“Nice resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

Very nice resort. A bit surprised by the (somewhat hidden) jellyfish warning sign on the beach. Staff generally nice and acceptable in English proficiency. Cafe Lilawadee breakfast was a bit of a disappointment (acceptable but not really what I expected for the much hyped Le Meridien Signature Breakfast) - pain au chocolat was one of the best I've ever had though (warm, flaky and chocolaty). Transfer service is worth it for the 1h30m drive to Phuket International Airport: friendly driver and new vehicles.

Just wished they could emphasize more on the fine details. When we arrived, some tom yum peanuts were on the desk. These were amazing. However, in following nights, we didn't receive anything extra for turnover service, etc.

Dear Thetravelleringhker,

Thanks for writing you review on TripAdvisor.

"Little things mean a lot" so thank you for your recommendations regarding looking at the finer details - our Executive Housekeeper has already taken this on board and is including this in his daily 40 minute briefings. Please let me know where we may send you the recipe of the Tom Yum Peanuts so that you can continue to enjoy "a taste of the Le Meridien Khao lak Beach & Spa Resort" and hopefully we can welcome you back to Paradise in the not too distant future.

We stayed 6 nights in this hotel, overall a great stay - friendly staff, good Thai food and breakfast, beautiful beach and pool. To stay in Pool Villa and paid a little extra was a good decision we made, bigger room space and a small but sweet private pool made our stay enjoyable.
In addition a young guy named Aronso in breakfast restaurant was the highlight among the team, he was always polite and smile to everyone walking into the restaurant - you feel really great at the begining of the day! Normally he work split shift so that's good we can meet him again in dinner restaurant. He couldn't speak fluent English but you can feel his warm welcoming and hospitality and its natural.
Spa was fabulous! We had twice thai massage and a hot stone on last day, all great! We loved the therapists, they are very professional and well trained.
Areas can be improved?:
We were surprised about the hotel resturants and dining arrangement - only the restaurant Bamboo was opened for lunch? and only one for dinner too...?? Because of low season??
Local information was not clearly provided to guests - e.g. local market, shuttle bus station, hotel activities...
AC unit noise from villa next door
Private pool overflow drainage also made noise
Pool chairs in villa courtyard were so dirty and mildewed
Breakfast selection - we ate the same food for 6 days, didn't notice any different daily
Menu translation - Lucky we understand English... some Chinese translation on menus were incorrect, especially breakfast tentcard
Laundry should pay more attention on cleaning stained towel, both in room and beach
Shuttle bus driver should bring/store enough umbrella on the bus
However the flaws do not detract from the great memory we had in this hotel, highly recommended.

Dear Cherryapollo,

Thanks for your review, indeed very interesting points, especially your observation about providing sufficient umbrellas on the bus and the fact that our Chinese translations were incorrecct - little things do mean a lot!

I will pass on your words of praise to Aronso, who is really one of our stars in our F & B service department.

Certainly, we shall improve our variety of food and beverage during our Green Season and will also make sure that improvements are made in all other areas.

We look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy, rejuvenate and recharge again!!

Best wishes

My husband and I spent 11 days in this beach resort when the high season was over. I believe it could be quite full and noisy during the peak season. If you select early May, there are less guests, peace at the breakfast buffet but showers in the afternoons. Monsoon rains in early May are short and a nice experience. The rooms are comfortable and spacious with sea or garden views. The lovely meandering pools add more to the resort's beauty. The beach is simply a dream, very private with a long stretch for a lovely daily walk. Restaurants are good but evening meals are relatively expensive. If you like Thai food, in the little town of Khao Lak (15 -20 minutes drive) you find many good restaurants for less money. On recommendation we often ate at Smile, run by a Frenchman, with no regrets. We did not use Spa facilities in the hotel because, once again on recommendation, we had a few soothing massages in a salon run by a Swiss, right next to Smile. The hotel offers taxis and a shuttle service. The shuttle service starts only at 5.30 pm. Hotel taxis are available at all times. Friendly staff and good service.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room, very spacious. If you are willing to be extravagant, the bungalows look...

We had an amazing deal through Travel Zoo and if we're honest we weren't expecting much but it was such a brilliant short stay. I've read some reviews that advise that the hotel is ageing a bit and I can see what they mean, but only if you're worried about the wooden side boards in your room having a few scrapes. They are still super clean, the bed is huge and so comfy it's ridiculous! The pools are really big and clean but the real delight are the sun beds on the sandy white beach. It was so blissful. Another highlight is Wandi the resident baby elephant who seems to be treated very well and just wanders around the pool, drinking from the showers and mingling with the guests. If you want a short break then this is a great hotel.

