“a place worth making a trip for”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

The location is in a valley with stream/waterfall and many butterflies (Oct) with hot spring.

All aspects of this place (room/amenities/views/service) are excellent. We stayed in 4-person Japanese style room in annex building.

We were especially impressed by the thoughts that went into the selection and preparation of breakfast and dinner buffets.

LIKES:
-excellent service from all staffs encountered
-public hot spring with many different types of jets to play around
-walk to the waterfall (very little people compared to similar walk near the Silks at Taroko Gorge)
-big bathroom with hot spring
-buggy service at your call

DISLIKE
-old towels
-family room only equipped with two umbrellas

I was at the resort only for an hour on a day-long tour of the Rift Valley that left from the tourist booth in Hualien near the train station. This is an excellent resort with its combination of beautifully manicured grounds filled with blooming plants, butterflies both free and in enclosures, a spa with hot spring pool and probably plenty of spa activities, restaurants, etc. For those who want a more natural experience, there are a variety of nature trails passing through old camphor trees covered with vines, alongside a small creek with waterfalls and vistas. On the way you may encounter assorted monkeys before they vanish with warning barks into the undergrowth. The trails are easy to walk, and they provide a nice glimpse of Taiwan's natural beauties. For those who want to get away from it all, but still have a variety of things to do, this would be a good resort to visit for several days. There are other attractions in the area that are easy to reach from the resort.

I visited this park with my in-laws during Chinese New Year. Though we only spent several hours, one could easily spend the entire day. They have nicely maintained trails which hike up to a small waterfall, then up and around the waterfall and back to the main area. We just did the up and back, but it is clear the long way around would be beautiful as well. There was a rest stop with bathrooms about half way up and picnic table/rest stops along the way.

Along the driveway, there are a number of displays of Taiwan insect life. If you have any interest at all in insects, this is an excellent, must-see attraction.

I understand that this park was built by the government then handed over to the local community for employment opportunities. There are a number of dams which control the water flow, but they were done in a way as to not appear too man-made. The water

The hot springs are an outdoor setting with multiple pools of various temperatures. Each pool has a sign of the temperature and PH balance of the water. The pools have different water massage elements, so you can move from station to station and get everything massaged. Of course, bathing caps are mandatory. The changing rooms are nice. If you don't bring your bathing cap, towel or need a locker, all are available at a price.

One of the great things about this park is that they do not accept tour buses, so crowds are kept at a minimum. Even at peak Chinese New Year time, there were just enough other guests to make it interesting.

This was a highlight of our trip and I encourage anyone in the area to spend at least a half-day.

We (a group of Taiwanese-Americans) spent one day and one night here in July. From the senior citizens to the youngest child we all unanimously agreed that this was the highlight of our trip in Taiwan. This is a very exclusive resort. One comes here to avoid the crowd, enjoy nature, go on hiking trails of various challenge levels, enjoy the sumptuous breakfast and dinner buffets, soak away all the worries in the pools and water massage therapies, and simply have a good time. The staff's attentiveness was beyond what we get anywhere else.

We bought some swimming suits here. Price and variety trumps what we normally find in North America.

This place provided shuttle service from train station. For the size of our crowd, they even drove us to Hualian. That was some service!

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building. It was fine. No comment on the other sites.

We were there in July. The weather nice but hot and humid. The hotel ground is beautiful. The villa we stayed was big and nice. But beware of mosquitos. You find those little friends everywhere in the mountain. The pakage come with breakfast and dinner. There aren't any resturents close by. It takes about 15 minutes of driving time to get to the town. Staffs are nice. Hot spring are good but not lexury.
