“Quaint and rustic place for avid photographers, a hidden gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

I didnt know what to expect at a sugar museum... but went ahead anyway. Boy, was I surprised to discover this hidden gem!

The old sugar factory itself wasnt anything spectacular, but the surrounding was very quaint, with lots of great photo spots for the photo enthusiasts. The whole area was rather deserted/ quiet/ empty on a weekday afternoon, and despite looking run down, had a very rustic feel to it.

I'd definitely come back here again.

“A Piece of History of Taiwan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

The Museum area was originally a Sugar Cane Factory which was one of the most important industry in the early years. A sugar train ride is a must to complete the tour.

“Kaohsiung's Sweetest Attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

If you have ever wondered how sugar is made this is the place to come to. But it's not just about the sugar. The old factory provides an insight into the industrial redevelopment of Taiwan and how it has marked the landscape.

The factory is roomy and it is worthwhile hiring some bikes to cruise around on. There are plenty of old trains for the kids to clamber over. There are not many food options so it is worthwhile packing a lunch.

“A quiet little place great for photos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

We had an extra afternoon and decided to visit the sugar museum before hitting the night markets at the suggestion of our hostel owner. It was a surprisingly interesting place, there are no fees, the buildings are quaint and run down, housing the relics of the old sugar factories but the best thing was the old trains outside. Spend a couple of hours here just to relax and take a few shots.
