We stayed at this hotel for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Our bedroom was spacious with mosquito netting and air con. The bathroom was enormous and all was kept clean and tidy. The grounds are fantastic with the sight and sound of the Indian Ocean just a few yards away. The food is of a high quality and if you compare it to UK prices, it is not expensive. We and others tried a few alternative restaurants in the area and none of them came up to the quality of the hotel despite in some cases being about the same cost.
Swimming in the very inviting sea is not really possible due to the strong under currents and coral, but we managed to sit on the beach and let the waves break over us. However, the hotel pool is great and almost makes up for the problems swimming in the sea.
What really set this hotel apart from others we stayed in during our 16 days in Sri Lanka, was the staff and management - they could not have been more helpful. We were staying here in order to go to the 1st test match in Galle. However, we only had tickets for the first day. Having told the manager of our position he volunteered to go to the cricket ground first thing each morning to buy the tickets for us and others. Not only that he got them for the part of the ground we preferred. We just turned up at the ground in the morning and he handed over the tickets. He also arranged for us to be taken and picked up from the ground by the hotel's own people carrier.
On another occasion we were booked through our tour company to be taken to a whale watching trip at Mirissa at 6.30 am. The driver from the tour company failed to turn up and our trip was in jeopardy. One of the waiters at the hotel who was up early to provide us with breakfast realised we had a problem, phoned the hotel manager who told him to phone their driver and get him out of bed to get us to Mirissa for the trip. The driver duly turned up and got us to the harbour just in time. He then turned up when we came back from the trip and took us back to the hotel.
Totally recommended and we will be going back!
