This boutique hotel is very new and tucked in a little corner not far from the famous night market, Liu Ho, in the port city of Kaohsiung. A lot of cab drivers had difficulty finding the hotel but despite the seemingly off-the-beaten-track location, I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who wish for a spacious room and a location close to the night market.

While the hotel is hidden in a small lane off the main road, it is within 5 minutes of walking distance to the famous Liu Ho Night Market where you can find the most authentic local delights ranging from Oyster Mee Sua to Deep-fried Chicken Cutlet to Dan-Dan Noodles. In a way, the hotel has the best of both worlds - a quiet spot within a boisterous night market scene.

Rooms are extremely huge by normal hotel standard. All rooms are suites actually with a 'separate' living room from the bedroom by means of a huge TV console and bar area. I booked a deluxe suite (they have the equivalent of junior, deluxe and executive suite) and was pleasantly surprised by the huge living space and ample supply of amenities (even comes with L'Occitane toiletries!). The room was well-decorated by many artefacts which explains the Chinese name 'Kung Shang I-Shu Hui Kuan' or Imperial Designers Inn by direct transliteration.

Doormen, front desk staff and chambermaids may appear less friendly than other Taiwanese hotel staff but they are nonetheless efficient and approachable. I had a problem with my in-room safe and the service staff who came up to resolve the issue was courteous and patient with the repair (it took quite a while to resolve the problem but he never gave a hint of being annoyed with the repeated attempts to get it working)!

All in all, I would say that this hotel is a hidden gem and it would be a waste to spend your money on other 4 to 5-star hotels in Kaohsiung where you can pay the same price for a much larger room (or suite to be precise) and enjoy the same levels of comfort!
