“Terrific!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2011

The only thing I can complain about is the sun. Due to weather condition, we missed the sunrise. Other than that, the honeymoon suite is small but great with superb view of the coast and the mountains. Strangely, the direction towards the mountains are always bluish. Cleanliness and friendliness can be seen throughout the hotel and oh yes the 24hrs coffee place makes u feel home especially sitting outside the cafe during this cool weather and sipping away your coffee. I would recommend friends and anyone coming here to at least stay at least 2 nights here and spending more time around the hotel vicinity than traveling to the hualien city. Cheers to the hotel!

We stayed at the hotel for 3 days. Staying at Bayview means being well looked after - as if you are at home... Imagine if you can feel so when traveling, away from home.

We called ahead to ask for directions and were very impressed when we were told the hotel can picked us up at the train station.

The staff were all very helpful, most willing to explain how things works - from tours to cab and what to do. Rooms although small is very clean, neat and really look good. Breakfast is adequate and sufficient. As i am not one for all the oriental food, the toast and coffee is enough for me. There is free flow of coffee, tea and biscuits throughout the day at the side cafe which really is a nice touch for guest wanting a rest and a cuppa.

Bicycles are provided free if you show them your room card. The quality of the bicycles are good and we took a long long ride of almost 60K through the connecting bicycle trial and almost reached Liyu Lake (Carp Lake) except it is getting dark so we have to turn back.

All in all, a great place that we all have fond memories even to this day and we will return if we are in the area again!! Keep it up for it is the great people that makes this hotel a great place that it is today!

Everything about this hotel is outstanding. Our first visit stay was in the honeymoon suite while our second visit was a normal room. Each room offered exquisite ocean views from their balconies. The bathrooms are equipped with large shower stalls and most importantly were clean!

I would recommend renting a car if you plan on staying here. Although it is near the water, it is quite a drive to go into Hualien or Taroko.

One minor drawback is that it is located next to an air force base. There are flights throughout the day that could disturb an afternoon nap. But, everything else the hotel offers more than makes up for this!

A friend and I spend 10 days independently travelling Taiwan and stopped for 2 nights at the Bayview Hualien. We arrived by train and though the hotel was willing to pick us up, it meant a 45 min wait so we hopped into a cab (NTD200) to the hotel. Loved the clean, cosy, nautical themed hotel. It's only 2 years old so everything's in good condition tho there was a smell coming from the pipes in the bathroom so they changed our room for the 2nd night.

We booked a taxi that took us to Taroko Gorge for NTD2200. The Gorge is worth a visit, particularly the Shakadang Trail. Shopping in Hualien's concentrated around Dong San Road. There are 2 great dumpling shops there (one's called Gong Zhen Ta Poa, the other Chou Family Ta Poa) and a popular pork noodle shop (Lai Chen). I liked the dumplings better than the noodle personally.

We had dinner at the goat farm that many reviewers mentioned. I can't fathomed why anyone would want gamey goat's milk in their coffee but I thought the cheese cake's pretty good (not gamey at all) and the lamb shank's (in a redwine tomato sauce) of a quality you find in good western restuarants.

Also found out from the taxi-driver that it is possible to rent a taxi from Hualien to Sun Moon Lake for NTD5000 passing through the South Cross Highway (elevation 3200 ft at highest point) which from what I read has gorgeous scenery (sea of clouds etc). Though expensive, it is likely to be quite a ride. If I had known this when I was planning the trip, I would definitely had included this in my itinerary.

I was planning to celebrate my girl friend birthday at Hua Lien, I choose this hotel because it's face to the Ocean. And the hotel staff are so friendly and helpful, they help me to prepare a birthday cake and birthday gift for my girl friend. They also provide free airport and train station pickup without any charge! The breakfast buffer is good and have many choice. The Wifi Internet service is fast and free of charge. We are happy our stay in this hotel, will be come back again!

Warm and Honest Service
I booked the hotel at the last minute due to the cancellation from a Alishan homestay. The booking over the phone and email was efficiently completed by Mr. Juan Lin within half an hour. Emails with essential information was sent quickly. They arranged the transportation from Hualien railway station even though I only gave them less than 12 hours of notice with the last minute train ticket booking.

When we reached the hotel, Juan Lin personally welcomed all the guests at the front door. The front desk staff gave good advise on transportation and activities. We have to leave for a early train ride back to Taipei. The hotel arranged for the transportation
and I was surprised to see that a taxi picked us up instead of the hotel van. I thought the taxi was arranged because our departure time was too early. The taxi driver charged us NT180 for the ride. The next day, I had an even bigger surprise when I received an email
from Mr. Juan Lin that it was a misunderstanding and the NT180 was refunded to my credit card. They could have done nothing but choose to take the trouble to refund and live up to their promise of free transportation to and from the railway station.

