Frankly you might not like Jetwing Lagoon if you like to be based amongst the night-life and razzmatazz. However along this road less travelled I found the most fabulous hotel with excellent food, situated across the road from the beach is this lagoon front property and the breeze from November to March makes this ideal for the UK or EU traveller afraid of staying in unbearable heat. This hotel is immediately recognisable as being designed in 1965 (just refurbished) by national treasure Geoffrey Bawa (Deshamanya Geoffrey Manning Bawa 1919-2003, FRIBA was a Sri Lankan architect. He is the most renowned architect in Sri Lanka and was among the most influential Asian architects of his generation) and embraces the true Sri Lankan architecture often lost by star class hotels.
Having been an overnight visitor to most of the better hotels on this island I can wholeheartedly give this a thumbs up and we will be back very soon.
My wife & I travelled down a quiet well made tarmac road without potholes (if only all roads in Sri Lanka were like this) toward Jetwing Lagoon from Colombo, having turned off the main highway
about 10 or 12 miles before the hotel we saw deserted beach on one side and lagoon on the other.
As we pulled into at the side of reception (to attaned my bother-in-laws wedding) we got a typical Jetwing greeting (Jetwing seem just get right on each and every occasion) with cold towels and our bags taken to a golf buggy and we then set off down to our suite (definitely stay in 128 again) in this marvellous mode of transport to shift people and baggage.
We ordered room service who were slower than we would have liked but well worth the wait as we tucked into our mixture of local snacks, club sandwiches (Rs 450 = under £3) and king coconut drinks (Rs 190 = under £1).... the food was served on a dining table at the huge private balcony overlooking the lagoon and boy the warm breeze is so welcome.
Room was so huge we could accommodate 4 people with a private lounge, 2 bedrooms, one shower room and one bathroom. The only bathtub I ever used that was larger was Hugh Hefner's (Playboy) at Stocks which is no longer a country club and now a private residence so I don't know if Jetwing Lagoon has the biggest bath but what I do know is you can get all the jacuzzi bits working, turn off the lights and the underwater mood lighting takes over.
Food great, service even better, checkout seemed to get confused, so a bit longer than I would like, also an ecologist's dream with 100% LED lighting, Solar PV and Solar Thermal.
For about £20 we had a boat out on the lagoon with skipper but he did go too fast around the fish market area, messed up the prop on the outboard and we did have to get towed back... I might have liked to see some lifejackets and a ship to shore radio but why bother! We all got back safely.
Next time I'm going back to use the great looking spa and have another dip in that huge pool
Thanks to all at Jetwing Lagoon we went to a great function had a great stay and cannot wait to get back very soon.... beats the cold wet winter at home
Upgrade to a suite and get that lagoon breeze

Greetings from Jetwing Lagoon, and thank you for taking your valued time in writing such a wonderful comment about your experience at the resort on Trip Advisor.
It was a great pleasure to learn that you have truly marveled the architectural designs and restorations of the resort. This was the first purpose built hotel in the western coast of Sri Lanka dating back indeed to 1965 when the country was called Ceylon.
We were also delighted to read that you and your wife enjoyed the food, facilities and the services provided by our associates. Have noted down your comments on the room service and check out, and thank you for pointing these out as it will help us immensely to fine tune such areas for much better delivery in the future.
We very much look forward to welcoming you back to Jetwing Lagoon and provide you with the hospitality for which Jetwing is renowned for.
Thank you agin for your very nice comments.
