I stayed in Negombo for a long time (3 weeks) and chose Marina Inn following recommendations on TripAdvisor. I must say I am glad! For the price I was paying, I wasn't expecting a luxury hotel room facing sea, and yet MI is one of the best places I have lodged in. The location of the hotel is perfect. The beach is a 7min walk. There are a number of restaurants within 2min walk, and a 15min walk will take you to more restaurants and different souvenir stores. In spite of being so close to the main street, the hotel is calm and peaceful. The room was big with adequate furnishings to unpack, stock groceries and relax like in one's home. One can even use the hotel's washing machine for laundry free of charge! Dr. Habib and the staff are extremely helpful. Whenever I needed something or if anything went wrong, all I needed to do was ask. No matter what time of day or night, Dr. Habib made sure that his guests were comfortable. The breakfast is delicious, and can be enjoyed at the terrace with a view of the sea. The owner of the hotel Anselem has a tour desk right at the hotel where you can plan and book your tour at competitive rates. If you are lucky Anselem will himself take you to a tour. He is a very friendly, understanding and easy-to-be-with person.
The hotel is however not advisable for people with knee aches/inability to climb stairs, as the rooms are on first floor with some steep steps to climb (except the Family Apartment which is on ground floor). Some suggestions for the hotel management - bring variety in breakfast, it gets old after a week. Also start accepting credit cards for payment. It will be a huge help for people. All in all keep the good work going!
Out of deluxe rooms, choose room 27. It's cooler as it does not get direct sunlight. If you want...
