“Great Value, Great People”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

Here's the setting... In Kaohsiung on business. First time here. Don't speak a word of Chinese. Before doing a job I needed to find: lots of tarpaulin material, rain ponchos, large garbage bags, and a big spool of string. Between my iPhone (internet & photos), the staff's passable English, and an extremely aggressive hotel van driver, we found them all in less than an hour. These guys are awesome.

The rooms are comfortable. I agree with other reviewers in that you should set expectations based upon the prices. It's not luxurious, but it is comfortable, convenient, and very friendly. Plus the free, fresh-ground coffee and loaner-bikes add icing to the cake.

If the location was a bit nicer and the outside had a bit more curb appeal, the rating would rise from "very good" to "excellent."

Room Tip: Ask to see a variety of rooms. They will give you keys and you can go make your features/cost decis...

Absolutely fine. Room was clean and a bit on the small side but you should expect that in a business hotel. Very helpful staff who spoke good English. Hotel can be difficult to find first time round so worth getting a taxi there. There's a 7-11 convenience store nearby.

This was a great hotel. It is not as close to the subway as other alternatives, but it is an easy walk, or a cab ride away if you want. The rooms are decent size and clean but my favorite part of it was the staff. They were always willing to call a cab for us, write directions for us or offer their advice. The breakfast was free but a total let down, but if you are getting a hotel based on their breakfast you should just sleep next to the McDonald's garbage cans ;P

Great budget hotel. Good location, close to shops and transport. Old but clean. Staff are cheerful and helpful. Some shortcomings but for the price, no point complaining. Set your expectations to the price of the rooms and you would not be disappointed. I would stay at this hotel again should I ever return to Kaohsiung.

Location is 15 mins from Sanduo metro station,
lined up with small business shops / offices thus not a tourist area.

Staff are friendly & helpful. Free bicycles loan available.
Budget rooms & breakfast's basic.

Room has a small air conditioning outlet
that's hotel central controlled so you cannot adjust high/low
thus i won't recommend staying during summer.

Showering hot water's OFF after approx 11pm.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights while visiting Kaohsiung & the surrounding areas.

Location wise, it's not all that bad, situated about 5-10 minutes walk from the nearest KRT station. It's also near a major shopping area, if that's your thing. The KRT station is on the north-south line & is only a few stops from the major stations in Kaohsiung, meaning that you're rarely more than a half hour from anywhere.

The hotel staff were friendly, even tolerating my poor attempts to learn some Chinese. When checking out, I was offered a lift to the KRT station nearby as well, which was nice. Breakfast at the hotel is nothing spectacular, with a small variety of Chinese & Western dishes on offer.

In terms of the rooms, well the walls weren't the most sound proof, as I found out trying while trying to get some sleep on Valentine's Day night. The couple next door weren't much interested in sleep ... The room itself was large enough for someone going solo to spread their stuff out quite comfortably.

This was our first time in Kaohsiung and we booked this place online not knowing much about it or the area. We lucked out. The staff was extremely helpful. Most of them understood english and one gal in particular was very eager to help us find a place to eat and to arrange tours. We remarked that we wanted to go to the Brasserie buffet in the Splendor hotel and she got us discount tickets saving us about $20 and then got the owner of the hotel to drive us there in his personal car!

The rooms are small and cramped by western standards. I am 5'10" and my head touched the ceiling while standing in the tub. But the beds had decent mattresses and there was a wall mounted flat screened TV that featured 3 english language channels. You can also request an ethernet cable from the front desk (NT150 refundable deposit) for the free internet.

The free breakfast is nice with plenty of Taiwanese dishes as well as toast and muffins. There is coffee available 24/7 for guests. The MRT is a 5 minute walk away. All in all, this is a good place to stay for western visitors to Kaohsiung.
