“A lake with perfect view of nearby mountain”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

This place is little far from hualin town., and to see the lake from all angle, its recommended to rent the bicycle. Its a 5Km route to circle the lake, and you can enjoy the view of lake in different angle. If you just reach this place via car, and planning to return, you might return great views of this lake, along with the nearby mountains. A good place for photo shoots

“Restful Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Staying at Monet Garden at Liyu Lake was a restful enjoyable experience. We were there during the firefly season so were able to experience an amazing display while walking around the lake in the evening. We also tried the paddle boats. (A warning to the inexperienced. Don't travel to the other side of the lake if you have head wind back to the jetty. We had fun but were exausted). Our family all enjoyed the experience. Mustn't forget the great coffee at Monet Garden after each experiece

“Bring your insect repellant along”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

We did not visit Sun Moon Lake, so Liyu Lake was its substitute. Rode on the boat and explored the lake. The view was mesmerizing (we went there at about 5pm) and the weather was good. However, we missed the firefly season according to the locals. If not it'd be good to stay until 7pm to catch the fireflies in action. At around 6pm there were many many mosquitoes and I left the place with many bites. Did not cycle as it was not worth it (nothing much to explore). You have to try their Drunken Live Prawns if you're visiting the place.

“Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

We visited the lake one rainy afternoon. It was a nice outlook and the cafe served hot drinks which went down well. It would be lovely when the sun is out and you can use the paddleboats.

“Misty lake in the morning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Judging by the number of peacock and dragon paddle boats available for rent, this lake can be very crowded at times. Fortunately for me, I arrived on a rainy, misty weekday morning, so there were only a few people about, kayakers and wild birds at the far end of the lake in the ecological wetlands that has been restored. If you're not into paddle boating, go to the wetlands area and relax there, perhaps with one of the famous local papaya-juice drinks. I watched a local man preparing some betel nuts, eagles and kingfishers fishing, and heard lots of frogs croaking in the wetlands. If you want, you can look at the food ships across the road or even do souvenir shopping.
