“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

I stayed with a couple of friends at the Hotel Bayview for a night this November. The hotel is nestled in a nice area of Hualien beside the sea and therefore provided a relaxing retreat from city life. The room I picked was one with a seaview, and it proved a good choice given it is always nice waking up to the melodious sounds of the waves coming in and stretching to mountainous landscapes. The room itself was spacious enough for 2 grown adults, and had everything one required, including a very decent balcony. Probably the only thing lacking was a carpeted floor, in the absence of which the floor can get quite chilly. Breakfast was decent, although not fantastic (would recommend heading out for breakfast instead). Staff were friendly and accommodating. There are bicycles available for rental without charge from the hotel, which can be put to good use along the cycling path along the coast. The city is not far away, but a taxi ride would cost up to NTD200. All in all, a very good experience.

We did not stay here, but wanted to see the beach near the hotel. We took a cab and it left us stranded. The staff at the reception desk called us a cab, offered us coffee and rolls, talked about his time in Toronto. It was great. They did not have to help people off the street who were not guest, but they did. Five stars for being kind.

We stayed at Bayview Lodge which is a smaller Minsu with 5 guest rooms, runned by the same family as Bayview Hotel. The service provided was excellent -- free rental of Giant-brand bicycles for us to cycle along the beach, good breakfast buffet spread and they even informed us the timing for sunrise. Lin Huan who is the son of the owner was very hospitable. He gave us a detailed orientation on the area and also shuttled us into the city and to the train station when we departed.
The room was simple and clean, and came with a sofa and small balcony overlooking the sea. Our bed faced the sea which allowed us to laze in bed and enjoy the sunrise. The view was impeccable!

On arrival at the airport we were picked up and taken to the small town. The hotel is not in the city, but a nearby town but I understand that it is not necessary to even go to the city as this is the nicest part. The town is a bit like a step back in time - it reminded me a bit of Nha Trang in Vietnam per-development days. I am sure in te future Hualien will be developed like Nha Trang.
Anyway, on arrival in the town we saw the hotel and were driven to a different building which was an annex of the hotel. We were a bit confused but Juan came out and explained to us that it was in fact a separate building but part of the same hotel.
Anyway it didn't bother us, the room we had was very nice, quite large, very clean, nice bathroom, all amenities were included, wireless internet, a nice view to the ocean and all in all a very pleasant stay.
We used the complimentary bikes and took a ride along the coast which was great and then walked to a nearby Italian restaurant for dinner which as really very nice. The are limited restaurants in town and this one looked like the best.
The purpose of our visit was to enjoy Takoro Gorge the following day. We had organised an English speaking guide, Tiffany, and she arrived promptly and took us on an eight hour tour of the gorge which was amazing?
She then checked the train timetable, took us to the station, organised our train tickets back to Taipei and bid us farewell.
It was a great stay in Hualien and a wonderful day at Taroko Gorge.

We stayed 3 nights at Bayview. The rooms were smaller than we expected, however, the rooms we're clean and neat and staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a wonderful sea view from our room balcony. Hotel provides free shuttle from the train station, free bicycles and umbrellas.

It was difficult to book the room online cos you needed to know how to read Chinese. There were also no replies to the multiple emails I sent them. The only way to contact them was over the phone.

Within walking distance, there was a family mart nearby where you can buy all your essentials. There was also a very good Chinese restaurant which sells incredible seafood for very good price (we paid US$40 for 6 pax, order fish, prawns and other dishes). There was a also a restaurant selling very good western food (we paid $80 for 6 pax), ordered lamb chops, mixed grill, pasta etc.

In the morning, we could watch the sunrise, take a walk on the beach, watch the fishermen bring in their catch, cycle, take in the sea breeze. After breakfast..we went to the Farglory Ocean Park and had a great time. The next day, we took a tour of Hualien. Get a good taxi driver cos it makes all the difference.

We just returned from our 1 week trip in Taiwan. We stayed at Hotel Bayview for 2 nights on 24th & 25th Oct. Everything either met or exceeded our expectations.

We were picked up by hotel staff swiftly after departing the train station. At arrival, front desk already confirmed the ride back to train station on the last day. Our track arrived at Hualien at 1pm and hotel check in was 3pm. But they anticipated our arrival and prepared our room already. So we went to our VIP family suite which was very pretty with the sea view, balcony, cozy sofa, large wardrobes. We especially liked the comfy beds and pillows, and user friendly showers without having to lift our legs to get in and out, and yet won't wet the floor outside the shower.

We immediately went for bike ride along Qisingtan, another amazing spot. What we loved about the hotel is the beach itself is a scenic spot already. At sunset we returned the bikes and went to a nearby eatery (within a souvenir shop) recommended by the hotel staff, which is good and cheap (NTD790 for 4), including drinks.

The next day we went to Taroko with driver referred to by Tiffany (learnt about her fm TA). Otherwise the hotel can help to book taxi drivers also. We didn't ask them about the rate since we have our own driver already. When were returned at late afternoon, we went for bike ride again as our little girl really loved the long and flat bike trails. We also took many shots of the sunset along the beach. We then went to the Goat Ranch, a ranch that also offers western menu as suggested by the hotel. Good food and environment.

The last day before we returned to Taipei we went to Zhaofeng Farm. Hotel staff helped us to arrange return trip taxi ride at NTD1,200 (vs. NTD800 one way when we inquired our Taroko driver). We had a little logistics problem. We wanted to return straight to train station to save time. But taxi driver wouldn't wait for us at the farm. We also didn't trust the taxi to carry our suitcases everywhere. Hotel suggested they help to bring our suitcase to meet us at the train station, and arranged for taxi driver to call them when we would leave the farm so they could estimate the timing better. Everything went well as planned.

Probably because this is a small hotel, the staff could recognize us by face when we came in and out. When our self-arranged taxi arrived to pickups up, they called us in the room to alert us.

Others already commented about the breakfast. We also want to highlight there is a 24 hr cafe with free coffee, computer, cookies, magazines which comes very handy while waiting for taxi or next event.

We don't care for the 15 taxi ride to downtown as we didn't plan to visit there. Value wise this hotel is very good. We paid NTD4500 for a room for 4 incl breakfast. At Taipei, we stayed at Dongwu Hotel at NTD3360 also with breakfast, but obviously with much smaller room and no view. We also stayed at Sherwood at NTD7600 with breakfast but service not as good (probably coz they don't offer free wifi).

If we need to complain, free wifi was not very steady. Yet the hotel was proactive to solve the problem. We were on top floor and signal were weak. We couldn't get any signal and thought it might be password. They came straight to explain the top floor issues and told us they just bought some routers for us to plug in the room. Soon we could check mails and played our online games.

Another thing would be the disposable facial towels they use. We still prefer traditional fluffy towels rather than the paper thin disposable ones.

Note: the hotel is ver near to military training base. At mornings and evenings there are fighter jets coming in and out and could be noisy (but not too much into sleeping hrs) The hotel is equipped with double glass to shut out the noise if necessary. On the other hand, we found it soothing to hear the waves in our sleep.
