“A Mediterranean style beachside get-away hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

I'm really glad we decided to stay at the Hotel Bayview instead of one of the hotels in downtown Hualien. The easy access to the beach, the free bike rental and paved bike paths, and the rooftop swimming pool all contributed to a relaxing visit with lots of fresh air and time outdoors. The Hotel Bayview is definitely a family hotel - expect to hear children running around, talking excitedly, and occasionally crying. The one negative to the area - not the hotel - is the lack of cafes and restaurants. We caught a cab into town every night for dinner. As other reviewers have noted, the staff are truly excellent and can arrange a variety of activities and tours of Taroko Gorge. I will definitely come back to the Hotel Bayview the next time I'm in Hualien.

My son & I stayed at Bayview Hotel Hualien in June for 3 nights.

The Hotel was fantastic for the cleanliness & service. We were picked up at the train station and room was immediately available.

The front desk booked our tour to watch the dolphin next morning. Although the tour was fully booked, the hotel managed to secure 2 seats for us for the 9am tour. Very thoughtful & good service.

We wanted to tour the Gorge on our third day, but did not want to join any tour bus/group, hence Juan recommended us a car & the driver, who was also our tour guide as well. He was the best of the best, as the driver took us to may different caves... & he even brought along umbrellas & torch light (very useful & must have)... we gave him a big tip after the whole day tour, as we felt he had gone beyond his call to provide us a fantastic service.

This is one of the hotel which I highly recommend for service & liability & cleanliness..

Done a fantastic & great job, definitely stay here again if we visit the next time.

Stayed 2 nights at Hotel Bayview end of June. Big and beautiful hotel near the beach. The hotel is facing Chixingtan/pebbles beach and takes less than 5 mins to walk there. If weather is good.. you can even watch sun rise from the room facing the sea or just go to the beach.

Not much of eateries near the hotel except a family mart(Convenient store) and maybe one or two others. You can ask the hotel to call a cab for you to town area. It is cheaper but of course depending on your destination. I paid less than NT200 to Ziqiang Night market per way. While you are waiting for the cab at the hotel, you can go to the mini café area to sit. There are free beverages and biscuits.

I will still stay back at this hotel the next time I go to Hualien simply because its quite a romantic place and of course given its good reputation for service.

Room Tip: Pay alittle more and choose ocean view facing the sea.

Hotel Bayview definitely deserves to be the Traveller's Choice for 2 consecutive years (2012-2013). Whatever great about them has already been said and you can expect the same warm hospitality when you arrive.

The pluses: Transport to and fro the hotel for arrival and departure (due to its location away from the city centre), Wifi in the hotel room, scenic views (if you book the ocean view room), free 24 hour coffee bar, free bicycle rental to cycle along the scenic Chisingtan and wonderful service from the hotel boss, Juan. Juan was extremely helpful - he helped us with the bicycle rental, provided us on advice on where to eat around the hotel and best of all, he speaks and writes excellent English. On a sidenote, I think Juan also upgraded my double room to a bigger room, although there was 2 rooms left. Thank you Juan!

The minuses: You need to spend about 100-200NT (Hualien taxi meter starts at ~100NT) to get a cab out of the hotel to the city centre, which is about 10-15min drive. If you're looking for a beach escape, this should not be a problem, just that food options will be extremely limited. It is thus ideal to rent a scooter to get around. Alternatively, you can choose to stay here for 1-2 days, and stay at a hotel/minsu located in the city centre for the next few days, just like we did.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Bayview an the service was absolutely impeccable. Good job, Juan!

Room Tip: Book early for the ocean view room.

This is not a 5 star hotel but it rates a 5 considering it is in a fishing village and very convenient to the Taroko Gorge etc. After spending much time reviewing hotels, i booked a couple of nights at the Hotel Bayview for my daughter and myself. It was fully booked but i persisted in checking with them for cancellations and was able to get 2 nights but had to move from one room to the other. The staff made this happen while we were touring the Gorge. If you have a choice, balcony rooms are the best, mountain side windows are small and it is more like a city/village/highway view with mountains in the background. The second floor balcony's are less than desirable because you cannot see the ocean sitting down because the wall is too high. Staff very helpful.

Room Tip: Mentioned above.

The bayview hotel is very nice. Close to Qixintan, bicycle rental is free. It's nice to cycle around, grab an ice cream and walk by the 'beach'. The beach is mainly stones and not sand. Breakfast is simple but sufficient. If you need to go to town, will have to take taxi. The hotel also provide free transport to/from train station but not during odd hours. Overall it's good.

We arranged pickup service at Hualien Station, and were pleased to see two of the staff there waiting promptly for us. They helped to carry our luggage to the van too. It was a short drive to the hotel.

The hotel looks beautiful, and the view from the hotel room was even more beautiful. Try to book an ocean-view room with balcony! It will be worth the extra charges. You don't need to go to the beach to watch the sunrise or admire the ocean, You can simply view it from your room, or even from your bed. Imagine waking up 5am early in the morning and you can simply admire the awesome sunrise from your bed.

Staff greeted us when we left or returned to the hotel.

Something worth mentioning is that the bed was big and comfortable, and they provided two bottles of mineral water for each pax (from my experience, most hotel provides one bottle only).

Some precautions to take note. Don't place your food on the table. It attracted ants within minutes.. Also, be careful of the electric kettle. At the first usage, the water was stained and it was oily. I suppose the previous user used it to cook a non-water food?

Other than that, everything was perfect.
