“Stayed here before Kilimanjaro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

I stayed here with a group of people prior to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. We stayed the night before the climb and the night after the climb. The staff here and the service was wonderful. We really enjoyed the amenities of the hotel. It felt so good to have a warm shower after getting back from the mountain. The food here is very good as well - we all came here after visiting an orphanage in Kenya so it was wonderful food to us. It is really hidden away down some small narrow streets but a wonderful stay. Thanks!

Although down a rather dodgy lane, this property was truly an "oasis". Thatched-roof huts and stilt houses, all in a beautiful garden setting. The staff, especially Elly (Max, who took us on his day off to the markets) went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Although basically a set menu for dinner, the food was delicious, and served on time (they ask you to choose your menu beforehand so they can provide this service). Can definitely recommend this as value-for-money

Room Tip: Ask for a thatched hut if you don't like climbing stairs, but the stilt house rooms seemed a lit...

We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of our safari and one night at the end. We were in two different types of rooms, for our first two nights we were in an elevated room on stilts next to the parking lot. This room was quite chilly at night and was very noisy starting early morning with people walking by. The last night we were in one of the Bomas. This room was much quieter and not as cold. If given the choice, we would definitely prefer one of the Bomas. Both types of rooms were clean and comfortable.

Make sure you bring mosquito repellent. Our first visit we did not have any problems but at the end of our safari there were quite a few in our room. Also, bring ear plugs because there must be a mosque nearby as the calls to prayer start VERY early.

The hotel grounds are very lush and relaxing. They even have a resident crane and very sweet/calm dog. The dog roams freely but is very friendly and was nice since we were missing our dogs at home. The lounge is a nice area to hang out and watch whatever is on tv, since there are none in the rooms.

The food here was hit or miss. The breakfast has made to order eggs, bacon, sausage, crepes, and various fruit which was good. The first dinner we had steak and pork chops which were both almost jerky. The next time we ordered hamburgers which were very good. The Masai nachos were also good and quite filling.

The staff here is wonderful and will do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. One thing to keep in mind, you are not in the US. Things in Africa are different and may not be what you are used to, keep that in mind and go with the flow and you will be much happier. For instance, the hotel frequently has power outages (common in Africa) they have a generator to keep everything going, but non-necessities like wi-fi will not work in that situation.

We did not leave the hotel except with our safari guide, it doesn't seem the type of place that would be comfortable. The hotel is in a residential area where local people are going about their daily lives. Never did we feel threatened or unsafe, but it is not in an area where you will see many tourists walking around leaving the hotel.

We stayed in L'Oasis lodge as part of a safari - great place to relax pre or post safari. They'll do airport transfers, they have a great food menu, the best wifi I found in Tanzania, and their staff are so warm and welcoming. The manager is really friendly and is always on hand - he even dropped us off at Kili airport personally at the crack of dawn. Definitely recommend a stay here if you are in the area.

This lodge came highly recommended by our travel agent that we booked our safari through. While we did enjoy our stay here, the times that our flights landed and departed led to a bit of confusion about our check-in and check-out times.

We landed at 3:40am in Kilimanjaro so by the time we went through customs and made the trip to the lodge it was around 5am. We did not want to wait until their actual check-in time so we decided to just pay for an extra night so we could shower and sleep as soon as we arrived. This was not an issue at all, we got there and were immediately brought to our room. When we arrived back from our safari we stayed one more night and then were scheduled to fly out the next day at 6pm. We were planning to leave the lodge at 3pm and were under the impression that we could keep our room for the extra time. At 11:30am there was a knock on our door, a lady (we assume she was the manager or owner, although she never introduced herself) told us we needed to leave the room or pay for an extra night. So we had to bring our luggage to the reception desk and sit in the lounge for 4 hours while we waited for our driver to pick us up for the airport.

We just thought it was a little rude that we paid for an extra night the first night and then were made to leave our room at exactly check out time. I could understand the issue if all of the other rooms were full and they had to get our room ready for new guests but we only saw 2 other couples and one family while we were there.

Overall, the experience was good, but we would probably find somewhere new to stay next time.

This hotel is in a poor area, we did not feel safe to leave the compound. We had some sort o loud exorcism going on in a neighbouring property until after 3 am, this also kept the neighbourhood dogs barking all night. The local Mosque the started the call to prayer around 4:45 am.

Our hut was very basic and the bed was not made up for us, also the mosquito net was not big enough to cover the bed.

I could not in all honesty recommend this place as a good place to stay

I stayed 2 evenings at L'Oasis and was pleasantly surprised by the rooms, the food and the service. Everyone was very nice, very helpful and very quick to respond to any requests. The food is good and very inexpensive. Drinks are also inexpensive. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The bathrooms were also in good working order and clean. Internet is also fast and free. I'd recommend it.
