“A little piece of heaven on earth!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We have just spent 10 nights at Khao Lak Resort in Thailand and it's the best family holiday we have ever had. My husband, our two daughters, 18 and 19, and I, loved every minute of our stay and are sad to have had to leave yesterday afternoon. We had a bungalow by the pool and overlooking the sea, which offered everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed trips elephant trekking, canoeing, to James Bond Island and to the local turtle conservation project. The only poor trip was to Phuket and we were thrilled to return to Khao Lak Resort after that. We did a cookery course at the resort, which was really good fun and offered value for money. We ate at the resort and also at a number of restaurants in Khao Lak village. There are many good local restaurants, including a rustic little restaurant just along the beach from the resort called Peter's Bar. You can also get a massage just next to this restaurant, which is excellent and great value. Everything about the resort is good, but I think what sets it apart is the friendliness of the staff. Without exception they were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. It really does make a massive difference to a holiday when you find this. It was low season and consequently everywhere was that much quieter, which we really enjoyed. I would certainly go back again in low season and would definitely choose Khao Lak Resort. The local markets are worth going to, and although we didn't get mopeds these were fairly cheap to hire and we think we would do this if we went again. Khao Lak area is an absolutely beautiful part of the world and feels extremely friendly and safe for all ages of people. We cannot recommend it enough: it's the best family holiday we have ever had by a long way. Our rating for the spa is because the spa was actually closed due to refurbishment work and treatments took place in a hotel room. These were good, but it would have been nice to visit the spa. Also, we didn't do any children's activities, so can't comment on these. All I can say is that all the children staying at the resort seemed very happy with the place. Thanks to all the staff there for making it so memorable.

Dear Khun Loopylou12,

Many thanks for your heartwarming review on Tripadvisor concerning Khaolak Resort. All members of our staff are absolutely thrilled with your feedback. It can only serve as an encouragement for them to continue putting in their best efforts in maintaining this service level to all our guests here.
We are also delighted to learn that you are very happy with your rooms as well as the extra activities, such as cooking classes, provided.
Unfortunately the hotel will be closed for expansion work from April-October 2014. We are targeting to resume operations on November 1, 2014. We look forward to your return visit to Khaolak Resort and permit me the opportunity to welcoming you back here. We should by then also have our new spa facilities up and running for all our guests.
I am sure you will find the expanded hotel equally interesting and charming. Thank you again for your kind comments.
Warmest Regards.

We just got back from 7 days at Khaolak Resort and highly recommend you choose it as your holiday accommodation. It is amazing. It's beautifully kept, the rooms are tasteful and super comfortable. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to the Pool Villa - which is an experience you should definitely try if you can. The pool is a couple of steps from your double front doors - and the beach is only a few steps further it is absolutely peaceful and such a great place to do nothing but read, eat and sleep. The happy hour at 5 is a must! There aren't too many people around and the cocktails are cheap and delicious.

The bungalows look fantastic and the ones facing the beach have a verandah for your sunset viewing - and back onto the giant pool that winds its way through the resort.

There were lots of families staying there but I think because it was low season the crowds just weren't there - which was fantastic.
The buffet breakfast has a good choice and everything is really fresh and delicious!

We ate lunch at the villa each day and ordered room service - which is so cheap and fresh and presented beautifully. For dinner we wandered 20 metres along the beach to Peter Bar, a casual bamboo restaurant under the coconut trees. You can also try the town, but honestly - it is a bit tired and there are no choices better than Peter Bar that we found.

The staff are also a major attraction at this resort. Every single one of them was friendly and expert at their jobs - we felt nothing was too much to ask and the whole place just has a relaxed, professional feel to it.

I'd go back in a flash!

Room Tip: The pool villa is stunning!

KHAO LAK RESORT IS THE BEAUTIFUL RESORT I EVER BEEN IN THAILAND . We stayed in resort 7 nights and everything was perfect. The staff is brilliant, you feel really Thai hospitality. We have been upgraded to ocean view bungalow and it was breathtaking views and we enjoyed every minute. The pool bar is exellent and do their best. We just felt like at home. The only little problem was the hot war. My child likes to do bath and after 10 minuts the hot water was finished and appear again only after 40 minutes. We mooved to another room but it has the same problem. Any way it is the best resort in the area and we hope to come back the next year.

