Chong Fah has been a resort that I have planned on visiting for a couple of years and we finally made it there at the start of the month. Khao Lak is a very quiet area an hour drive north from Phuket Airport and it's welcome break from the usual party attmosphere in Patong. The resort is situated directly beachfront and within walking distance of numerous restaurants and small bars. Many of these are shut during the low season however we were never at a loss as to finding somewhere different to eat.
The transfer from airport to resort was by local taxi at the airport and cost 2000Baht for 4 persons. Transfer took just over an hour.
On arrival our check-in was completed with a cool welcome drink of fruit punch and we were all presented with a garland of orchids and jasmine flowers. The resort is small and is built around the pool which looks out onto the beach. At this time of year the south west monsoon makes the seas very rough on the west coast of the Thai penninsular and not really suitable for swimming. A walk along the miles of deserted golden sand is however highly recommended.
The rooms are very spacious and have all the usual facilities. This includes free wireless Internet connection (something the larger resorts should include). Our room was of the Deluxe type and did not have a bathtub. The rain shower was however one of the most powerfull I have ever experienced. Higher standard rooms do have baths and jaccuzi but I believe them to be outdoor. Not ideal in the monsoon season with the frequent rain showers. Towels for the beach and pool are in your room and there are enough sun loungers for all guests located around the pool and along the beach front.
The resaurant was excellent and only slightly more expensive than other local places in the vicinity. Breakfast was very good. Eggs cooked to order and although it was buffet style they only put out small dishes of the food on offer and replenished them on a regular basis so that the choices were always fresh and hot. Both western and asian food was available and this included small sampler portions of some classic Thai dishes. On a Thursday evening they have a buffet dinner which I would certainly recommend. Price is 499Baht per person and the choices are superb. It included a variety of asian style cooking and although buffet many of the dishes were swiftly cooked to order. There is also a singing guitar player who will come to your table and serenade you while you eat. A very nice night. Prices for drinks are reasonable with local beer costing 90Baht and a small glass of house wine at 160Baht.
There are a few other hotels / resorts along the beach but only one beach bar / restaurant also called Chong Far. It is 2 minutes walk along the beach to the left of the resort and also has a couple of local massage ladies who charge 300Baht / hour for Oil Massage. It was very relaxing. The weather was suprisingly good while we were there and we only had one day of fairly continuous rain. It can be rather wet at this time of year. Altogether we loved our stay at Chong Fah and would recommend it highly as a quiet and peacefull resort with very friendly staff. None of them ever walk by without saying hello.

Check was efficient and friendly. Rooms were beautifully set up with little personal touches. The resort was immaculately maintained and very relaxing. Staff were extremely friendly and willing to cater for our every need. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Cocktail hour was a 'treat' each night as we looked at the beautiful beach view. We have nothing negative to say about our stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a small boutique resort in a lovely quiet location.

What a wee gem this resort is. A small boutique style resort with all the class of a larger resort. The service was fantastic, from the concierge services to the cleaning staff who timed the cleaning of your room perfectly..every time! A good location to sightsee and staff always helpful in choosing trips. We will be returning again!

This review is well overdue, (and I apologise to the Chong Fah, as it does not in any way reflect how we felt about your hotel); it was nearly a year ago that we stayed here! We had chosen the Chong Fah Beach Resort based on the opinions of other Tripadvisor members. We stayed here twice; the first time for 5 nights at the beginning of our trip and for another 2 nights at the end. The first time we were in a garden bungalow and the 2nd in a deluxe room. The quality and attention to detail is second to none, with every need catered for with a smile and a genuine friendliness. There were renovations going on in the reception area and the dining room was being used for staff training on our first visit. This meant that breakfast, ordered the night before, was delivered on trays to our bungalow terrace and that there was only room service available for any other food required. Consequently we ate out of an evening. Plenty of options nearby, some closed though, as Khao Lak was very quiet last June. On our second visit, the dining room was open again and the renovations completed. The quality of the breakfast buffet was very high. Lots of fresh choices and lots of refills!! Attentive, helpful staff at all times in every area of the hotel. This place is an absolute gem; we loved it and will forever compare all other establishments to the Chong Fah's high standards! We will be returning to the Khao Lak area again in July this year, and although we feel we should try somewhere else..........I just can't see that happening!! Why risk disappointment when you don't have to?

