We spent two nights at Catamaran Beach Resort as part of a group tour. Rooms were spacious yet basic. Showers needed a good clean and wiring of lamps unsafe. On our first night we were given a room that had a problem with its plumbing resulting in a bad smell throughout the room. When returning two weeks later our next room appeared to have a small animal living in the bathroom drain - the drain cover was dislodged, when replaced (a number of times) it would dislodge again.
A friend had the unfortunate experience of being attacked by bedbugs on her first night which caused her significant discomfort for a large proportion of our trip.
As three of our group members had late night flights on our final day, our guide arranged with the manager for two rooms to have a late checkout. Upon confirming with (we assume) the manager the next morning he refused to acknowledge the arranged 2pm checkout.
When needing another night accommodation in Negombo we opted to stay at a small guesthouse with a lovely Sri Lankan family for a significant fraction of the price.
The security guard is a lovely, friendly man as was the lady and young man who worked on the front desk.
Overall the hotel was terribly overpriced for what it offered. More
