“Perfect base for exploring Taroko”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

A brilliant property! Easily the best place to stay in the park and a reasonable price too. Nestled deep in Taroko Gorge on a small clearing. The confortable wooden cabins are well designed and contain all the usual amenities. What makes this place amazing is the location, the friendly, helpful staff, and the feast of a dinner every evening. It was a seriously big spread they put on! The "cultural show" was entertaining, if a little bit kitsch. This was a perfect base for exploring Taroko, and a welcome escape from the craziness of Taipei.

Location is excellent, giving breathtaking views over the whole scenic area the Taroko Gorge is famous for. The bungalows are tidy and nicely decorated, with each one having a tiny porch, which invites to have a cold beer after some hot summer walks during the day. Staff is very friendly.

The food was good and average, however, the loction, uniqueness and surroundings are the reasons why one is staying at this marvelous place. Only negative experience was the 2 hour party the staff gave each of our two evenings to guests and tourists, at blasting volume, in the middle and around all the bungalows. The fact that the songs and explanations (at evenly decibels) were in local language did not help us to enjoy the evenings.

However, definitely a very special place, which we recommend.

Staff are all aboriginals. They are very friendly and good. The owner is very humorous. Don't miss out the night's welcome party and the star gazing experience after that.
Room is big n clean. Very close to nature. Imagine waking up to seeing yourself surrounded by mountains, greenery n the sound of nature.
A beautiful place with beautiful people and experience.

Room Tip: Wireless is available.

It is a small zen resort sitting quietly in Taiwan Hualien Taroko National Park and run by friendly 30+ local tribe Truku people. The leader/ manager is a Han Taiwanese who appreciates Taroko culture very much. There are a lot of sculpture, art works, food and CDs all done by Truku people.
Highly recommend spending three days in the hotel where national parks keep the best natural scenery and wildlife well!
I don't think the hotel webpage has any English version but some staff speak English and they are friendly and helpful.

The Hun Chinese have been on Taiwan for about 400 years, but if you’re interested in learning about the aboriginal tribes that have been here for 7,000 years, you’ll want to dine and/or stay at Leader’s Hotel and Restaurant. Primitive sculptures abound and dozens (hundreds?) of wood carvings are fun to look at throughout the facility.
Hunting wild boar has always been a tradition for these people and most of the carvings center around the hunt of these nasty looking mammals. Outside the restaurant, wooden cabins surround a communal area where ceremonial dances and demonstration are performed. Mountains surround the cabins so you definitely feel like you are communing with nature. Nightly entertainment is provided for the overnight guests.
Each of the cabins is very tastefully appointed with a covered, wrap-around porch and chairs; low, but comfy beds; mini-refrigerators; flatscreen TV’s with DVD players; and coffee/tea pots. Bathroom have huge vanity bowl sinks, standard toilets and large walk-in showers with waterfall heads.
Check with a hotel staff for a list of available activities including a number of corporate team-building opportunities. The restaurant offers a chaning menu of aboriginal recipes, but their specialty is BBQ’d pork. Everything I tried was wonderful – including ribs, soup, salad and bamboo rice. Surprise hit for me was the millet wine served in a small pig pitcher. There’s a small hole in the pig’s lips and you sip the wine by “kissing the pig.”

We stayed here on a recent holiday in Taiwan. The room was great....a cabin with beautiful views on the mountains around Taroka Gorge. Staff were great. Dinner and show were very enjoyable, as was breakfast.
Why would you stay in town when you can stay out in the Gorge, surrounded by nature?

Great location in the Park, very friendly staff. Dinner and breakfast are ok, but don't expect too much. Nice performance by the local staff, However no translations, which is a bit a pity. Very quiet Place, best to go there by own arranged transportation.
