“Trendy Hotel in Kaohsiung”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

This is my first time visit to Kaohsiung and would like to stay in a trendy hotel. However, having searched around from internet, all hotels in Kaohsiung are very traditional style which are quite different from Taipei. The only hotel which I thought suitable was Hotel Dua. Unfortunately, I was not able to book a double bed room as all were full and thus I booked the 14-ping room which was a twin bed room.
The room is very spacious and bed is comfortable. Although our room is located in 11/F, the view is blocked by the roof of the next building. However, we can see the view is very great from the 15/F restaurant.
There is also gym room and laundry in 10/F which we also used. As self laundry is free service, usually is occupied by guests.
Buffet breakfast is good in Taiwan standard I think. There are plenty of choices and egg cooking stations. However, the table setting is a bit strange.
Anyway, I will recommend Hotel Dua to anyone who visit Kaohsiung.

we travelled here from the uk for my son's wedding using the banquet facilities and bar for the reception. The facilities were amazing and food faultless. we then went on to stay here for another week in excellent comfort.

The rooms are large , spotlessly clean and well organised. plenty of room for bride , mother in law and bridesmaids to get ready. I loved the luxurious. oriental feel to the décor. and the big soft bed.

breakfast was brilliant with a huge international choice.

The laundry room is a big bonus because the Taiwanese humidity and heat makes it necessary to change clothes at least twice a day.

we shall defiantly be staying here again.

The good:
-Sleek hotel design
-Friendly staff
-Good rate
-Next to MTR, convenient
-Great breakfast, you can bring the plates on the patio if it's not too hot outside
-Room was very comfortable

Have fun finding the door, it is a mystery, just like the hotel's pronunciation.

I don't know why other travelers are so critical of the staff - they are excellent! We were upgraded to a larger room for free, and whenever we needed something there were two or three very genial and professional staff to help us. The common areas, restaurants, and rooms are gorgeous, elegant, and modern. The complimentary breakfast buffet will appeal to a range of visitors, from European to Western to Asian. The free laundry services are very much appreciated if you've been traveling for more than a few days. The location can't be beat - the hotel is less than a block from the Formosa Boulevard MRT station, where you can catch either the red or orange lines. There are also two very good night markets in the surrounding neighbourhood. The area is clean, safe, and bustling.

This lovely hotel situated at the intersection of the (only) two MRT lines in Koashiung and it's only 3 mins walking distance from the MRT. The hotel is new, clean and the breakfast on the top floor with great view. Couldn't make any comments regarding the service but with the price and the location and the new decor I cannot complain about anything. Will definitely stay at this hotel again should I visit Koashiung again!!!

I haven't been to Kaoshiong often so when I say good location I strictly speak as a tourist unfamiliar with the city. The hotel is meters away from a subway entrance and about 7 minutes walk to the famous LiuHe Night Market where if you are adventurous enough, you'll be absolutely amazed by the variety of food on offer. The hotel is 2-3 subway stops away from the major department stores/shopping district so getting to the hotel from the railway from the hotel to everywhere else was a breeze. There is even a smaller night market a block away from the hotel so dinner is well covered, although for tourist the bigger LiuHe night market is recommended.

There are 2 washing machines and 1 cloth dryer which we utilize. By the way, the ratio is all wrong- the dryer took just about forever to dry so one must be patient and wait in queue. There is also a small gym with treadmills which entertained my kids while I was busy with the laundry.

The room is spacious and beautiful...there is something soothing about coming back to such rooms after a long day toiling as poor tourists. For the price, the rooms are big and well-appointed. Breakfast was served at the top level restaurant which can give a bird's view of Kaoshiong from certain tables and the quality of the breakfast is good. Eastern and western breakfast are both available.

However, it's not all plain sailing. During our 3 nights stay there, I had to get the reception to re-do our room card keys twice to open the door, something is not right with that system. Also, we had to keep asking them to give us 4 bath towels since we're sharing the room with our 2 little kids- for every day we were there! The wash sink in our room drained very slowly so it was quite painful to watch the water building up and looked unhygienic. The rooms have electrical toilet seat/bidet which was great, but there was something not 100% with the one in my mom/sister's room. The cleaning staff also missed the "don't disturb" sign and cleaned the room even though my mom/sister indicated not to.

The staff at this hotel was professional and did what they needed to do but compare to the hotel staff we had in Taipei, something was missing. It just seemed that they didn't show the fire/eagerness to the guests like the hotel staff we had in Taipei. But besides asking for my room card keys to be re-scanned and for extra towels, there were very little interaction with the staff as we were out most of the day.

In conclusion, this is a hotel I would not hesitate to stay again next time I visit. The goods far out weight the bads, as the bads were tolerable. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Due to our flight, we arrived at the hotel at 9am. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a crowd of stern looking reception staff. I guessed they were trained to have the US Secret Service personality. (By the way, the main entrance to the lobby is easily missed as the huge doors are camouflaged along the tall left side walls.) Though their black faces complimented the dark hotel decoration rather well. Despite our overnight flight, we were denied early check-in as the hotel was full and had to wait till 2 pm for an available room. The option to leave our bags at the reception was nonetheless provided.

In general, the hotel is new and the room feels clean despite its dark furnishings. I must say, a pretty well equipped bathroom with slightly larger standard sized bathtub, toilet bowl was a plus point. We had the 13-ping room which was spacious. A rather unique feature is this long bench for baggage. The length of it is twice of what is usually seen in most hotel rooms or rather a simple rack. Very useful for some decent packing. Wi-Fi connectivity is a disappointment, weak on our level 11, even when our room is just next to the lobby, ONE password for ONE device (can request more from reception though). TV is reception for CNN was blur at times, not high-definition quality.

The in-house restaurant serves a wide spread of food varieties for breakfast + nice city view from the restaurant. Mornings can get pretty busy and restaurant staff seem to be short handed when clearing tables. Important point to note, dinner service ends at 8.30 pm, Supper/Bar starts at 9 pm but were told that finger food will only be served at 9.30 pm. Very inconvenient, 1 hour kitchen downtime. As we happened to reach the restaurant at 8.30 pm, we headed back to our rooms for instant food. No idea why they wanted to convert the restaurant to a bar so early. Room service was also non-existence.

Car-parking was complimentary for hotel guests and convenient with the basement carpark. There are no complimentary local calls from room contrary to other reviews as mentioned. There is a free self-service laundry area (bring our own detergent).

Note: We were too tired upon arrival for photos of the room.

Room Tip: All rooms have limited views, due to façade of building. Request for rooms nearer to lift lobby, wal...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying at Hotel dúa and spending valuable time to leave us this detailed review.

It is regretful that you had unpleasant impressions upon check-in and in-house dining. To strive to better services, we made a few adjustments to ensure a better Wi-Fi connection, more stable TV reception. In addition, appropriate trainings have been implemented accordingly.

We hope we have another chance to show you our improvements, and looking forward to welcome you back to Hotel dúa again.

Sincerely,
