“A peaceful retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

This was a highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. The night we arrived the setting was magical. There was an incredible banquet of delicious food prepared in advance and we were seated at a candlelit table on the lawn. Many of our group had arrived from Europe that day so they were immediately transported into the magic of this country. The rooms were spacious, very comfortable and the bathrooms open to the outdoors. It felt a long way from the hustle and bustle of the busy areas of Bentota but close enough to go to lunch or the beach or shop. The staff, particularly Ben, were extremely helpful, accommodating and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. It's just small enough to feel like your the only ones there.

We visited Nisala Arana a while back and I had to come back to TA ans write a review.

Food - excellent. Dont miss the arrack sours
Property - beautiful
Hosts - great and always ready to help

They have a few activities worth looking at too. We did the waterfall excursion and it was lovely.

They had a special new years eve dinner with local performers and fireworks - again a great experience.

Dont miss Nisala Arana - you wont regret it!

If only we had known about Nisala Arana earlier we would have stayed longer. One night was not enough. We had been touring Sri Lanka on a motor bike for 3 weeks & this was at the end of our trip & what a treat it was. When I booked Ben assured me I would love our room & wouldn't be disappointed. The only part that disappointed me was we only had time to spend 1 night here.
From the moment the gates opened I could tell I was in Paradise. The grounds are beautiful & to be greeted with a cool drink & chilled towels was absolute bliss. Ben was right, we were not disappointed in our room. It was beautiful, romantic & totally relaxing. I want an outside bathroom at home! Ben, Mella, Kevin & Jill were wonderful hosts & made us feel so welcome. We decided to have dinner at Nisala Arana, as once you have entered those gates you really don't want to leave. The food was wonderful & the service was excellent & with a smile.
A great place for a wedding or honeymoon. Nisala Arana is just paradise! Well done Kevin & Jill for establishing a wonderful home & boutique hotel. More Aussies need to come & stay. Once they have been once they will return time & time again. Next time we'll be there for more than 1 night! Thanks for making us feel so welcome. We're still talking about you all & we've been home 5 weeks!

Room Tip: All rooms are beautifully decorated, but we loved ours with the outside bathroom.

My husband and I were lucky enough to spend 2 nights at Nisala Arana at the end of our backpacking/surfing trip of Sri Lanka. We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, friendly and lovely spot to stop in the area. We ate at the hotel both nights and are very glad we did- the food and service could not have been better. A really lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: Coconut room has beautiful outdoor bathroom

Although it is about 10 minutes from town, if you want to chill out and relax this is the place to go. It has lovely gardens and the service and food are both excellent. The Doctor's house is gorgeous and if I was going back that is where I would stay. This is a perfect location for a small group ( up to 12) and would be great to get married in.
There were a couple of dogs ,which we loved and the owners Kevin and Jill and their friends made us feel really welcome and not like paying guests at all.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the ground floor

I'd just like to say what a wonderful little treasure this place is. Situated in a small village inland about 2km from Bentota coast. A Great team of very friendly staff including Tony & Senna who will look after every request .Delicious simple food served in the open air dining pavillion. Its like staying at a friends house complete with family doggies. Many thanks to Ben & the team for a memorable time , we will definately be back.

Room Tip: Go if you want complete peace & relaxation.
