This was our one and only Min Su homestay experience in Taiwan, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in our 3D2N stay, and we have fond memories of the warm Taiwanese hospitality and friendship.
The location of this Min Su is away from the main town area in a suburban district, so we had a little difficulty finding our way there as the cab driver was also not familiar with the actual location. It would therefore be a wiser decision to call the cab company which the lady owner (Sherry) recommends, as they would know exactly how to get there, and at a discounted rate.
Even though the Min Su was away from the main town area, we did not find the location a disadvantage, as we found out that the Min Su was actually beside a magnificent mountain range that brings with it a steady stream of cool and fresh air in the environment. Dotted around the entrance is a pleasant array of potted plants with colourful flowers, a nice way to welcome guests to the Min Su. It is a quaint and quiet neighbourhood, a perfect place to start off our dream vacation.
Sherry offered us excellent hospitality. She gave us good advice on nice, scenic areas within Hualien to tour. Her husband also highlighted for us some must-try food in Hualien, after hearing from us that we were keen to explore some tea houses and street stalls to try some local food. Both mornings, we were welcomed by an invigorating organic breakfast, complete with a nice pot of red tea plus another pot of home-made black soy milk. On the day we visited Taroko Gorge, Sherry was also very gracious to lend my wife her own warm jacket when she realized we were not prepared for the colder temperatures up in the mountain ranges.
The Mini-Provence room which we stayed in was beautiful, with a delightful touch of European décor and ambience. It is not a big room, but it is cosy. Being the only room located on the 4th floor also gave us that added privacy that my wife and I were most grateful for, as it allowed us time to marvel at the wonder of creation plus take some very nice pictures up on our private balcony facing the mountain range and surrounding areas.
Overall, I would say that our stay at Fun House was both memorable and enjoyable. Hualien is a beautiful county, but what really made our wedding anniversary unforgettable was the pleasure of meeting a genuine and gracious family who were not just willing to tell us more about nice places-of-interest in east Taiwan, but who also opened up their home and lives to us in a very sincere and humble manner.
