“Nice beach location in Khao Lak and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2010

We like the privacy at the beach, but still near the center including dive shops.
Rooms are very spacious and good value. Back row rooms are very nice. If you are a family ask for connected rooms, they are great. Good food at a resonable price compared to other beach locations. We will be back.

We (me, husband and 8 year old son) stayed at NT2 for 7 nights from March 30 to April 6 2010, we had stayed 6 nights at Ayara Villas in Bang Niang prior to this. I booked the resort on the advice from another Khao Lak website and I am so glad I did. I booked 2 connecting rooms (top floor) with a sea view. Both rooms were very spacious and clean with large bathrooms and a balcony, one rooom had a king bed and the other 2 singles. There is no tea and coffee making facilities which was a little disconcerting at first but surprisingly easy to become used to, I have read other reviews where visitors had requested a kettle, cups etc which were brought to the room immediately.
I paid approx $130 Australian for the two rooms which was an absolute bargain especially given it was still the 'high season'. The resort does not include a buffet breakfast in the tariff but this hardly matters as the restaurant has an extensive breakfast menu and is very cheap. Overall the food is excellent, we chose to eat dinner at the resort on a number of nights. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The manager, Ae, especially so. The grounds are immaculate with beautiful flowering plants and is very well tended. The pool is on the smaller side but is more than adequate, the beach front is especially pretty and at night some of the palm tree's have fairy lights wrapped around their trunks which was lovely. The massages next door rate a mention, very very good. NT2 is in a great spot, just a short walk from the main road in Khao Lak but also far away enough from the nightlife to feel secluded. Overall we were very impressed with Nang Thong 2, so much so that I have already booked 10 days for January 2011.

My family stayed for 6 nights, I have a 10 month old baby, a 4 year old and a 2 year old. The place is rather layed back without all the bells and whistles that most resorts have, but after 2 days of accepting that my room didnt have a phone in it or kettle or cups to make tea or coffee, I got into the swing of things and totally fell in love with the place. We had amazing views of the ocean, the restaurant is right on the beach, the pool is good as well as pool bar. Room service is available however you need to walk to restaurant first to order, little things like that annoyed me on the first day being tired from the trip with little kids. The hotel staff speak very little english but are extremely polite and are all fantastic with children. THis place is a little paradise. We will be going back for longer in a couple of years. There are little restaurants along the beach and up the main street, all very cheap and good tasty food. If you want a taste of thailand without the sleeze and many tourists go to Khao Lak. Good sea to swim in. This place is perfect for young families!

We stayed here with friends & family and had a wonderful time. The beachfront bungalows were immaculate, clean, good size and definitely beachfront. It was a pleasure to sit on our verandah and watch the sunset. Pool was good, staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was very good quality and reasonably cheap for a hotel restaurant. We used the little bike with 'sidecar' a couple of times to go to the main road and shopping area (free of charge, ridden by one of the staff). We were there in low season so we basically had the hotel to ourselves which was lovely. The gardens were beautiful and well maintained. Would definitely recommend for a quiet, laid-back holiday especially after the hustle and bustle of Patong. Would happily go back there again.

I've been a long-time friend of Khao Lak and the nearby businesses. In fact, we know the owners of this hotel...but that will not stop me from being honest.

I stayed at this resort shortly after it was rebuilt after the devastating tsunami. Of course the rooms were new and the staff was grateful to be back to work. But the management has failed to provide the same quality of service and accomadations as before.

We rented a beachfront bungalow for the low-season rate of 1500 baht, without breakfast. The room was run-down and musty of mold. The window panes were dirty and moldy. The air conditioner did little to cool the room and likely needed an overhaul. The outdoor bath/shower was a nice feature, but you were unable to shower if its was raining outside, which it often does in August. The bed sheets were no longer 'white' and appeared dingy. The pillows were horrible and only two provided. There was no TV or internet access for late-night watching. Most good hotels here provide a TV/DVD player...as movies are easily purchased here underground.

And here's the kicker!!!

We were traveling with our newborn (5 weeks) and had set up a baby cot and settled into our room. The staff was aware of this as they helped us. Then, at 7pm on our second night, a staff member arrived at our sliding glass door, while my wife was breastfeeding, to inform us that a "return customer" is arriving tomorrow and requested this bungalow so we would have to move. UNBELIEVABLE!!! By the way, I'm a return customer, too!!! So, this is how they treated their guest. I told the staff member fine, that we would move in the morning. What they didn't expect was that we MOVE OUT! See my other recent review to see where we went.

So, if you want solid accomodations without fear of being kicked out to another room for a 'better' guest, then stay away from this place. We love the owners and the staff was friendly, but they've lost touch on true customer satisfaction.

BTW, the new hotel we went to was FAR better and not that much more money.

We love Nang Thong Beach, but the hotelier needs to revamp their service. And paint the walls in the rooms, change the sheets, clean out the mold and provide a breakfast.
