“Good boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

This is a rather small hotel with 34 rooms only.
Rooms are very spacious, modern & comfortable.
Breakfast spread is sufficient.

On the negative side, dinner selection is rather limited and expensive, so a ride to town is needed, and the aircon in my room was a bit noisy.

The hotel room was quite comfortable, but the location of the hotel and the amenities warrant consideration if you are looking for a hotel in Gyeongju. My wife insisted that I note that she would give this hotel a 5 star rating based on the level of service and comfort of the room, but as I explain below, the location and access to amenities makes this a sub-five star rating in my book. The hotel is located in the lake area with most of the high-end resorts – a $12 taxi ride from the bus station in town. The room was very spacious and comfortable, but in order to use the fitness center or sauna, you needed to leave the hotel and walk a little less than .5 mile to another building complex – the Dream Center. Note: the pool is closed during the off-season, so do not expect to use it as they completely drain it. The fitness center and the sauna were adequately equipped, and because there were very few guests staying at the hotel, my wife and I had the facilities completely to ourselves in the evening.

The biggest detractor for this hotel is the location. The hotel does not have a convenient store within the complex and it only has one over-priced restaurant serving western-style food (we spent 3 nights there and didn’t eat at the restaurant once, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food – also, we did not see anyone else eating there either in the evening). There is a bus stop located outside the main hotel where the #10 bus will drop you off, but if you wanted to get on a bus headed for town, you needed to walk a little more than ¼ mile.

It was very easy to get back and forth from town if you are willing to walk to the bus stop and wait for the bus, and the bus only costs $1.50 (1,500 Won) per trip. The #11 and #700 buses will get you into town – the #10 gets you back from town. The nearest convenience store is about 1 mile away in the direction of the Hyundai Hotel – about .5 mile beyond it on the main road.

If you catch the #11 or #700 bus headed into town, and just get off at the 2 stop in that direction, you will find a cluster of restaurants that will give you a variety of choices without the need to travel all the way into town. See my other postings for more Gyeongju reviews.

Bottom line is that the Suites Hotel had excellent customer service and more than adequate accommodations. The breakfasts were large, but not all that noteworthy. If you want to be able to grab something quick to eat at the hotel or be more conveniently located to a store or more restaurants, I would actually recommend staying at the Hyundai Hotel or the Daemyung Resort (one past the Hyundai that actually has a few restaurants and a large Starbucks located in the lobby) if you can get either of those hotels at a comparable price.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your comment on our hotel!

As you explained, our hotel has great facilities and services but we have lack of convenient shops near by. To overcome this disadvantages, we're planning to open our mini convenient shop located front desk and we already have convenient shop in linked building Dream Center.
I really hope you have nice meal on our restaurant next time as we're running special promotion from western to traditional with nice brunch menu.

Thank you,

Warm Regards,

We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel recently. The hotel is well located, clean and well looked after. We stayed in the deluxe room which was very spacious and had a lovely bathroom with a massive tub. The room has a Korea/Japanese feel which adds to the character of the property -rather like a boutique hotel. Buffet breakfast was not available likely due to low occupancy, but they offered a choice of a la carte American or Korean breakfast which worked out fine. Most staff have very limited English but are nevertheless eager to help. We would especially highlight Miss J.E. Kim at the front desk who is their "English language expert". She communicated very well in English and was extremely courteous and helpful. She doubled up as the concierge as well due to her command of English. She is very hardworking, attentive and went out of her way to organise a city tour for us at very late notice. She is truly an asset to the hotel.

Dear Sir,

I appreciate your comment on our hotel and associates!

As you mentioned, we're having newest facilities in this area and our staffs always eager to assist our guests in any case. Even if some associates are limited in foreign languages, our warm endeavor can make our guests feel special and comfortable. I already recognized our precious asset Ms. JE Kim for her great approach to you.

We keep developing our service quality regarding F&B varieties and convenient shops. Hopely see you soon in this memorable historical kingdom again.

Warm Regards,

We booked a round trip in the south-eastern part of Korea and found the Suites Hotel in Gyeong-ju excellent and far beyond our expectations.
Rooms were spacious with excellent bathrooms.
Service was great: very attentive and always helpful.
The hotel mainly serves the attached conference center, which was not booked at the time of our stay. Due to the low booking rate the buffet style breakfast was not available, but the restaurant covered all our needs indiviually which I prefer anyway.
The hotel is only a short walk from the lake shore and a short drive from all the attractions Gyeong-ju has to offer as the former capital of the kingdom of Korea.

This certainly is a lovely hotel and the room lovely, huge bathroom, lovely shower, large comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. It is within walking distance of a lake and bars and restaurants. when we were there there were very few guests so sadly no atmosphere. Also the staff did not speak very good English and it took us a while to get a bottle of wine on my husbands birthday. Also due to lack of guests we were 'hovered' over during breakfast, a little embarassing.

Dear Ms. Fiona,

This is Taesung Huh, General Manager of Suites Hotel Gyeongju.
First of all, I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to you for staying our hotel.

As you mentioned, we have state of the art facilities and we also keep improving them throughout our guests' comments and suggestions.

Due to lack of surroudings, we're developing new F&B menu and various selections such as salad buffet in weekends but we still need to develop more and more. New botanical garden and birds' park are going to open soon near by and you can enjoy better surroundings on next visit.

Our staffs are struggling to improve their language skill and investing their valuable extra time on this. Hotel is supporting all our efforts for this as well.

Once again, I sincerely appreciate your valuable comments. We're considering all guests' comment as our most valuable assets.

Thank you,

Warm Regards,

Taesung Huh

Quiet and nice location
Friendly and efficient staff
Limited menu at the restaurant - but high quality of the available food
Fair vine selection
Several golf courses right next door
Minus: Long distance to other restaurants, coffee-shops etc

I was traveling alone and found this hotel a fantastic getaway. Unlike regular hotels where there are lots of people, this hotel was fully booked but its coumpound remains serene with breathtaking greens around it. Love the bathroom- especially the bathtub and the glass wall.

Take a taxi to the hotel, it's tugged away from the main road on the right if you come from the Gyeongju train station.