We just arrived back from our 8 Night stay in Khao Lak Resort and it was absolutely amazing. The location of the resort couldn't be any better, the jungle atmosphere right on the beach and a 10 minute walk from the local village with restaurants, bars and shopping stalls. The resort itself is lovely, blends in well with the environment and is kept to brilliant standards. We stayed in a Deluxe Bungalow which was fabby, felt like our own little home with a perfect view of the pool and beach. Due to the low season it was relatively quiet so had no problem getting any loungers by the pool. It rained a lot the first few days but you can't let that get in the way of your stay. We had great fun staying in the pool when it poured. We had breakfast every morning in the resort which had a great selection of food. We also had dinner in the Malila Restaurant which again offered a great selection of food and took advantage of 'happy hour' at both Malila and Pool Salsa. The staff were so lovely and always there to help you or just a generally chat. I definitely recommend the Resort to all.

Just back from 8 nights at Khao Lak Resort. We were upgraded to a deluxe bungalow (215) which looked out onto the pool and also views of the sea. The bungalow is spacious and very comfortable with a huge comfy bed. The bathroom was also large with a corner bath (which we relaxed in together every evening) and a lovely shower. I would have preferred opaque glass on the bathroom windows or better blinds as I was initially concerned about the fit of the curtains and whether anyone could see me sitting on the loo! However, I soon chilled out.
The breakfast was very good with a nice selection. We had a complementary dinner in the Malila restaurant the first night which was excellent and we ate dinner there on several other evenings.
We made use of the happy hour at the Sala Pool bar, but my favourite cocktail was the frozen margarita which wasn't included in the happy hour selection.
I liked the fact it was the low season as we quite often had the pool to ourselves and there were always loads of sun loungers available.
We had a free 30 minute massage in our package and although the main spa is closed for refurbishment we still had a relaxing massage. We asked if we could have the massage together and they were able to accommodate us. It was so good we booked an hour massage for our last day.
We were really lucky with the weather as it was sunny the whole 8 days, with just some rain in the night. The sea was way to rough to swim or even paddle really.
Location is excellent with the village being an easy walk for shopping or other eating and drinking options.
The grounds are fabulous and really well established. You almost feel you are staying in the middle of the rainforest.
Last but not least the staff without exception were wonderful, efficient and very friendly with a wonderful sense of humour.
Don't make the mistake of thinking the room slippers are free as we did - it was a bit embarrassing having to fish them out of our suitcases just before we left :)

Room Tip: Deluxe bungalow 207 is not in a brilliant location so avoid if possible. Personally I think the poo...

Dear Khun Angel57,

Thank you very much for the lovely feedback on Khaolak Resort that you have recently posted on Tripadvisor. All members of the staff here are truly delighted with your favourable comments on your 8 day stay with us. Apart from the resort’s lovely ambience, friendly staff and good food, I am sure the fine weather also played a part in making your stay here that much more enjoyable. I am also glad that you find your upgraded room to your liking. Thank you very much for choosing Khaolak Resort as your holiday destination!

I am sorry about the incident concerning room slippers on check-out. In future we will have to see that our guests are informed of this condition on check-in and hopefully prevent a repeat of the embarrassment you experienced; once again my sincere apologies. We will improve on this process.

Finally, I hope that you will find time to re-visit Thailand again in the near future and that Khaolak Resort remains always at your service, should you decide to repeat your stay here with us.
Warmest regards,

Just returned from a 14 night stay at this amazing hotel! On arrival at the hotel, we were welcomed by smiling faces, fresh fruit juices and wet cloths to freshen up. We were then driven down the hill to our beach front deluxe bungalow. As it was dark, we couldn't yet appreciate the beauty of the hotel grounds and the tropical jungle surroundings.
On entering the bungalow, we were totally amazed at the size of the room and the size of the bath! Never seen a bath this big!! The bungalow was fully facing the beach and to lay in bed listening to the sound of the waves was amazing.
Sala pool bar/restaurant was a minute away from the room, served excellent food at decent prices. Breakfast in the Malila restaurant offered numerous choices and was always well stocked and run very efficiently. Reception staff were always helpful with our several questions on the local area and places to go. We were provided with vouchers on arrival for complimentary massages, and as my husband does not like massages, I made full use of these. The staff really are a credit to this hotel! The several small touches by the staff made staying at KLR a very happy experience, eg from the reception staff allowing us to keep our room on for an extra 3 hours free of charge to providing bottles of water (did not request these) whilst waiting on our departure transfer.
As the hotel is pretty much in the jungle, we saw much wildlife including 3 different types of lizards, several species of frogs, several fish, etc. KLR definitely has the best location - the hotel being in the jungle, right on a beautiful sandy beach but also only a ten minute walk to the nearest restaurants and bars.
We done several trips which were all amazing including 3 temples tour, elephant trekking and kayaking at Khao Sok National Park, Tsunami Museum and boat, jungle trek at Lam Ru National Park and also a shopping and sightseeing tour to Phuket.
Khao Lak is the polar opposite to Phuket and after visiting Phuket which we found far too busy and sleazy with all the go-go bars, we knew we had definitely made the correct choice by going to Khao Lak.
Although the weather was not that great with the several very lengthy torrential downpours (which we were advised was unusual as these are normally short bursts of rain), our stay at KLR was amazing and would highly recommend this resort and hotel.

