“Nice Starting Point for Safari...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2011

This lodge is immaculately maintained and it looks really pretty, it does the job perfectly as a stopover for one night before your safari begins.

The service was not amazing and the food was ok - we did see better Serena Lodges as our safari continued (they seemed to get better and better as we went along!) but I would certainly recommend it as a starting point for your safari.

My first experience in East Africa. Arriving to Kilimanjaro Airport, arrived to this beautiful hotel, has all the style of a manor and the rooms, developed in bungalow style are very comfortable. The view looking to Lake Diluti is marvelous, The most important aspect the service provided by all the staff in all the areas of the hotel.

We stayed just one night at the Serena Mountain Village Inn, upon our arrival to Tanzania. The grounds are spectacular, the Inn is beautiful and the staff are super friendly. I wanted to stay there longer because they made us feel so good, but we needed to head off to safari!

Though the last stretch of the road from tarmac to the lodge was a bumpy ride arriving was a pleasure. It was late in the evening but we got all the attention one can wish. The Serena welcome with towel and drink and a very nice cabin with as we saw the next morning view on the lake. A well kept beautifull garden. We made on sunday an excursion to two markets offered at a reasonable rate by our transferdriver. Impressive was the drink in the old garden in front of the hotel and diner was as is usual in Serena very good. Monday morning after breakfast we were welcomed by our guide/driver for the week Josefat from Leopard Tours and the nice first impression was an introduction to a tremendous week in Tanzania. Asante sana

We stayed there after our flight from Amsterdam, so we arrived quite late and didn't stay long since we left next morning for Tarangire. Rooms are beautiful, so are the surroundings, people are nice. As a honeymoon gift we had a personalized letter and a cake.
Minus: mosquito net didn't close so was worthless; payments were made out 1000 shillings = 1$ = 1€ which is a bit of a robbery; during breakfast we asked for coffee with milk and they gave us a latte (you must pay it as an extra); cold cuts were not so good though fresh fruit was tasty.

The Serena properties we visited in Tanzania are satisfactory but undistinguished. The Mountain Village is a good example. Located about 30 minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport, it makes a good overnight stay if arriving on the evening KLM flight from Amsterdam. Rooms are smallish but adequate and very attractive setting. Food is fine and service is average by upmarket Tanzania standards. We spent two weeks in Tanzania and used three Serena properties, none of which measured up to the other lodges. Mountain Village is perfectly fine: just don't expect to be overwhelmed with joy considering the cost of the rooms.
