“Nice place for lunch in Galle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

We were in one of the coach groups mentioned in previous reviews - 12 of us so not a large group. We were really impressed by the friendliness and speed of service and the pleasant food. Admittedly we didn't have any of those things in the restaurant in our hotel in Weligama so it was a nice surprise to find them for the first time in Sri Lanka. There are no doubt lots of other places for Westerners to eat in Galle but I don't think you will go wrong if you visit this restaurant.

Located adjacent to Galle Fort ramparts with in the evening sea views from the large upstairs terrace. Food reasonable quality & good value for money

“Typical tour bus place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

This place is probably on the "approved list" of places guides are supposed to take tourists. It is quite large upstairs seating and packed for lunch. Service was almost non-existent and the food no better than the couple other tourist approved highway stops we made on our way around SL. If you are in Galle for a few days, there are so many other better choices.

“A glass of wine at sunset”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

A bit big, many groups, food is typical without being excellent.
But the view, especially at sunset, is fantastic! And you can share a glass of wine, rare in cheaper places in Galle Fort. Most places do not serve alcohol. Kins service. Try fried cashew nuts, as a meal with rice, or to the aperitif;

“Worth a visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

We ate here 3 times during the stay.
The venue is delightful. A colonial era resto.
The staff are friendly with only the occaisional SL idiosyncracy to spoil the visit.
Food was good value & tasty.
Lunchtime was busy with coachloads of tourists. Avoid!
Dinnertimes were great. Leisurely & pleasant.
Mains are R800 to 1000.
Icy cold beers from R375.
Try the wattalapan for dessert.
TOP TIP: Long trousers & socks in the evening to keep mozzies at bay.
Get there before 1300 for lunch to beat the hordes of packaged holiday makers.
