“Just Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2011

Firstly: BEWARE of the taxi driver outside the hotel. I had enjoyed my stay in the JW Marriot Hotel, Khao Lak. The staff were nice, brilliant rooms!! and pretty much everything else was perfect. Good food in the Restaurants: Premrudi (Thai) and Antonio's (Italian) restaurants outside the hotel in the small plaza. Would really recommend to stay in this hotel!

This resort offers you all pleasures of life. Green territory, awesome beach, spacious room and bathroom. Breakfast buffet is very rich and various. The spa is fantastic and absolutely worth its money. The restaurants of the hotel are not cheap but not too expensive either and the food was very good, I especially appreciated BBQ night (all you can eat for around 30 Euro is really a great deal with all their lobsters, crabs and tiger prawns!) I can mention only two weak points. The first is the staff speaking very poor English. This was quite a negative surprise. The second is the room cleaning. It was clean but some maids did their job worse than the others. It happened a couple of times when things were not systemized well but overall nothing bad to comment. If you want to have a relaxing classy stay go for this resort. If you want to go to the center of the town you have to take a taxi but we never went as had everything we needed inside.

Room Tip: pool access room is nice

We have really enjoyed our stay at the JW Khao Lak. From the minute we walked into the hotel the staff has been so friendly and helpful. The suites are spacious and very good for a family of 4. The restaurants at the property are a bit expensive, but the restaurants on the beach next to the resorts are really nice so for cheaper options it is worth to visit those.

The breakfast is great! Huge variation. The waitress Nuch is a star. We hope the hotel takes good care of her. She really looks after her guests. Every morning she has given our little boy his favourite fruit and make sure we have enough coffee.

The beach boys who looks after the bar and service at the beach is also great. Walks around and fills up your glass all day with water, fresh towels and makes sure the place looks clean.

One thing we did not like is that the water has jelly fish which burns, that meant we have mostly used the pool. We never got stinged, but several other on the beach got a burn. It is not dangerous and the hotel medical staff looks after you if something happens. It is reasureing that they have a nurse on site.

We also like the lunches very much. Huge selection and something for everyone.
The hotel has a deli, but the selection there could be so much better. I know for a fact a lot of the hotel guests goes to the 7/11 store next to the hotel to buy small things, since the Deli is expensive and has a rather small selection of snacks and drinks.

The pool is really something. Many km long, and great for children. Huge plus for the hotel.
All in all we recommend this place if you are going to Khao Lak.
One small tip at the end; for Thai-massage you should try the Silk Spa -located on the road, next to the main drive entrance of the JW hotel. It is a small place, have 4 girls there who do such a great job. Much better to lie there than on the beach where it is so hot and in the evening has lots of mosqitos. Ask for a girl name Noi, she is the best. Never had such a good thai-massasge in my life.

If you choose this hotel- ENJOY!

Sadly our stay here coincided with a very large Indian Wedding that was taking place.  The wedding spanned 3 days and consumed the majority of the Marriott's facilities.  The  best views and locations by the pool and beach were inaccessible - unless you were a part of the wedding.  The beach and pool were unusuable ad you couldn't hear yourself think because the wedding music was blaring through loudspeakers.  It's a shame that Marriott would choose to turn their resort that has won Trip Advisor's "rest and relaxation" award into such a circus for 3 days.  Truly a dissapointing stay in Thailand.

I wrote a review about a month ago, but when I tried to submit, there's an error and it's gone, since then, I still feel obliged to write something about this Resort.
We got the deal from a website, the price was very good, although later I found the resort is not really on the Phuket island. It's about 70km north to the HKT Airport. Nice place, hit hard by the tsunami in 2004, but it's recovered gradually, you can still find some ruin about 10 minutes north to the resort.
We didn't find any public transportation from HKT to the resort, so we decided to book the car rental before we left home. You can find some links from the HKT website. It's a small Toyota auto at fair rental price, pick up just outside the terminal. The road from airport to the highway is pretty narrow, and you will drive on the left side of the road - like in UK, so be careful. It took us about 1.5 hours to get there, you will pass a quite crowded town in the midway, and lots of scooters. When you see the JW Marriott sign, turn left and after a few minutes on the paveway, turn right, pass the security, you're in the resort.
Parking is free, staff will take care of the luggage and send to your room. The lobby in the main multi-function building has receiption desk to take care of your check-in, tourist info and excursion. Outside, there about about 3 rows of buildings between the main building and the beach. All buildings are 2 or 3 storeys, so most first floor guest rooms have access to the longest circular pool around the buildings, and 2nd or 3rd floor rooms have balconies to overlook the pool.
The room is big, well decorated, Southeast Asian Zen style. Wash room is also big and nice looking, with two basins, separate shower and toilet. The bath tub is huge. We're very satisfied with the lighting, colour and furniture in the room, and big flat-panel TV. The free wifi is somehow weak, only certain spots in the room have signal, which is not really important since we're on vacation.
The whole resort is clean and quiet, include the beach, you can always find a chair to lay down, listen to the wave and enjoy the sunshine. Outside the south end of the beach, there is an independent bar, restaurant and massage shop - Farmai, it's a very nice place to have dinner and see the beautiful sunset on the Indian Ocean.
Breakfast is perfect as well, the hall is close to the beach just behind the palm trees and paveway. They have everything you want to eat/drink in the morning; it is somehow even better than in the hotel we stayed in Bangkok, because of the weather I think. We had two-hour breakfast almost everyday when we're there.
One hint for the beach lovers, the nearest washrooms are in the basement under the waterfront breakfast hall.
The resort also has its own Quan spa, another restaurant along the beach and a Thai restaurant. In the main building you can also find some other facilities like convenient shop, bar, gym, children's play room and seminar rooms.
We loved the beach, loved swimming in the circular pool under the golden sunshine in a warm afternoon. We tried massage in Quan spa and Thai food which are also in the package. We also joined a excursion to the James-Bond-Island, and surprisingly the guide can speak English and Deutsch.
Rent a car is a very good decision if you don't just want to stay all the time in the resort.
If there is a chance, we will definitely go back and stay there again.

Room Tip: Tell staff if you want a pool access room or else.

One of the best hotels i have been to! what a amazing hotel. Nice staff, not more than 10 minutes drive to the Khao Lak city center. Also easy access to shops in the new plaza next door Khao Lak Village, which has lots of shops, Recommend to go and eat in the Premrudi Thai Restaurant in the Khao Lak Village

We had a wonderful time here, it is an amazing resort which maintains its standard, the beach is beautiful and you can walk long distance on soothing sand.
The layout is great, and feels lovely, not to forget the loong pool which adds to the beauty.
Also, breakfast is another story it its own, huge and also had some indian food, loved it :)
Also, there are several beach side shacks and massage shops, also a small plaza opened on gate recently, we had good pizza in the plaza.
Overall, recommend it, would definitely love to go back ..

Room Tip: Pool access rooms are great !
