just very annoying as they do not keep you updated. To add to the confusion, we asked for an upgrade and asked what the price would be. As the hotel was 70% empty, we would have expected some leniency and a nice offer for two days. However there was no flexibility whatsoever to the price of the upgrade which we found very weird given that the rooms were going to be empty during our stay anyhow (it was proposed we pay 50% on top of what we paid already for a better room – we suggested 25% but this was like cursing in church..)

Facilities: although nice pool and beautiful beach, there were no water sports available whatsoever. As there is no other place close by that means you almost leave the ocean untouched; pity. Also, while the pool is large, the deck isn't and doesn't hold a lot of chairs, even during our stay, where the hotel was at max 30% occupancy, all pool chairs were taken.

Rooms: nice new rooms with all the amenities you need, all with a balcony with either direct pool access, or on higher floors. However the rooms assumes you are very interested to take home whatever they have as it shows a price list of literally every piece in the room. To my surprise this also included the flip flops offered for guests and the in-room slippers. As I would have thought those to be for free or at least for one use, it appears both the flip flops and the in-room slippers are being recycled from guest stay to guest stay; THAT IS GROSS and not worthy of a five star hotel

All in all this is a very nice place but needs a stronger manager to get staff aligned and more helpful (foodwise), requires more options with respect to watersports. Moreover reception staff requires a complete over whole as this is a disaster waiting to happen if a large group checks in. 6 staff could not handle more than 3 check in or check out at the same time as each took min 20 min). It is especially the first and last impression of the hotel that stays with you. Should this stronger manager not get there, I am not certain what this place would look like in 3 years.

Would recommend bearing the above in mind

Room Tip: Ask for rooms closer to the beach and not near the restaurants (like blocks 15 and 16)

Stayed from 3 - 9 August 2014. Start of wet season, but weather was kind. Swam nearly everyday. Tropical rain during day was no problem, still very warm and a bit of rain never hurt anyone.

Very friendly staff. Including the loveable Annie, the concierge. The boys driving the golf buggies that take you everywhere you want to go, the waiting staff and the room cleaners.

The three resort restaurants were great, main restaurant/buffet along with the traditional Thai and Oceanios Italian influenced cafe. In room dining was surprisingly affordable (e.g. Burger & Chips = 200THB).

Within the resort there is also a Mini Mart, a tailor and gift shop. Just outside the resort there is massage on the beach, 3 restaurants on the beach, 3 or so restaurants on the street side and tailors and massage along with a tour operator and taxi service.

Lots of activities for the kids not only around pool but also, bowling, tennis, basketball, table tennis, pool table and of course Kids Club activities all day. Also - Thai's love kids!!!

Not far away is the Bang Niang Market on Monday, Wednesday & Saturday. Lots of shopping for clothes, watches, electronics, jewellery, gifts, food etc. Khao Lak Town is also close by with all types of shopping. Not much you cant get here than in Phuket.

You must take a "taxi" or Songthao ride at some stage. Lots of fun!!

Room Tip: Rooms with pool access allow you to literally swim to your room balcony.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

We stayed at the hotel for 8 nights at the end June/beginning of July and I must say it was a vrey enjoyable stay. We did however feel it was a bit rough around the edges considering it only opened 12 months or so ago.

We arrived after an hour and half drive from Patong and noticed that it's one of the furthers hotels from Khao Lak center which was a bit concerning at first, We were greeted by the concierge who took our bags and showed us the way to check in. Check in was quite slow but to be fair there were a number of other guests arriving at the same time. We were given cold towels and a welcome drink and shown to a comfy seating area to wait. We did have to fork out for a refundable deposit against the room, I think it was 2000bhat per day on the card.Once the formalities were done, we were taken to our room on a golf buggy as our suite was in the last block, nearest to the beach.

Having booked with Thomas Cook and managed to get a fantastic rate on a pool view Morgan suite, I was thrilled when we entered the room, 2626 in the last block (far from reception). A separate kitchen/dining area and living space with tv, en suite wc, through to the bedroom with 2 queen beds, tv, walk in wardrobe with space to keep our luggage plus a bathroom with wc and shower. Beautifully decorated throughout and better than the pictures!

On the balcony we had a bathtub and 2 sun loungers and a great view over the pool below. The aircon in the living area was rather noisy and smelt quite damp. We did report this one night, but never followed it up and was unfortunately not rectified during our stay. The room was serviced everyday and water bottles being replenished was a great bonus. Fresh fruit was also provided upon arrival. The kitchen was oddly missing any cutlery or dishes but did provide glasses. The drainage in the shower could be improved too as it took forever to empty.

The main pool area had plenty of sun loungers available, however I would think it gets quite packed in high season. Pool/Beach towels are also available free of charge which was very useful. The decking around the pool could do with being painted and we noticed a cable around the pool which was unsightly and could have been hidden better. We were disappointed to be unable to swim in the sea but the red flag was up throughout or stay. Bangsak beach is gorgeous though. The hotel gardens are very well maintained with staff working everyday to keep the plants and countless palm trees in good condition.

We ate at the breakfast buffet every morning and the selection on offer was good but there wasn't much variety from day to day. The staff could have been a bit more attentive to be honest considering how quiet the hotel was, a disappointing contrast to our hotel in Patong. We also ate at the evening buffet most nights which had a better variety of local and international dishes. For 300 bhat you could have as many drinks (soft/beer/wine) as you wanted but we found this pricey if you only wanted one glass. We ate at the Italian restaurant one night, and being half board were given a set menu. However, they did kindly let my fiance swap his main for a steak off the other menu at no extra charge. The food was delicious but drinks were expensive. The pool bar was also great, with a good selection of drinks and snacks, but everything has 10% service added so be careful. We didn't sample the Thai restaurant but the menu looked good.

We used the free shuttle bus a few times to the center of Khao Lak and to Bang Niang market and found it very well organised. A tuk tuk ride back one night cost 400bhat which we thought was very reasonable as it's around a 20 minute drive and basically in the middle of nowhere-very quiet but blissful. We also used the leisure facilities every night, trying out the pool table, bowling and ping pong table. They also offer a free dvd played hire with a selection of dvds for 100 bhat a night (great if you fancy a good chill out). The staff here were by far the friendliest in the hotel.

There's a min mart at the hotel entrance selling essentials and a small taverna across the road service lovely food and a friendly service. There appeared to be a few more places down the road but we didn't venture any further. We spotted the hotel nightclub too but being low season, it was deserted (great in high season I'm sure). There are some great little places on the beach but again low season meant most of these were quiet or closed.

This is a very big resort. During our stay it was very quiet, I'd say less than 40% occupied so would be interesting to stay in high season. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to friends but if we return to Khao Lak may choose a hotel a little closer to town.

Room Tip: Suite 2626 was a beautiful, 1st floor corner in the last block on the left, one of the nearest to th...