This resort is really a great place to stay. We are going to Khaolak every year and this is really the best place we stayed at.
The resort is rather small which really gives a cosy & warm atmosfeer.
The location is ideal: eventhough you are isolated from the noise & animation, everything is located walking distance (Local market, supermarket, beach restaurants, restaurants and bars).
The 'seaview' pool is just wonderful: you can stay hours just watching the sea (and the sunset).
There are lounge sofa's on the beach, which are very nice to enjoy at the end of the day, with a cocktail (very good), watching the sunset. (There's Happy hour for all cocktails - 'Buy 1 get 1 free' which is great as well).
The breakfast buffet is just gorgeous. Never had such a good one before.
Prices in the resort are very reasonable compared to other resorts (maybe also because we were 'Low season' ?), for drinks & food (lunch & diner).
We booked a Deluxe room & it was perfect for us. We have seen the Beachfront bungalows, except the jacuzzi & the outside rain shower it looks similar. Of course you have the view, while even from our room, the view was very nice.
We can only recommned this place & we are for sure going to comeback.

Have just returned from 13 days in Thailand the first 5 of which were spent at the Chong Fah resort, Khao Lak. We booked this resort because of its boutique size, reviews on Trip Advisor and excellent value for money.

We stayed in one of the 8 beach front bungalows with an unobstructed view over looking the beach & Andaman sea. Room was well appointed with an additional outdoor rain shower & spa bath. Our only complaint with the room was that as it was so hot at this time of year the aircon did struggle to cool down the room.

The resort also has a lovely wet edge pool from which you can have a two for one cocktail at happy hour (which is actually an hour & a half) or cool off & take in the spectacular sunset over the sea.

Had dinner at the resort 3 times & the food was good & prices were very reasonable, Thursdays nights Thai buffet was very good & exceptional value for 399Bht. We tried to have dinner one night at the Ramada, just down the beach, and although we did not try it their buffet which was 450Bht looked very average. Buffet breakfast was included in the room rate & consisted of a good selection of dishes including egg chef etc especially given that it only has about 30 rooms.

Another local restuarant that is well worth checking out is the Candle restuarant about 10 minutes walk from the resort, excellent food. If you want to spoil yourself we would recommend the Le Flora spa which is just a bit further along the beach. Althought very pricey by Thai standards the four hands massage is sensational.

We hired a motorbike for a couple of days (250Bht per day) and explored a bit of the local area but there is not a lot to see but the Chong Fah was a good place to relax & unwind.

Just left Chong Fah last week after spending 7 days there and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel & the great service. It is positioned ocean front and the beach has lovely white sand.
Great spot with plenty of restaurants and massages close by.
Meals at the hotel were pretty reasonably priced, but we only ate there once at night as there were lots of other little local places to sample in the street. It was a 5 min Taxi ride to Khao Lak centre, but really there is not much in the centre of Khao Lak, just a few touristy shops and more restaurants...very quiet place, so if you just want to relax and do not much more then you will like it there.
We booked a beach front bungalow but the waves were so violent at night thruout our stay (they literally shook the ground) I was a little freaked out being that our room was so close to the waters edge, and given the history of Khao lak. I think it would have been more comforting being on the 1st floor further back.
Price wise Chong Fah was pricey. We had to move to Ramada ( 5 mins walk up the beach) because Chong Fah was booked out ,and Ramada was Beautiful and a fraction of the cost. If I had my choice again I would stay at Ramada over Chong Fah on the basis of cost and beach being rougher in front of Chong Fah. (The beach was not as bad outside Ramada and there was bigger beach area there)
All in all lovely boutique hotel, great service, but better value for money down the road.
