“Wonderful getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2011

This nice hotel is located right in the middle of the national park, surrounded by rivers, mountains, forest and nature. The modern style fits perfectly into the surrounding. From the outdoor swimming pool and the whirlpools on the top floor you feel like bathing in the sky – even the clouds passing by your head. Dinner and breakfast buffets are really international and were far the best on our Taiwan trip. The rooms can be faced the river or the courtyard. Some rooms are already renovated; some are still in need of it. Bathroom is quite spacey and the shower-and-bathtub-room is stunning. Some staff members are fluent in English, while others are not at all. There is a shuttle picking you up on request in Hualien city.

Silks Place Taroko is our favorite hotel in Taiwan. The location is absolutely gorgeous and combined with this beautiful hotel you can't go wrong. My husband and I stayed for eight nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We loved having breakfast outside in the mornings and our afternoon cappuccino in the lovely lounge while taking in the awesome views.

Taroko is one of the most beautiful and unique places in Asia and this hotel is beautifully situated, surrounded with beauty. The hotel fits the environment with it's peaceful ambience and soothing atmosphere. Recently renovated, Silks Place has a European feel to it with special decorative touches throughout. Of course, I have to mention the staff, they were delightful as well as efficient and very accommodating. The rooms are modern and have
every amenity.

The hotel has bikes to rent, tours to take and guided hikes. We didn't do any of these, but just enjoyed the hotel and our daily walks. Additionally, the hotel boasts one of the most
beautiful pools, surrounded by mountains. Also, the evening open bonfire is a unique hotel
experience with special dances and singing presented by the local aborigines. Just an
overall great stay! My husband and I will take every opportunity to return.

We stayed in their standard (ie cheapest) room. Bedroom and bathroom both very spacious.
The bedroom appeared to have been recently decorated to a very good standard. The bathroom was not newly fitted, but clean and perfectly okay.
Had breakfasts and dinners there. I would rate the food as average. However, very few other dining options within walking distances.
The best things about Silks Place Taroko are: good facilities (indoor pool, rooftop pool, plenty of loungers with towels provided, gym, ping pong tables, wii, tennis court, etc. - all at no extra costs), friendly staff, and the beautiful natural surrounding.

Very attentive staff who would find a solution for everything. Many activities available to nature lovers, including biking and hiking. Scenic views, great location. Very good food. Buffet restaurant is great value for money. We will definitively be back.

Only a few downsides: coffee and other extras are expensive; and there does not seem to be an indoor lobby or lounge where one can enjoy a drink. There is an outdoor lounge but when it gets chilly in the evening there is nowhere to have a drink indoors, as the only lounge is strangely reserved for the suite occupants (it seems to be empty most of the time).

Destination : The famous National Park in Hualien, Taiwan - TAROKO GORGE
Hotel : SILKS PLACE TAROKO

From the Hualien Train Station, the hotel picked us up with warm greetings. It took approx 40 mins to get to our hotel- SILKS PLACE TAROKO. Not only the warm greetings at first, but also the beautiful country views and breath-taking views of TAROKO GORGE.

Checked ourselves in the RETREAT ROOM, which is right next to the river thus we got a great view from our balcony. The service, food, wine, pool...and everything just made our trip much more forgetable.

For any travelers who ever plan to come to Taiwan, make sure you tour TAROKO National Park and check urself in SILKS PLACE TAROKO. U not only get to see the breath-taking views but also the great facilities, food, service of the SILKS PLACE TORAKO. If interested, google it! SILKS PLACE TOROKO will just be the cherry of the cake!!

I first took notice of this hotel by a single picture on its then still under-construction site, showing the river flowing right outside the balcony from its River View Suite. And just thought it'd be one of the hotel I'll have to check out. When our Tokyo trip over the Ching Ming long weekend got cancelled due to the unfortunate earthquake, we decided to finally swing by Hualien.

I was amazed at how accessible Hualien is from Taipei. Flight from Song Shan airport (in the heart of Taipei city) was barely 30 mins. The trip from Hualien airport through through the picturesque Taroko Gorge was about another 45 mins. All in all, the trip took slightly over 2 hours, with very little fuss.

When we arrived, it was dark out. The hotel rose like a shining pearl in the spotlight. It was really quite breath-taking. Staff was very well trained in welcoming us, leading us upstairs to the lounge for a quick check-in and briefing of the optional activities the next day. Then came a series of 3 reasons why you should all go to this hotel.

First, we got the River View suite that I saw on the website. And it is AMAZING. The gentle sound of the flowing river was soothing and totally relaxing. The room itself was huge - probably bigger than the apartment I stayed in HK.

Second - the executive dinner at the lounge was excellent. The tenderloin cooked by chef Asish (?) may have been one of the best I have ever tasted - juicy, consistent and melts in your mouth. There was a huge campfire by the pool next to the lounge, where we sat and drank for a while, before retiring.

Third - the view and sheer magnificence of Taroko. No words can describe its beauty and I'll leave it that it must only be experienced first-hand to do it justice. Couple of free optional tours are available from the hotel, going by different routes.

Western Taiwan (Tainan, Taichung, Sun moon lake) is where most visitors head to when they want to get a taste of what's outside Taipei. But they really don't know what they're missing till they make it to Taroko Silk's place.

Stayed there for 2 nights (Dec 2010), our 1st time there.

Stay started well: driver was waiting for us at Hualien train station with our names on a card. We boarded a mini bus which will bring us to Silks Place.

Beautiful scenery once we entered Taroko Gorge area. Very good first impression of the hotel too: luxurious lobby, beautiful surroundings. Reception staff are friendly. Rooms are big & luxurious too. Activities you can do in the hotel: Heated indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, children play room, table tennin, outdoor pool plus 3 heated jacuzzi.

Two types of 1/2 day tours (morning & afternoon) are available at the reception, they bring most attractions in Taroko Gorge. But you should spend at least a whole day hiking or walking on the trials of Taroko Gorge.

Restaurants serve excellent foor (but pricy). Walk 100m across the carpark and you will find cheap local food & local fruits.

Room Tip: Nice view from riverview rooms

Dear Silks Place Guest
Thank you so much for your very positive feedback and your take your comments very serious. 90% from our ingredient are from our local farmers and fisher. We try to get so much is possible from the local market what is the best quality and of course a bit more expensive then frozen food what is very cheep. Our philosophy to offer our guest only the best with a fair price.
Healthy or organic food is for us a must and the most guest feel the difference of the quality from our dishes. We will try to balance price with food quality and would say thank you very much for your feedback and hope welcome you soon back at Silks Place Taroko. Michael B Gaehler