Room Tip: Recommend deluxe beachfront bungalow.

Dear Khun Sharon M,

Thank you for choosing Khaolak Resort as your holiday destination on your recent trip to Thailand. Many thanks also for your extremely positive feedback on our resort. All members of our staff are thrilled with it! I am sure, this will be a stimulus for them to maintain and perhaps even improve on this standard of service.
I am also glad to learn that you find our restaurant’s food to your liking.
I am sorry about the weather conditions that prevailed during your stay. Yes, we did have more than our fair share of rain for that time of the year. Perhaps it is an extension of the rather harsh winter condition that Europe had to endure earlier this year and is the passing through or “tail-end” of that extreme weather? Hopefully it will be less severe as we progress towards the 3rd quarter of 2013.
Finally, thank you also for your favourable recommendation on Khaolak Resort in Tripadvisor. We hope that you will be able to find time to visit Thailand again soon and in the process, provide me with the opportunity to welcome you back to Khaolak Resort.

Warmest regards.

We have just got back yesterday from 12 nights at this wonderful resort,
Where shall I start with this review,
The Resort is set in jungle like surroundings along the beach front, with the bungalows at the front and then the pools with more bungalows set back in the jungle like suroundings and the superior rooms are further back.
We were upgraded to a deluxe bungalow (room 211) which was right in front of the pool and has a sea view as well. 2 sunbeds were right outside the room by the pool so we commandeered these for the whole time of our stay, sometimes it was like having your own private pool as the hotel was not full due to it being the low season. There are a further 2 pools with bungalows either side and then a further pool surrounded by trees. We had no problems with our room during our stay and it was cleaned everyday and the towels changed.

Breakfast's were really good with plenty of choice, omelettes and cooked fresh to order along with fried and boiled eggs, and tea and coffee is in plentiful supply.
We ate in the hotel 3 evenings and the food was amazing a little more than what you would pay if you went into town but it really was worth that little extra.
As it was the other half's birthday whilst we were there I booked the sunset beach meal, unfortunately due to the rain we had to cancel this really looked amazing and if you get the chance I really would do the sunset meal. But low and behold in the torrential storm one of the waiters from the main restaurant came to the pool salsa bar with a birthday cake for the other half, this really was a lovely touch.
Just a short stroll out of the resort to your right takes you into the town, just down the hill you will find some really good places to eat, Try Everyday 2, Sun sea & sand and Walkers.
To get to the market just jump in a taxi and it's a short ride away for 150 baht.
Just down from the market there is Mars Bar fantastic English style home cooked food. And a little further down is Hill tribes for some northern Thai food.

The staff are truly amazing they all work so hard and are always smiling, from the lady who swept the leaves up all day every day and the pool men who clean the pools everyday to all the restaurant and bar staff they are a credit to the hotel.

Right then the weather, as we went in the rainy (low Season) we knew we would get some rain, but it rained for 8 days out of 12. Some days it was non stop as there was a tropical storm at the time. We did not let the rain stop doing anything. We swam in the pool in the rain, went elephant trekking and bathing and also a trip to James Bond Island (would highly recommend this)
And its a god excuse to have some amazing Thai massages.
Oh and do not worry there are nice big umbrellas in the rooms

This Resort is non pretentious, laid back and truly relaxing we had a amazing time staying here and met some really nice people (there we lots of English people here when we stayed)
This was the other half's first time to Thailand and first long haul holiday and thanks to Khao Lak Resort he wants to do in again.

Hope you like all the photos.
