“Beautiful location, great staff and good facilities - what more could you want?!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2011

This hotel is in the most beautiful location, the gorge is absolutely overwhelming in terms of grandour and beauty ... I've never seen anything so lovely and sort of scary at the same time as it's clear that rocks come tumbling down every now and then! You're recommended to wear helmets in the tunnels although many people, including me, are pretty silly and don't! However, cominig back to the sanity of my own world, I would definitely recommend wearing a helmet if you go exploring in the tunnels etc.
The facilities at the hotel are very good, the rooftop pool is lovely set up high with the gorge around you. There's also a downstairs pool but I'm not sure why anyone would other with this when the rooftop one is so great.
The grounds were set out with bushes that particularly attracted the butterflies that are so prevalent here. Absolutely amazing walking along and seeing so many butterflies landing on the bushes ... also great to see the odd massive spider hanging off its' web in the trees!
Staff were really helpful and English was spoken well. Free internet available. Unfortunately I didn't get her name but one Receptionist was particularly helpful and went to endless trouble when we were havng difficulty checking in on line for our flight next day.
Lots of things to see and you can either drive/cycle around and observe them or you can apply for permission to walk along the trails. I'm not sure about the procedure for this because we weren't there long enough to do this but I'm sure walking the trails would be lovely. I think this hotel and this area was probably the highlight of our holiday for me. We had a great time here.

The Taroko gorge area is beautiful -- mountains, rivers, trails, tropical forests. The Silks place hotel is in Tianxiang -- about 20 km from the mouth of the river -- and can serve as a hub for trips and treks in the surrounding country.
The hotel is a deluxe hotel that offers spacious rooms and suites. If you take a "river view" room or suite you can leave the curtains open and awake into the surrounding wooded mountains. The decor of the hotel is in excellent taste -- brown, black and gray hues, understated style with a lot of wood and stone. The hotel offers a beautiful swimming pool and Jacuzzi on the roof. Take a morning or an evening swim or bath -- before or after your leisurely trip or a strenuous trek.
The hotel staff is responsive and helpful. They can arrange your train tickets, day trips, bike rental etc. There are two restaurants for dinner -- one is an a-la carte oriental restaurant (Chinese, Japanese and Indian dishes, the selection is not very large) and the other is a western/fusion style buffet. I booked two nights and decide to add two more and did not regret it. You can find cheaper places down the road or in Hualien (an hour drive away from Tianxiang) but I believe that none can compete with the Silks place.

Dear Mr. YoavCo

Indeed, the Taroko gorge itself is very unique, and this is also the reason why we can have many people come to this beautiful place! We are very happy that you like the decor of our hotel, we try to combine Chinese element with local culture in Hualien(Stone). As for the facilities part, the major theme is we want to find all kinds of opportunity for our guest can not only join the facilities but also can enjoy the natural beauty.
Thank you so much once again with your sharing information to everyone and we hope can have the chance to welcome you or your friends back to visit here in the future!

- lovely hotel with roof-top swimming pool and hot tubs amidst all the beautiful mountains
- quiet hotel for a retreat
- hotel has lots of 1-day or half-day trips taking you to all the beautiful national park scenery at a reasonable price. You just have to relax and enjoy the beauty of Taroko National Park
- excellent buffet breakfast, lunch & dinner .... I love the all-you-can-eat grills most.
- recently renovated
........... how can you miss a place which was the winter palace of ex-Taiwan president Cheng.

Incredible facilities for children - entire basement is dedicated to a padded area with a jungle gym and dedicated play stations with toys, blocks, dolls for children of different ages. Also have Wiis and ping pong for older children. On the roof there is a large infinity pool with views of the surrounding mountains, 3 spa pools as well. Very helpful staff to help organize tours/tour guides for the surrounding park. Transfer shuttle saves money vs. taking a taxi from train station/airport. Food at restaurant was good, service was a little spotty - coffee was not refreshed regularly, milk for coffee was a special request, butter not provided with bread. For dinner, there is a buffet and a grilled meat main course. The grilled portion was sometimes offered 30 minutes after seating, often came out slowly. But generally a great place to stay and great value!

One other thing that was not clear - we booked a "river view" room that was on the lowest floor for rooms - so there was no view at all. Unclear whether river view rooms are intended to be superior to mountain view, or what the difference is between them. Could be worth checking.

Be warned - there is no food available outside of the hotel - the bus stop across the street serves "food" of VERY questionable quality.

We stayed for three nights in May and I must say that the location is KEY for the Gorge. You are directly across from a temple that you can explore that is gorgeous and the views are beautiful all around.
Our room was a large suite that faced the gorge. We could sit on the balcony and drink tea whilst listening to the sound of the water gushing by.
The staff were good, but the man who showed us to our room did not give a tour of it nor show us how anything worked (lights, temp, etc.) - so they need to improve on that. If they are going to walk you to the room, they need to explain things to you - otherwise what is the point?
The food is good - not great, but considering the location it is acceptable.
We did not find the prices for food to be all that horrible, considering the cost of the rooms in this hotel. It's not that bad. Room service was not so hot. That was the first time I have ever had a sweet style of "nu rou mien" (beef noodle), and I prefer savoury!
The architecture of the hotel itself is gorgeous. The view from the roof pool is the clincher. It seems very natural and well thought-out overall.

This hotel located in the heart of the Taroko Gorge has been the finish point of some epic bike rides we have done in Taiwan over the last couple of months. Every time we arrive at the Silks Place, we are amazed by the quality of the service, the effort of the very helpful and attentive staff and their great attitude towards cyclists, helping us in every possible way to enjoy our stay.
Beautiful and very comfortable rooms, great food at the buffet dinner and the outdoor jacuzzi on the roof terrace, with spectacular view of the gorge, are the perfect way to rest and recover after a long day in the saddle!
The great outdoor breakfast on the terrace overlooking the garden and the gorge is the best way to start the day.
This is the place where you keep asking yourself "What can go wrong?" as something usually does go wrong, but so far, after several visits, everything has always been perfect and has exceeded by far our expectations!! We will definitively be back!!!

thankyou to Zoe for helping us with our tour bookings, directions, translating and being rec'd in such a friendly way and helping me learn a little of your language at the same time. This is not only excellent in all respects, its a great value. Extremely clean, bright, fresh and contempory. Outdoor breakfasts over looking the gardens, great dinners, pool was very refreshing and relaxing with a beautiful view of the gorge. Hot/cold tubs were the same. This could all be good in many places (I've stayed at many over the years and this is far above)but when you added the people it takes it up another notch. My son and I were expecting to stay 1 night and had to book another night. Zoe exemplified the standard that should be set for the hospitality industry.

Room Tip: river view is beautiful
