“Nice hotel, good food, bad english”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2012

(Movies at the end)

We stayed at Fanari Beach Resort & Spa 1/12-2011 for 2 weeks. Really nice superior bungalow, ocean veiw, great food and service. Massage on the beach, 200-400 bath. Khao Lak is very nice to stay at, not so much people as in the big citys. Great and loving people. Only bad thing was that there was only 1-2 people that understood English on the hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at FX Khao Lak and stayed there twice in the end, on our way to and from nearby islands.

The staff are friendly and helpful, the pool is lovely, rooms are clean and smart and the breakfast is very tasty.

Though not on the beach, it is very close and you can have 'happy hour' cocktails in various places nearby and enjoy the amazing Khao Lak sunset - it really is the most beautiful I have ever seen.

Apart from the suset Khao Lak itself is a bit empty and forlorn - even in peak season though the FX, amazing cocktails and sunsets might be enough reason to give it a try.

I just returned from Thailand after spending 5 days at the Fanari Hotel with a group of 21. It's a small, intimate place on the beach with most of the bungalows surrounding the pool. The staff could not have been friendlier. One evening we planned to eat our dinner at the hotel and were asked if we wanted it set up on the beach. The buffet dinner was wonderful and they even had lanterns ready for one member of our group who was celebrating his birthday. We will certainly go back again.

Fanari is only a small hotel ,but has a big heart. Dont expect 5 star accommodation, but can expect 5 star service! Sure the staff have limited english, but patience is rewarded with big smiles and friendly enthusiasm.Mr Deng ,the food and beverage manager organised a special dinner for my birthday ,which was the highlight of my trip.
The breakfasts are basic but big,but the meals for lunch and dinner from the kitchen were some of the best we had.
Fanari was perfect for us-if you dont like big resorts this is the ideal place. Great massages next door, and walking distance to restaurants and bars. We will be back!!!

Room Tip: for families ask for the duplex room. Beachside bungalows are just that-literally beachside

We were the only 4 guests at this hotel which was very strange. The whole area of Khao Lak was deserted and we also had torrential rain 2 of 3 days which completely flooded the streets. The pool villas I booked on-line actually weren't around the pool so we asked if we could change to the main block and have pool access. We were charged an extra fee which I thought was a little mean considering there were no other guests staying, but it was well worth it. Two pools are available and both lovely. The rooms were very nice and spacious and had 2 queen beds and a divan which was a nice change for our 2 teenage boys to spread out. The shower-room and toilet were separate and both clean and modern with great shower pressure. Although there is a fridge and mineral water is provided daily, there was no tea or coffee provided. The hotel appears to be on the beach in the photos, but this is not the case. it is a block back but with no view. We went for a few walks and the whole place was deserted and the sea is unsafe to swim in at this time of year. Breakfast was a la carte and it was a little disconcerting having 6 staff waiting just for us to appear in the mornings. I felt sorry for all the staff having so little to do. There were also 6 cleaners waiting to tidy our rooms. There are several restaurants and market type shops and many tailors touting for business and there were some very good meals to be had at reasonable prices. We hired scooters for a day and checked out some of the local waterfalls and an elephant park nearby. Every elephant park we passed in Phuket and Khao Lak I felt the poor creatures looked miserable. I think that this could be a nice area to stay in the high season and when you can actually get in the sea and do some snorkelling or diving, but it definitely wasn't fun at this time of the year.

Room Tip: Pool access rooms are great if you can get one. We took the local bus from Phuket which cost us 90 b...

Quite little hotel - and some nice pools.
Not far from small shopping streets ans cosy restaurants.

Fine beach - in at short distance from hotel.

Kind staff.

I arrived in Bang Niang Khao Lak during a tropical storm very wet and decided that I needed a hotel with better facilities to the one that I had booked which was more basic. I had often walked past the FX Resort and always thought how nice it looked so took it upon myself to walk in introduce myself and see if they could offer me a room. I was shown a beautiful very large spacious room on the second floor overlooking the pool with a king bed and large single so ideal for families it also had a day bed in the room, plasma tv, fridge, air con, plenty of wardrobe space, electronic safe, bathroom with shower complimentary bottled water and breakfast included in the hotel restaurant. Large balcony with pool view. From walking into the hotel it was a real pleasure to stay here. The staff were friendly and gave outstanding service while I was there. What I also loved about this hotel was that you had a choice of room styles you could have pool access rooms which they had 10 and then 20 pool view rooms. They also had 34 bungalow suites which are set in a beautiful tropical garden which was an oasis of tranquility set around a lovely pool. Guests can use either pool and both are large pools with lovely sun loungers . The hotel also had all other facilities massage, pool bar, internet services, mini mart, laundry and tour services plus airport transfer. Breakfast was taken in the hotels restaurant Cafe De Beach which was excellent with plenty of choice and a fresh egg station. I also ate here a few nights and the food ws superb this restaurant is well worth a visit even if you are not staying here . I had Chicken A La Creme one night with Fettuchini pasta and it was delicious so much so that I ate here again on my last evening as it was wonderful. I also tried the fish cakes and prawn tempura which was as good. The location of the hotel is perfect one road back from the beach in a quiet area and only a few minutes walk to the beach with plenty of good dining places shops and bars close by in the vicinity.I had a wonderful stay at the FX Resort beautiful clean and spacious rooms and amazing pool areas with outstanding hospitality. I will be back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
