“Best breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Serendib is in a calm residential area 5-10 minute walk back from Negombo beach and a short drive from Negombo town. Hilary and Buddika were very kind and welcoming. We had an AC room at the back of the property which was spotless, quiet and comfortable - just a tiny suggestion that perhaps it would be useful to have somewhere to hang things (towels, even). It was all very relaxed and we made good use of the garden and swimming pool area. Like other reviewers we had a little difficulty finding the guesthouse but the google maps location is pretty accurate (...just try explaining that to your tuktuk driver!). We also agree that the breakfast was WONDERFUL! So tasty and filling, a full Scottish breakfast with a Sri Lankan twist ;)

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Having flown in to Colombo from the UK we were met by Indika, the driver who works for Hilary and Buddika, and taken to their wonderful Guest House, about half an hour's drive away., As we had been flying all night it was great that our room was ready ( at 9 am ) and we were able to have some sleep before getting our bearings and acclimatising. We spent four nights in total at Serendib - two at the beginning and two at the end of our month in Sri Lanka and we wish we had stayed with them longer. The room was very spacious and nicely furnished with air con and ceiling fan. The bathroom was lovely. The breakfast was truly the best we have had in a Sri Lankan guest house- a mixture of Sri Lankan and western - freshly prepared mango juice, bacon, sausage, eggs and Buddika's signiature dish -spicy potatoes ,This was followed by a big plate of fresh fruit, but we were too full to eat it all, so they suggested we put it in their fridge for later! Guests can make tea and coffee in their kitchen at any time and fresh cold water was always available. We were shown how to find the main beach road, where all the restaurants and bars are located - the nearest being about 10 minutes walk, or they will order a TukTuk for you - good if it is raining and certainly good for the return later in the evening! We spent a whole day sight-seeing in the Negombo area - well worth a visit, especially the Fish Market and had another day visiting Negombo Town on our return, But we also liked relaxing around the lovely swimming pool and sharing experiences with other guests. There are only four rooms so it is always friendly!
We had arranged with Buddika to have their car and driver for 6 days to visit the Cultural Triangle, so that was the next part of our holiday, based in Sigiriya.

We stayed here just two nights ago and it was amazing! Picked up from the airport at 1am and Buddika was there to greet us when we arrived at the guesthouse. Had a room with air con, which was a lifesaver as it was really hot! Large, clean, room with everything you need. Great bathroom too, with hot water! Had an amazing breakfast, coffee was great too, overlooking the pool - perfect for a midday swim. Staff and Hilary were extremely friendly, couldn't have wished for better. Will definitely be staying here if I ever return to Negombo, wish we could have stayed longer than two nights. (Also miss the two cute dogs - Clio and fergus!).

Hilary (currently disabled after hip operation) and Buddika were the very best hosts and I have traveled millions of miles and stayed in many places in my years. I cannot rate the service more highly....I was made to feel so very welcome, like a VIP!! I really relaxed in this place...a very comfy Guest House and one of the best (at any price) that I have ever stayed in. This is not the Hilton, but in terms of customer service it is better than most 5-star I have stayed in over the years. Rooms large, clean and comfy. It is worth paying the little bit extra for air conditioning, as it gets very hot here during the day.
I found this place to be 'magical' and excellent value for money. I most certainly will come back and recommend to any traveler.
Of special note was the driver 'Yohan' who is an excellent driver...very shy but very good and the airport/other transfers are well worth the little bit extra for this 'air conditioned' luxury. Yohan and Buddika are also excellent bike riders/drivers and I took advantage of that. They even provided me with a crash helmet for a bike tour....wonderful!
I stayed as a guest for 10 days here and all I can say in praise is that I arrived as a guest and I left as a long-term friend of Hilary and Buddika. What higher rating can an experienced traveler give to a place?
A real place to 'chill-out' and relax with all its' facilities for an educated traveler!! Full Stop!!
Highly recommended. Just ask for what you want and they will do their best to provide. I was sad to leave. (and I miss the 2 friendly dogs, Clio and Fergus, too).

Arriving at 4am they arranged an efficient pickup at a good price. It's only twenty minutes from the airport so much better than an airport hotel.

The guesthouse is very homely and the rooms are large, clean and nicely decorated. The outside area is great for relaxing and it's only 5 mins walk to restaurants and the beach. There is a bonus of a small pool.

Breakfast is hearty and buddika also makes a great afternoon tea. The owner is happy to provide advice on places to visit and will introduce you to local drivers if you need them. We decided to stay again at the end of our trip for some sleep before the flight - it was as good the second time.

Thanks for having us!

Our driver had booked us into Serendib for our first night in Sri Lanka. Having never stayed in a guesthouse before we did not really know what to expect. The owner is extremely welcoming and friendly with great staff in support.
Our room was good, maybe needing a few minor repairs, but had everything you needed. It did have the noisiest fan I have ever heard.
The breakfast was amazing, if not the best we have had in Sri Lanka. The curried potatoes...yum!
I would stay again and recommend to anyone.

We flew into Colombo with two of our party suffering from food poisoning from bad food at a big brand coffee outlet in Delhi airport. The Guest house owner and her staff were extremely helpful, assisting us in getting medical attention and ensuring we had everything we needed and attending to our comfort. They were also able to accommodate us for another day while we recovered enough to be able to travel on. Rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable, and the area outside is very comfortable providing both shade and a pool. A very relaxing and comfortable 'family home' atmosphere that has the bonus of being close to the airport (great for people like us who flew in late at night) and close (easy walking distance) to the beach and the shopping strip with restaurants. Highly recommended.
