“Walk down nature lane”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

Ask yourself what you want to go for. If you're more about the destination than the trip, this valley isn't for you. But if you enjoy walking through nature to take in the beauty around you, then don't miss it. The picture of the sign I took on the way in is about the 300 people per day limit. In our case, the driver we hired to take us there took care of getting us a permit. The form to fill out does ask for some identification information and was simple enough to fill out on the spot (with our driver doing her best to translate). Another review mentioned an online form that might be the smarter way to go. We got dropped off near some vendors and then just started our walk along the road without any particular goal in mind. We stopped at a number of pools along the way to take pictures of the clear bluish-green water. Some of those little treks are challenging so don't get over-adventurous. We did have a few cars challenge our path along our trek but we stepped off to the side and let them go by. The only places we didn't feel so comfortable was the couple of tunnels we encountered. We feared the cars most at that time, but we timed things right and didn't run into any complication. For us, the driver waited for us where we got dropped off, so we kept in mind that the distance we walked out would be the same as the distance we would have to walk back. And bring water...

“Not Worth the Effort & Time!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

A pass was needed to enter the\is valley - due to a daily quota of not more than 600 in a day, as told by the locals. It could be registered online or you do it in person but don't waste your time!

This is basically a walk uphill on a single one lane tarmac, with the river running on one side and the forest on the other. We parked our car and entered the valley by foot. There were some side paths that led straight down to the running river amid the big boulders. The climb could be tough for the elderly, small toddlers and the handicapped - not recommended. Other than this, this valley was just a continuous walk up. Half way on, we were surprised to find some cars coming into the valley. Each time the cars came by, we had to wait at one side. There was no room. And we thought cars were off limits!!!

If daily passes were needed, I would have thought it must be a natural reserve or there must be a good reason for it. But to have cars entering at will, activities like rock hopping/climbing conducted by vendors who had to drive their vans to the point of entry - that made for a lot of pollution! Nothing for conservation!

We were sorely disappointed to have gone to great lengths to procure the passes to realize this valley was just like a nature walk up some hill!

“Crystal Clear Water in a Deep Gorge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

we came here when it was almost winter, so the level of water in the gorge was not as deep as we expected. Nonetheless the water was still crystal clear turqoise blue! This place is called 慕谷慕魚 (Muku Mugi) near Taroko Gorge. they only let 300 ppl in per day / night so that they could preserve it. felt so lucky to be one of the few that were able to enjoy a nice swim in this crystal clear amazingness.
