Stayed here for three nights before beginning safari. Room was lovely, its like having your own little cottage. Grounds are beautiful, there is a lake which you can go on an organised trip of. There is also free wifi in the hotel reception. Staff are very friendly.

We were on the very end of a two week safari and our flights did not take off until that night. Our tour operator arranged for us to have a day room here to nap or to freshen up between our morning drive and flight from the Serengetti and our U.S. flight. It was a lovely room and the grounds even more beautiful - roses, bananas and many tropical plants grace the grounds as well as monkeys and gorgeous birds. The lunch buffet was included and was extensive though we were pretty tired of buffet food by the end of the trip and didn't eat much. The room was very nice and ours opened out to a garden area. The bathrooms were large and very nice with lots of natural light. I would highly recommend this hotel for pre or post safari or a Mt. Kilimanjaro adventure.

Our welcome to the hotel was a glass of unripe pineapple juice, a piece of paper with names and a basket of keys. Not exactly your best first impression.
That being said the staff in the bar and restaurants were generally happy and the rooms were clean and in good condition.
The grounds are stunning and the views are superb.

The cottages were spread out on the beautifully landscaped property with a view of the lake. The reception/lounge/dining room had the feel of an English country home with wood paneling, overstuffed furniture and white tablecloths. Roses were abundant in vases all over the building with even an arrangement in the bathrooms. There were also roses in bud vases in the cottages. The cottages were well appointed with large doors opening to either a garden or view of the lake. Porters brought your bags to the room. We were traveling with 15 other people on an escorted photo/nature safari that had been arranged through an US university and a travel agency, so we cannot comment on the value. We spent our first night in Tanzania after arriving by plane here and as a day stay before boarding a night flight back to Europe.

We stayed at the Serena Mountain Village for 2 nights in December while on a safari. At first glance we loved it. The rooms are like independent little Hobbit houses, except they are very roomy. The grounds are fantastic - just check out the pics. The bed was very comfy, bathroom was large, and the rooms were very clean. I can't imagine someone not loving this lodge!

Breakfast was also very good, as well as lunch - we had dinner on the road. There was free wi-fi and a nice gift shop. Make sure you leave enough time there to take lots of pictures!

One more thing... Arusha itself does not look like a place you'd want to stroll around in at night, or any other time for that matter, however, we felt very safe at this lodge! This is one of those really important things to me. Would definitely stay there again.

The hotel seemed decent however after eating lunch and dinner here the following morning both of us were severely ill. I understand the likelihood of getting an upset tummy when travelling is high and we had been taking the usual precautions of only having bottled water etc etc. My husband could hear someone else being sick in the men's toilets in the main building so it wasn't just us. Also, the hotel guide in the room mentions the chance to do a tour of a coffee plantation but when we asked about this at reception they looked at us like we were idiots and said they did no such thing! I appreciate our opinion was very much altered because we got ill but we really were in no position to enjoy the hotel.
