this resort has only just opened and we are possibly the first paying guests to stay here. it certainly has exceeded all expectations from the moment we arrived at phuket airport.
we were transfered in a luxurious toyota van (complete with amazing leg room and massage seats) and upon arrival at the resort we were swiftly checked in to our room. the trip from phuket airport took only an hour.
it was upon our arrival that we received the great news that we had been upgraded from the studio pool suite to a beachfront villa. we had never been upgraded before and were thrilled with the news! our villa was number 2111, which is literally right on the beachfront and in the far corner of the resort. The resort is compact and everything is only a very short walk.
as the resort had only just opened, the fitness center was not complete, nor was the day spa, so we cant comment on those facilities, however we were able to go to the sister resort a few mins away to use their facilities if we wanted to.
if you like modern, sleek architecture then you will love this place. the landscaping is so well done, and the established greenery sets off beautifully against the raw elements of the concrete, timber and stone that is used throughout the resort. the view from the bedroom is incredible. our favourite element is the outdoor pool which is very private and is a nice size. the pools in the beachfront villas get sunlight from about lunchtime onwards and the water is a lovely temperature. you have a great view of the ocean from your pool and decking area. the pools really are amazingly clean and well designed.
we would definitely recommend stretching your budget if you can and go for a beachfront pool villa. we did see a studio pool and they also look nice, the pool is smaller in the studio villas and they dont seem to have a seperate living area.
the breakfasts are lovely, they serve these amazing pastries which melt in your mouth. its basically a 3 course breakfast which finishes off with some fresh fruit.
the main pool area is lovely and we had this area to ourselves. so you have the choice of relaxing by your own pool or the main pool area. either way you cant go wrong.
the beach is lovely, however during the rainy season (which includes may) the water gets chopped up by the wind and rain and isnt as nice as the dry season. we previously came to khao lak in november 2009 and the beach was very clean and beautiful to swim in. this time in may we were more inclined to swim in the pool.
in terms of the weather it has rained one day out of the four days, with a brief shower on on of the other days and two days of fine weather.
the rooms come with a fantastic entertainment system which includes unlimited internet operated on the TV, free in house movies and many TV channels. you can even view your bill on the TV system.
there is also a mini bar which they top up everyday, including 4 beers, some mineral water and juice. plus they leave a sandwich and apples and plenty of bottled water.
in terms of service, we really cant complain as it has been excellent. we had some issues with the TV not working properly and they were attended to straight away and fixed up relatively quickly. we also had a 9 month old baby and they offered a reliable babysitting service and provided us with a nice cot for the baby to sleep in. you could tell that they were going out of their way to leave us with a great impression of the resort, and it worked! the little things can make a huge difference and that is was this resort does well. i think being a small resort really helps in thats respect.
we would definitely stay here again, preferably during the high season when there are more activities on offer outisde of the hotel such as more shopping, massages on the beach, better weather and beach conditions etc, however for a relaxing and quiet stay then this place is ideal any time of the year and we would happily visit again during may also. alot of the shops etc seem to shut down over the raining season so it was much quieter than our previous trip to khao lak which is during the high season.
to sum it up, we were extremely impressed with the design and construction of the resort and found it to be excellent value for money and a very enjoyable stay in all respects.
we will be back!