Clean and Relaxed Environment
The room is spotlessly clean - the floor, beddings, even the hot water flask is clean. Unlike international chain hotels, the rooms are decorated in a homely and inviting manner. The marble-tiled bathroom had interesting pattern and is equipped with the rain shower and normal shower.

Cafe Aegean in the hotel provide free flow of coffee, tea and biscuits. There are two computers with high speed internet and loads of newspapers and magazines. With its interesting wall mural and tall windows that let in natual light, it's a perfect place to relax when it was pouring outside. I enjoyed a cup of tea while reading the gossips in Taiwanese magazines and listening to the pitter-patter of the rainfall. The free bicycles provided are better than the ones I saw on rental at Danshui.

The Chi Hsing Tan beach 5 min walk away from the hotel is beautiful. With the mountain cliffs lining the Pacific Ocean and the waves foaming and crusing on the pebble-filled beach, it's a great joy to stroll or cycle in the area.

Food
Food-wise, the nearby options are more expensive. The restaurant at the goat farm offers fabulous view of the mountains cliffs dropping into the Pacific ocean. A meal per pax cost around NT500. The seafood restaurant near the Giant Bike Station is slightly cheaper at around NT250 per pax. Food is not great though. There is a vegetarian pizza place on the way to the farm. Too bad they were repairing the oven when we were there.

I find it worthwhile to pay for a round trip taxi to town (NT350). There are many cheaper food options and shopping in town.

Overall
It's definitely a place run with a lot of heart. One could feel that they try their best to
serve and to let everyone enjoy their Hualien stay. Priced at half of what I paid for the 3* Taipei hotel, it definitely provides excellent value for money.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 days 2 nights. It's very popular and the room type (balcony) that we wanted was fully booked 1 month before our trip. As a result, we settled for the inland view room that was still very good.

THE ROOM
The room had a Aegean romantic feel, blue and white walls, white partitions and beautiful furniture, maritime decorations. It was a very pleasant place to stay. There's free internet and it is very fast (remember to ask for the lan cable from the reception area). The toilet has a rainshower facility and is very clean and well equipped with toiletries.

THE HOTEL
The hotel has a very beautiful facade with many photographic opportunities. This is however a stark contrast to its immediate surroundings which are old, dilapidated buildings that smell of 3 day old fish. The hotel provides free bicycle rental service and the guy manning the bicycle rental is a very helpful person who likes to take photos for couples. We had a fun time taking photos around the hotel with him as our impromptu photographer (he takes good photos and gives good directions of how to pose). The bicycles are very well maintained and easy to ride on. There are well-paved bicycle tracks along the beach and it takes us to places like the mountains, hualien military airport and there's vendors selling typical street food along the way (smelly tofu, sausages, sweet potatoes etc)

FOOD
The hotel's service was decent, they had transport for us from the train station to the hotel and back again for free. However, they are not able to suggest good places to eat around the vicinity of the hotel and would always tell us to go to the city instead. However, we did our own searching and found a few good places: Walking to the beach and turning left, in 5 mins, a seafood restaurant next to a hostel can be found and sells very good seafood (even mola mola meat and angler fish meat if you are so inclined to try). Note: the seafood place does not accept credit card. Another good place can be found after walking about 10 mins more in the same direction. it's a goat farm that is also a restaurant and bed and breakfast. It's small and quaint with decent food (credit card accepted). The location of the restaurant affords fantastic ocean views. The speciality of the place is goat products though you would not be able to get much variety in terms of goat meat as they only sell goat shin dishes. There's goat milk coffee and goat milk cheesecake which is worth a try. For the kids, there's 3 male goats outside that they can feed and touch.

CONVENIENCE STORE
Beyond these places, there's very few other places to eat especially at night as many places are closed. We tried going to a hotel nearby which offered dinner set for 180 but we were turned away because apparently there's 'no food left' in the fridge! Hence, if you do go to the city, consider eating a hearty meal before heading back to the hotel. If not, there's always a convenience store nearby where you can grab instant noodles for dinner.

OVERALL
Overall, the experience staying at this hotel is very good and we strongly recommend this hotel for people who want a relaxing seaside holiday without the hustle and bustle of city life. Do note however, if you are looking for lots of food and things to do, then perhaps this hotel isn't for you.
