My friend and I stayed here during the week before Chinese New Year. It was a great stay. Our room had huge windows with a great view of the beach, and it was clean, spacious and comfortable. Had a proper bathtub- only thing I didn't like is that it had 2 twin beds not 2 full-sized beds but this is pretty common for Taiwan. The rooms were also very quiet- seemed much better insulated to sound than most rooms in Taiwan. And a free computer for guests to use on each floor!
The beach (it is a public beach) was clean and nice-one of the nicest beaches I've been to in Taiwan, which surprised me for being in Kaohsiung. There was no lifeguard but you could still go in the water. The hotel also had lounge chairs in a sandy area closer to the hotel.
It was about a 5-minute walk to the nearest MRT station. It's also on the grounds of a university, and close to a road that goes up a mountain- it was a great place to do my morning run, even saw some monkeys!
There was a man at the front desk who spoke excellent English and the staff was always helpful in telling us how to get to get around. Breakfast was included with the room and we were pleasantly surprised to find that it was a made-to-order Western breakfast (eggs, toast, breakfast meat and fruit, with juice and coffee). They were very accomodating in giving me cereal, peanut butter, and extra fruit, too!
Note that there aren't amenities like a swimming pool or gym, and you do have to walk a bit to get to a 7-11 or restaurants- but the location and cleanliness of the hotel was really top-notch. I'd seriously consider going here instead of Kenting next time I want to go to the beach in Taiwan- it was just such a pleasant experience.
