“A DREAM!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2011

After a great and interesting roundtrip we spent 5 days in Saman Villas ... we just had a perfect and fantastic time! Beautiful room, amazing bathroom, sensationel terrasse and more than delicious food. Every morning we enjoyed Sri Lankan breakfast, got a cooing documentary and had brillant hours at the pool. A big thank you to the friendly staff. Especially to the front office manager's mother in colombo. We left our luggage in her appartment to explore the city before leaving this wonderful country.
We just can quote: "Where paradise has no compromise!" That's so true! THANK YOU

One of the best hotels for relaxation and good service we have ever experienced. From our arrival to our departure, the staff were efficient, professional and friendly at all times and a credit to the hotel. The food was without doubt outstanding and the presentation of the dishes was equal to any 5 star restaurant we have ever dined in. The restaurant staff in particular deserve credit for their attentive but discreet service as does the restaurant manager who made a point of speaking to every guest during meals, offering alternatives to the menu if required, something which we never had a problem with due to the great variety of choices offered. The rooms were extremely clean, well appointed and very well serviced by the room staff twice daily. A nice touch was the flowers and small animals made from palm leaves left every day on our bed. We also loved the outside bath and shower. The complimentary tea and coffee served once a day to our balcony was also a welcome touch (the petit fours were to die for). We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel which we thought was suited more to couples although there were families in the hotel during our stay who appeared to be well catered for. With its great location, excellent service and lovely cliff/beach setting, Saman is without doubt the place to stay in Bentota.

Room Tip: Room 12 has excellent view of the ocean and sunset.

We stayed there for 2 nights to end up 3 weeks of holidays in Sri Lanka, and this was a fantastic experience! The staff was fantastic, food was good and varied, the daily dinner menu is a great idea,a s can imagine that if you stay for a week, you pretty much have gone around the normal menu. The hotel itself is in a fantastic location, the view from the swimming pools (whether private or the main one) are great.

Fully recommend, cannot see any negatives! (and if you can find one, we've not been at the same place...)

We spent nine nights staying at Saman Villas in October 2011.

We arrived at Saman Villas feeling quite tired from touring around Kandy, and the cultural triangle area.

Saman Villas was simply the most relaxing experience.

The hotel is small (27 rooms), with a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. The hotel is beautifully located on a headland with quiet beaches both to the north and south of the hotel. The sea was a little too rough for swimming during our stay, but it was lovely to walk on the beach, and to visit a turtle hatchery on the beach.

The hotel staff and management do everything they can to ensure that their guests' time at Saman Villas is all that it should be. The staff members are friendly, and very professional. We were particularly grateful for the kind efforts made by the food and beverage manager Dayanath, and his team of expert chefs, to cater for our dietary preferences. We even enjoyed a cookery demonstration where we learned how to cook authentic Sri Lankan curries. We have taken the recipes home, and will soon try to recreate the dishes! All in all, the food was delicious, especially the Sri Lankan breakfasts, which are available as well as continental and American breakfasts.

Our villa, with private pool, and both indoor and outdoor bathrooms, was fabulous. The room staff serviced our villa twice a day and made sure that everything was perfect within. It was simply blissful to lounge in our private pool. We really recommend that you book the villa (room 5), as it is so comfortable.

The therapists at the Sahana spa are great, and really very well trained. Ask for Samudra, as she is a wonderful therapist, with a truly relaxing manner.

There is also a small but well stocked library at Saman Villas, where you can borrow books and DVDs. The library has a decent selection of Sri Lankan architecture, archaeology, history, and natural history books.

If you get a chance, we recommend a visit to Lunuganga (about five miles from the hotel). Lunuganga is the home of the late Geoffrey Bawa, and the house and gardens are really lovely, and well worth seeing. Ask for Charlie (Saliya) the tuk-tuk driver, as he is very reliable, charges a fair price, and is a very entertaining and decent chap. Galle is also within easy distance, and the old fort is well worth a visit.

Saman Villas is a truly special experience, and we look forward to our next stay there.