Loved everything about this hotel apart from the cost of a basic glass or bottle of wine, how does 10 pounds a glass and a small one at that grab you, Or £50 per basic bottle.
Great hotel, spotlessly clean! Breakfasts are amazing, room service fab. Reception were very efficient and pleasant. Experience by the adult and family pools were great as well as service at the beach.
The only time the bars were busy was at Happy
hour and that was that! They need to rethink their strategies! Pure greed!
If you visit any of the beach bars close by you can buy a bottle of Sauvignon blanc for less than ten pounds.
Not all the restaurants were open , tended to be only one per night so not a great choice and although we dined in three of the restaurants they were nothing to write home about.
Apart from that we had a relaxing stay and met some lovely people.

Wonderful hotel - highly recommend it!! Beautiful decor, beautiful beach, great imaginative pools with very warm water and tons of places in the pool to just sit and enjoy or swim around day or night, and it's so big that it does not feel crowded at all. There's also a fun section for the kids but adults can enjoy it too. The adult pool was kind of boring and although it was nice and quiet and right outside our room, we did not go in because the main pool/s was so much fun. The hotel is very relaxed about beach towels and provides them without any hassle which is a big plus in my eyes (not the case in some other hotels).

Our room was a regular garden view room, but it felt quite luxurious, very spacious, very nicely decorated, clean with lots of towels and all sorts of amenities (robes and slippers included) and very attentive staff. All you have to do is ask for something and it's there in a minute. Plenty of counter space too in the room and the bathroom which makes it so much more convenient. We got four free bottles of water in the room each day. The free wi-fi was only available in the lobby, at least for us.

We had breakfast in the hotel each day and we loved it! I read some people's complaints that the food was the same every day and that's true, but there are so many choices that you can eat something different for days without having to repeat the same breakfast so I really did not understand the complaint. Also, we had breakfast at different times during the breakfast window and the food was fresh and plentiful at all times.

The hotel also has a baby elephant, I think Wandee is his name. He walks around with his trainer and is very, very cute. You can pet him, feed him, take pictures. We assumed that we were to tip the trainer, mahout, if we interacted with Wandee so we did, but I did not see if other people did too. We did not mind as it was such a nice experience each time. Wandee also seemed to be treated well - I did not see him perform any tricks (he swayed a bit and slightly bowed, but was not made to do anything else - I loved that) and he only showed up twice a day. I would like to think that he was resting the remainder of the day and not working in other hotels.

The hotel restaurants are quite expensive, so we ended up eating at a places down the beach. If you are facing the ocean, the place on the left is a quick and very pleasant 5 min walk on the beach. At night there are lights on the beach and it feels very safe. The food was excellent and the family that operates it speaks good English and besides running a restaurant, offers other services. We booked a tour to Similan islands with them for 1900 baht/person (vs. 2700 baht at the hotel). Even the hotel tour operator told us that it was the exact same tour, they just have to pay the rent for the space at the hotel plus a percentage of the profit. We also ordered a taxi to take us to the airport the last day (1400 b vs. 1800 b on our way in). Both times they came to pick us up on time and everything was in perfect order. I think they also provide laundry service but we did not need it. There are also places on the other side of the beach, perhaps 10-15 min walk which are good for during a day (we had a nice lunch, a massage and I got a pedicure one day), but it did not seem to be safe at night because the beach lights stop at the end of the hotel property and there is a trench to cross which may be tricky at night. Whichever place you choose, make sure you arm yourself with an insect repellent.

Overall, great experience - we would definitely come back if we had an opportunity again.

Dear Ann7544,

Really nice to read your comments about your stay at the le Meidien Khao Lak Beach& Spa Resort.
Yes, Wandee, our elephant is very popular and she loves being spoilt and she loves the attention she gets from both kiddies and parents. I can assure you the times that she is not at the beach or on the lawn she is indeed resting - there are no other duties for her other than these twice a day visits.

I really do hope that we can welocme you back and thank you for your very kind words about your stay and our Resort.

My family and I spent ten days here in April and had an amazing time. The rooms were extremely comfortable and clean. The staff cannot do enough for you. There were enough sun beds at all times. It ticked all the boxes and more. A huge thank you to all of the staff who made our holiday memorable.
