“Beautiful view, but not worth going out of way for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

I have been going to school in Kaohsiung for about 2 months now, and had still not gone to the British Consulate. So on Saturday since it was so nice we decided to walk there and see how it was. I won't lie it was really beautiful, and a great way to get scenic pictures of the city and ocean. However if I only had a couple days in Kaohsiung I don't think it would be a spot I would go out of the way for. Really pretty to see though.

“Breezy Victorian building with a view.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

This is a nice spot in Kaohsiung.

Its a redbrick, open sided building that a British Trading Company built in 1865. Its located 70 metres up a hill over-looking the harbour. Its a nice place to sit down, have a drink, enjoy the views of the giant container ship coming in. There is a "Victorian Teahouse" which is popular.

Be wary that many people start arriving about 5pm in order to get that spot of the sunset over the harbour. It fills up very fast, even on weekdays.

The most interesting thing about The British Consulate At Takao is the little temple which is actually one of a kind in Taiwan. The Gods are not Chinese...they are Dutch! Im told most Taiwanese wouldn't know who they are, but when the Dutch were involved in Taiwanese life they were looked highly upon, even worshipped for their skills in seafaring and warfare. The result is these two Dutch Admirals being deified and this is their temple.

Nice spot in which to enjoy a breeze, a view and a cup of tea.