Room Tip: Room 5 - the villa

My wife and I have recently returned from 2 weeks in Sri Lanka, the first week relaxing in Tea Country the second week at Saman Villas. Our time at Saman Villas was that of complete relaxation. The spa employes experienced personnel who, importantly we beleive, were born in Sri Lanka. Our villa, with it's own pool, was spacious, clean and was furnished with modern, quality fittings. The view from our villa was first class, waking every morning to the sights and sounds of the waves rolling in from the Indian Ocean onto a long expance of beach, borded with king coconut trees, the Toddy-Tapper ropes clearly visible. From our villa, we could see turtles returning to sea from the Turtle Sancurary close by. After breakfast served with a genuinne smile, a quick dip in our own pool was called for...late afternoon dips in our own pool were accompanied with a cold beer and glass of wine. One of the highlights of a stay at Saman Villas is that you truly can dine wherever you wish...whether it be in the garden of your own villa, by the beautiful hotel swimming pool, on the beach or on the rocks! Our last evening was a truly memerable experience. Having spoken with the extremely accomodating hotel staff they did arrange for my wife and I to dine on the rocks with the waves almost lapping at our feet. As the Sun began to set over the western sky, cocktails were served as we lay in our own gazebo. After the sun had disappeared behind the horizon, our waiter invited us to our table, down a set of steps and across the rocks where our table had been placed on a wooden platform. Lanterns were lit and placed in a dozen places around the rocks. (The table settings and surroundings were worthy of a photo). We were served a truly delicious five course meal, the set menu was really a flexible menu and we were able to tailor our menu to suit our dietary needs...one of the finest meals we have ever had! During the meal, our waiter stood a respectful distance away, however, appeared during every course to take several photos. During our main course, our waiter introduced a local musician in traditional dress, who again at a discreet distance, sat perched on a rock by the waters edge playing a flute...traditional Sri Lankan flute accompanied with the Indian Ocean as a back drop...truly Majical!! All the staff and of course the Chef, who visited our table at the end of our evening meal, are to be commended...One of the most genuine and friendliest hotels that we have ever stayed in! Well done to all the staff. Hope to see you all again. Matt & Jayne T

Room Tip: Go the extra mile and book a villa room with it's own pool, preferably as close to the main pool...

WOW is just one of the words I would use to describe this hotel and staff. 10 out of 10.

We stayed at Saman Villas for 4 nights and this was not long enough. This is the most wonderful hotel. After spending 3 nights down-the-road at the Vivanta by Taj (which I must add was NOT a nice hotel), it was like a BREATH OF FRESH AIR to arrive at Saman Villas.

From the moment we arrived the staff and management could not do enough for us, we check into a lovely room which looked directly over the beautiful gardens and out to sea. This hotel is absolute paradise. We woke each day to the sound of the ocean.

The rooms are spacious and beautiful, each with a large balcony/veranda, which has been designed perfectly so that each one is private. The bathrooms are fabulous with a huge bath and shower which are semi-outdoor. When the sun when down, there was nothing better than lying in the bath, listening to the ocean and sipping a nice cold drink! Heaven.

This hotel is a perfect size, large enough so you feel most days like you are the only couple there and small enough that each member of staff knows you by name and welcomes you each day with a beautiful Sinhalese smile. A truly romantic hotel.

The pool is a luxury infinity looking over the sea and I must add even better in real life than the photos!

I would like to add an extra special thanks to Imran and his wonderful staff who made our holiday unforgettable. They are Gamage, Krishantha, Irisha, Derrick, Shiva, Sanjaya, Suresh, Rajitha, Silver and Dammi.

We've just returned from our honeymoon at Saman Villas and it was incredible. The hotel is beautiful with gorgeous rooms and amazing views. The staff are friendly and attentive, nothing is too much trouble! The food was delicious and the pool is amazing! The Spa is excellent and I would highly reccommend the couples spa treatment it was incredible and really good value! We had a Deluxe Suite with a pool. Having our own private pool was great we took many midnight dips after dinner.

We had a problem with our booking as the room description on Agooda was incorrect. Agooda describe the Deluxe Suite with Pool but they actual book the Deluxe Suite without one! However, both Agooda and Saman Villas were excellent at dealing with the problem and Saman Villas agreed to honour our booking, which was a big relief.

There are plenty of Tuk Tuk drivers outside the hotel when you want to go into the resort. Some are a bit pushy but we found Jana to be excellent.

The hotel is perfect for couples and honeymooners and we enjoyed the resort of Bentota as it wasn't at all touristy. If you're looking for a quiet relaxing holiday than this is the perfect place.

Room Tip: Book a room with a private pool it's worth it!
