“Hotel just OK-Food horrid”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Room was OK. At Check-In I got a voucher for "free drink" at the 75th floor bar. They forgot to say that it was only for a beer (Bud, Heineken and a local brew) or tea. Then I had dinner at the La Brassiere. It could only could be described as horrible.

Had the turkey. I got a piece of dark meat and a drumstick the was mostly fat, skin, tendon and little meat. Sauce was cold at best. To add insult to it, two people followed behind me got large pieces of breast meat. The rest of tghe buffet looked very unappetizing.

I asked for the check (880 TWD) and just to get out all I had was 1000 TWD. The waiter wasn't even the least bit curious why I had a plate that was only about 1/3 eaten, gave him the money and walked away. I talked to the manager who could only say "Sorry" and offered me one drink.

Poor food service. Horrible food quality. I will not recommend to the people I work with stay here and will inform the person who booked me into the Splendor, to cease doing so and find another hotel.

Two night stay during recent trip to Kaohsiung. The hotel starts on the 39th floor (lobby), with hotel rooms from 40-70th floors. Due to overbooking we got upgraded to the 55th floor, supposely the deluxe rooms.
The room was very nicely furnished, and we were lucky to get the harbor view. It was indeed a nice view esp at night to see the harbor lights from ships and yards.
The only gripe was that there were a few tour groups, including a school trip. So it was quite festive during morning, and as well as early evening hours, with the crowd up and down the elevators. Got that night market ambience in the hotel public area instead. Not so relaxing.
I did like the breakfast offerings alot. So many choices, and delicious dishes both western and asian dishes. Good coffee also.
Overall, it was a decent stay.

I stayed here during a small scale typhoon and the building had some creaking and swaying. But apart from that is was almost perfect.
Beautiful room, amazing staff, very reasonably priced food and room service.
I'd stay there again.

Only stayed 1 night before return flights to US. Big rooms. Easy to find if you like to wander around on foot as it is the tallest building in the city. Small charge for wifi that was OK at best. Did not eat at hotel at all. Ate across the street at Lemongrass restaurant for dinner. Ate in JAL lounge at airport as I needed to leave before they started serving at hotel. Room is beginning to show age, but everything was in working order. Bed was extremely hard which is typical in many Asian hotels.

Its a nice hotel with not much to complain about. The hotel is in the Tuntex Sky-Tower which is pretty cool on its own merrit. If you visit the area and dont stay here you may want to come to the tower anyhow. The rooms were quite large, clean, and well appointed. The beds are a little hard but thats just the norm in this part of the world. Its not a brand new hotel however I thought the accomodations were nice enough. The hotel does offer a variety of food outlets and the food was pretty good by local standards. I stayed here for work and it was very convenient. For comparison, I stayed at the "Single Inn" - which is a completely different place, and I also stayed at the "Hotel Kingdom". The splendor is significantly nicer than the hotel Kingdom however Hotel Kingdom is in a better location for walking. Keep in mind you can take a cab anywhere in the area for about 200 NT (7 US dollars) so cabing it isn't expensive however not particularly convenient. The splendor is a fair bit more expensive but I still consider realtively cheap. If you want to be in the iddle of the action, I would opt for Hotel Kingdom however The Splendor is by far the nicer hotel.

Room Tip: The higher ther better and harbor view is obvioulsy preffered.

I have always thought that this iconic hotel in Kaohsiung is only tall but tired. Yes, from the lobby on 39/f ( u have to take an elevator tO get to 39/f first and then another elevator to the guest rooms, quite fussy), u will notice the outdatedness. However, the room is not at all tired and outdated. spacious with 1 Queen size bed and 1 double bed, clean, well appointed though not as good as the international brands, it does exceed my expectation.

Cons: Internet is free but wifi is not, u've got to contact the front desk for connection.

Breakfast is served at a restaurant on the lobby floor, great view of the city. Food choice was more on the side of local food. Great variey and there is even an area serving only vegetarian food. There is a playground in the restaurant to keep your kids busy. Every kid will be offered a ballon as well.

Good location with convenient stores around. The stay was enjoyable!

Tall & Impressive! We have recently just stayed there and were given a room on the higher floor (6x). Amazing views of the harbour. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. We did not get the chance to use the priority floor benefits as we were always out. I must commend on the internet. the WiFi speed connection was top notch! Extremely fast and smooth.

However there are still a few areas of improvements required:

Rooms: We were on the executive floors. The rooms are very tired and in desperate need of a renovation.
Breakfast: Just ok! Not much selection and they remain the same day after day. A bit of variations would be good.
Porters: Well, we have a little one and a few pieces of luggage and the porters came and open the car door. Was hoping that they would lend us a hand with the luggage to the 39th floor (where the reception counters are located) but instead he simply left us with the luggage and walked away??
Location: Convenience stores across the road which is a plus. Department store right below the hotel - I think you can give it a miss. Things are expensive and nothing great!

Otherwise, a great hotel and reasonably priced for the product.
